Hermès Triumphs Over Luxury Market Struggles: Unveiling the Secret to Surging US Sales

In a rapidly shifting luxury retail landscape, renowned players such as Kering and LVMH are finding it increasingly challenging to retain the interest of elite and aspirational customers alike. However, amid this tumultuous environment, luxury goods company Hermès has managed to find sustained success.

    Impressive Revenue Growth

Hermès recently reported remarkable growth in its fourth-quarter revenue. This surge was largely attributed to robust sales in the United States and Asia. The company announced that their product sales, including iconic items such as Birkin and Kelly bags, silk scarves, and perfumes, saw growth of 9.8 per cent in currency-adjusted terms for the fourth quarter. This increase surpassed the predicted growth rate of 8.4 per cent.

The sales growth was mainly driven by the Americas, particularly the United States, where sales escalated by 12.1 per cent, outperforming the anticipated growth of around 9 per cent. Sales in Asia also demonstrated robust growth of 8 per cent, excluding Japan.

The company’s full-year operating profit amounted to €6.57 billion (US$7.79 billion), with a profit margin of 41 per cent, slightly above the predicted 40 per cent margin.

    Continuous Expansion

Over the last three years, Hermès has witnessed a steady growth in annual sales by about 38 per cent, and its shares have also risen by 36 per cent. This growth has been achieved in spite of the ongoing challenges confronting the broader luxury retail industry.

Hermès CEO, Axel Dumas, expressed confidence in the brand’s prospects. He announced that the company plans for price increases of around 5-6 per cent for the coming year, a decrease from the previous year’s hike of 6-7 per cent.

    Key to Success

The company’s success has been credited to two main factors. Firstly, the consistent buying habits of its ultra-wealthy clientele, and secondly, Hermès’ persistent emphasis on brand storytelling.

Moreover, the company’s strategic expansion plans, including the opening of new stores such as the latest one in Nashville, Tennessee, opened in October 2025, have further contributed to its success. It is also worth mentioning that Hermès recently acquired a high-priced real estate property in Beverly Hills for a future store, marking the most expensive real estate acquisition in the area since the early 2000s.

    Brand Identity and Steadfastness

Hermès’ emphasis on desirability and exclusivity has also been pivotal to its success. Unlike its competitors, Hermès has maintained a laser-focus on its offerings, clientele, and creating an unparalleled luxury experience.

The brand’s commitment to exclusivity has enabled it to retain its competitive edge in the struggling luxury market. Its strategy of creating a sense of rarity and allure around its top-tier items, such as the iconic Birkin bag, has offered a unique shopping experience for its affluent customers.

  • Elon Musk Shares Secret About CyberTruck Mirrors

Elon Musk Shares Secret About CyberTruck Mirrors

When the CyberTruck was unveiled for the first time in 2019 it had these cameras which doubled as side-view mirrors. But at the time many believed that the regulators aren’t going to allow Tesla to pull off this stunt. So more recently, the car was indeed seen with mirrors. But these mirrors ruin the seamless symmetry and the cyberpunk futurism of the car. Now, in a tweet, Elon Musk has revealed that the mirror is required by the law but they have been designed in such a way that they can be removed easily by the owners.

The side-view mirrors are a requirement of the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard referred to as Rear Visibility. The side mirrors assure that the driver has a good view of obstacles around the sides and the rear of the truck.

Tesla strived to remove the mirrors altogether as modern cars also come with blindspot detection cameras as well as rearview cameras which help in reversing. Tesla has always future-proofed its cars with advanced hardware and constant software updates and if and when the regulation is changed Tesla has added the ability for its owners to remove the mirror as the cameras are already baked in.

Tesla’s vehicles also come with advanced autonomous capability and the Cybertruck will be the first car it releases that will come with a new generation of self-driving chips and cameras. In other words, these cars by the time they come out in 2022 will have the latest hardware and software and an old-school solution like side-view mirrors will be hugely redundant.

  • Victoria’s Secret’s canceled annual fashion show

Victoria’s Secret’s canceled annual fashion show

Victoria’s Secret’s annual fashion show, where supermodels once walked down the runway wearing giant “angel” wings and elaborate lingerie sets, will not occur this holiday season.

Stuart Burgdoerfer, CFO of the brand’s parent company L Brands, said on a call with investors on Thursday that Victoria’s Secret would be communicating with customers through social media and other platforms, but that it wouldn’t be “similar in magnitude to the fashion show”, which had been broadcast on network television in the US since 2001.

“We think it’s important to evolve the marketing of Victoria’s Secret,” Burgdoerfer said.

The news ends several months of speculation about the future of the fashion show after Victoria’s Secret said in May that show would not be part of network television this year, leaving open the possibility that it would be live-streamed online instead.

But the show has been drawing a smaller audience for some time, as the brand’s “sexy” image has fallen out of favor with younger consumers and fashion trends have shifted towards bralettes and other less-padded styles.

The fashion show was watched by 3.3 million Americans in 2018, compared with 12 million in 2001 when it was the first broadcast.

The company also suffered a backlash last year when then-CMO Ed Razek told Vogue that the show wouldn’t have transgender models.

L Brands posted a US$151.2 million operating loss in Q3 2019 on Thursday, which includes a US$284.7 million non-cash impairment charge related to Victoria’s Secret store and other assets, and a US$37.2 million charge to increase reserves related to ongoing guarantees for the La Senza business, which it sold in Q4 2018.

Excluding these charges, its adjusted Q3 operating income was US$96.3 million and its adjusted net income was US$5.7 million.

The retailer reported net sales of US$2.7 billion for the 13 weeks ended November 2, 2019, compared to US$2.8 billion for the prior corresponding period. Comparable sales were down 2 per cent in Q3 2019.

The company is expecting a strong Q4, according to Reuters, and said its full-year adjusted earnings per share would be US$2.40, in line with its full-year guidance of between US$2.30 and US$2.60.

Secrets Improving on its Online Ecommerce Offering

Australian jewellery retailer Secrets is gearing up for international expansion online, with New Zealand slated to be its next major market.

Customers in New Zealand can currently order from the Australian Secrets website, and while details are scarce, the retailer said in a statement that it will be launching a New Zealand website mid-year to better cater to the market.

The business currently has 16 stores across Australia, as well as an online portal.

It sells man-made diamond alternatives known as a diamond simulant, which are made in laboratories from natural mineral base zirconium oxide. According to Secrets, they possess all the optical qualities of fine quality diamonds – being visibly whiter and brighter than most middle-market stones.

“Our stones exhibit all the fire, brilliance and scintillation of the rarest diamonds unearthed, which is why women worldwide love the Secrets brand,” Secrets chief executive Mike Parsell said.

“We believe we offer the world a better beautiful.”

This also means the products are more environmentally-friendly than mining for natural diamonds, Parsell points out.

“We do not displace tonnes and tonnes of earth to find a single one-carat diamond. Our stones are conflict-free.”
