    Google Docs, Slides and Sheets apps get new formatting sidebar on Android tablets

    Google’s three apps that make writing and editing text such a breeze even on mobile devices, Docs, Slides and Sheets, have been updated earlier this week with a bunch of improvements to their comments system.

    Over the weekend, the search giant confirmed that another important update is making its way to Android users. All three apps, Docs, Slides and Sheets, are getting a new formatting sidebar that reduces the number of taps needed to navigate to formatting options.

    Basically, you’ll be able to arrange text, tables, images and more, much easier than before. The new formatting sidebar will be rolled out to Android tablets at the beginning of the next month, Google announced in a blog post.

    According to the Mountain View company, the update will be released to Scheduled Release domains on March 6, while users enrolled in the Rapid Release domains should already be able to take advantage of the new formatting sidebar on their Android tablets.

    It’s important to add that the new feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. So, just about everyone who uses Google’s Docs, Slides, and Sheets apps.

    In related news, Google announced that its Slides apps is getting another new feature that will allow users to easily drag and drop an image to replace the background in the app.

    Google updates Docs, Sheets, and Slides

    A new look and feel are now available for Google’s Docs, Sheets and Slides app, the Mountain View company announced. Unfortunately, if you were expecting any new features or improvements, you’ll be disappointed. Google confirmed that there are no functionality changes whatsoever in this update, so the only things we’ll get are the visual improvements.

    The visual improvements mentioned by Google include a restyled document list, highly-legible typefaces, consistent controls, and updated icons all over the place. Google also announced that the redesign has already made its way to the latest versions of Docs and Slides for Android.

    On the other hand, the new design will roll out to Sheets on Android sometime today, so expect the new visual improvements to pop up very soon. The most recent Docs, Sheets and Slides Material redesign update is part of a larger effort to bring consistency to the look and feel of Google’s G Suite apps.

    Although these updates are now being rolled out globally to all Android devices, it will take up to two weeks to appear for everyone, so be patient if the changes aren’t yet available for you.

    Dropbox has just announced it has teamed up with Google Cloud to integrate Docs, Sheets, and Slides into its system. The highly-anticipated new feature will be available as a beta for Dropbox Business users starting April 9 and is meant to allow users to create, edit, and store Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides in Dropbox.

    If you’re a Dropbox Business users, you must sign in to both your Google and Dropbox accounts so that you can create and store Docs, Sheets, and Slides files in any Dropbox folder. But the new feature doesn’t stop here, as you’ll be able to share individual files, manage access to your files and get feedback at the same time.

    Of course, sharing and co-editing is done in real-time, while adding Docs, Sheets, or Slides files to a shared Dropbox folder will automatically grant member access, which means you won’t have to leave Dropbox.

    Keep in mind that since the new feature is still in beta, you’ll have to opt-in by visiting Dropbox’s sign-up page. Once you activate it, you will be able to create Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files, as well as browse, move, copy and delete them from the iOS and Android apps.

    The Hard Rock at Home collaboration is intended to give music fans around the globe the opportunity to fine-tune their living spaces with home goods inspired by music – including bedding, bath textiles, window treatments and beach towels.

    The Hard Rock at Home collection features luxurious bedding, including comforters, sheet sets, throws and decorative accent pillows with a variety of designs. Through the collection, fans can add country, rock and alternative music touches, as well as hip hop trends and pop accents.

    “We are excited to collaborate with Sobel Westex to bring these trendy bedding, bath and beach products to consumers worldwide,” said director of licensing for Hard Rock International Mark Linduski. “This fresh, unique collection of musically-inspired, designer textiles will appeal to customers of virtually every age range, music genre and lifestyle while aiding in our strategic initiative to expand retail distribution of the Hard Rock brand outside of our own retail properties.”

    The designer textile collection will debut at the New York City Spring Textile Market from March 18 through March 21, before launching to consumers this autumn.
