ShopBack users can now enjoy extra savings on all GrabFood orders

GrabFood has officially launched on ShopBack, enabling 1.5 million ShopBack users in Singapore to enjoy cashback on their GrabFood orders. Users can now save a little extra when they are placing a food delivery order from their favorite F&B outlets, including McDonalds, Playmade, and Din Tai Fung.

    • New GrabFood customers will get 8% cashback (capped at $1.50)

    • Existing GrabFood customers will get 2% cashback (capped at $0.40)

To access these rewards, users have to first launch the ShopBack app, then type in “GrabFood” in the search bar or click on “GrabFood” under the New Stores on ShopBack section. This will redirect the user from the ShopBack app to the GrabFood app, allowing for the cashback to be tracked. The user should have the latest version of Grab installed.

“We are thrilled to add GrabFood to our growing line-up of merchants. The pandemic has resulted in many preferring to consume their meals from the safety of home, and this partnership will help to facilitate the shift in consumer behavior from restaurant dine-in to pick up, takeaway, and delivery. We have also received many requests from our users to on-board GrabFood, and today, we are happy to be able to make this a reality and bring even more cashback options for our users,” said Joel Leong, Co-founder of ShopBack.

A recent report by Facebook and Bain & Company found that there has been a shift to value-for-money purchasing across Southeast Asia as conservatism sets in, as 57% of survey respondents cited ‘value’ among their top-three purchasing considerations. This is more pronounced in Singapore, where around 70% cite ‘value’ as a top consideration.

“Singaporeans are passionate about food and appreciate the convenience. Also, true to our kiasu nature, we never want to miss out on a good deal and we are constantly seeking out value. As such, this partnership with GrabFood has all the right ingredients for success,” added Leong.

“As one of the leading digital lifestyle apps in Singapore, we are always finding new ways to create more value for our customers with every dollar they spend on our products and services. We are therefore pleased to be able to launch GrabFood on ShopBack. At a time when consumers increasingly seek out apps and platforms that empower their digital lifestyles, we are confident that this partnership can serve their evolving needs,” said Gillian Ang, Head of Marketing for Grab Singapore.

ShopBack is available for download on the App Store and Google Play for free.

  • ShopBack teams up with Shopee Malaysia to launch Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions

ShopBack teams up with Shopee Malaysia to launch Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions

ShopBack, Asia-Pacific’s top rewards, and discovery platform, together with Shopee, Malaysia’s no.1 e-commerce platform, has jointly launched Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions (AMS) today. This initiative is aimed at helping brands accelerate the growth of their e-commerce stores while bringing more value to consumers in the form of product discovery and savings.

This partnership enables participating brands to list their Shopee Official Stores directly on the ShopBack Malaysia platform, thereby allowing them to determine the cashback amount to reward customers. Previously, users received sitewide cashback when purchasing from Shopee through the ShopBack platform. Now with Shopee AMS, users will earn additional storewide cashback on their purchases from participating brands, on top of receiving the usual sitewide cashback.

In Malaysia, ShopBack generated around 1.5 million monthly orders for over 500 merchants in Q2 of 2020. Since its launch, ShopBack Malaysia has rewarded its users with over RM60 million in cashback. Starting today, the brands participating in Shopee AMS will be able to leverage ShopBack Malaysia’s extensive reach and promote their Shopee Official Stores to over 3 million users.

“We are thrilled that Shopee has trusted ShopBack to be one of their key partners in Malaysia. This collaboration will see two industry leaders coming together to work towards the common goal of driving value to merchants and users. ShopBack can help to bridge the gap between online shoppers and their favorite brands on Shopee, while allowing them to earn extra cashback on their purchases. This partnership is also a great way to expand our merchant line-up to give our users more options to discover and earn cashback. We look forward to working closely with Shopee to help more brands grow their digital presence and sales,” said Eddy Han, Country General Manager, ShopBack Malaysia.

Shopee took a data-led approach in selecting the first 13 brands from various categories to participate in Shopee AMS. The shortlisted brands are Amazfit, Anker, Anlene, Anmum, Aukey, DirectD, Fernleaf, fitbit, Jabra, Realme, Skullcandy, Tefal, and tronsmart, which are popular among local shoppers. ShopBack users will be able to earn up to 7.5% cashback when they purchase from any of these brands.

“We are delighted to be taking our partnership with ShopBack to the next level. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the rate of digital adoption, and as a result we have seen an increase in the number of new businesses joining Shopee to bring their product offerings online. Through this partnership, brands will be able to leverage ShopBack’s extensive user base in Malaysia to drive traffic to their Official Stores on Shopee and promote their products. This will be especially useful for brands that do not have their own online stores. ShopBack will serve as an additional marketing tool for them to cut through the noise and drive awareness and sales in a targeted way,” said Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director, Shopee.

Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd Ghapar, Senior Director, Domestic & Events Division, Tourism Malaysia says, “This is the third year that Tourism Malaysia is supporting ShopBack Malaysia’s efforts in promoting domestic travels. In the past two years, it has been rolling out a Chief Travel Officer video series to showcase the immense beauty of our land to the public, and this year we are expanding our support towards ShopBack’s Online Travel Fair, the largest e-travel fair in Malaysia which is held in collaboration with its partner merchants including Agoda, Booking.com, Expedia, Malaysia Airlines, BusOnlineTicket, KLOOK, Traveloka, Trip.com, and many more.”

“The past ShopBack Online Travel Fair achieved 100% year-on-year growth. This is definitely encouraging and together with the continuous efforts from the public sector as well as private e-commerce players, we are confident in growing the industry performance towards the Visit Malaysia 2020 goal,” Dato’ Dr. Ammar says.

Alvin Gill, Country General Manager of ShopBack Malaysia, expressed that every year, hundreds of thousands of travellers use ShopBack to make travel bookings with Agoda, Booking.com, Expedia, Malaysia Airlines etc. because it saves them more money. “Through a special partnership with all the online travel sites, travellers can get up to 8% cashback on each travel booking. • ShopBack ventures offline with ShopBack GO

ShopBack ventures offline with ShopBack GO

ShopBack, the one-stop lifestyle platform that powers smarter purchase decisions, officially enters the offline space with the introduction of ShopBack GO. Launched in partnership with Visa and Mastercard, ShopBack GO enables users to earn between five to 10 per cent cashback on top of their existing card rewards at over 400 F&B brands concentrated in selected areas.

With ShopBack GO, F&B partners will gain access to ShopBack’s existing base of over one million Singaporeans via its mobile app. The first-of-its-kind offline discovery and rewards platform in Southeast Asia fills the performance marketing gap in the ecosystem with zero disruption to business operations and consumers’ payment habits.

“For the past four years, our core business model has succeeded in delivering cost-effective marketing for ecommerce merchants while delighting users with cashback for their online purchases,” said Vincent Wong, Country Head of ShopBack Singapore. “We have now replicated the experience offline with ShopBack GO, an omnichannel retail solution for offline merchants and rewards platform for users.”

Partnering over 400 F&B brands from local favourites like Tiong Bahru Bakery to international establishments like Paradise Group, ShopBack GO rides on Singapore’s vibrant food scene to encourage wider adoption of cashless payment via Visa and Mastercard.

ShopBack GO launches with a higher density of F&B brands in four areas: One-North, Buona Vista, Holland Village and Tanjong Pagar. The first three locations were selected for convenience in proximity to the office, allowing the start-up to conduct quick experiments with F&B brands in the area, while Tanjong Pagar gives ShopBack a flavour of the Central Business District crowd’s appetite.

“Food is a part of Singapore’s DNA and Singaporeans increasingly love to dine out. Based on Visa’s data, the number of dining transactions have increased more than 30 per cent year-onyear and dining spend makes up almost 20 per cent of total card spend for Singaporeans. This partnership with ShopBack in launching ShopBack GO will drive more consumers to use digital payments for their dining purchases. More importantly, it encourages more merchants to accept electronic payments and also show their willingness to adopt digital payments. This is important as Singapore moves into a more digital and smart nation city,” said Kunal Chatterjee, Visa Country Manager for Singapore & Brunei.

“Seven in 10 consumers are looking to find offers for their dining experience. We believe ShopBack GO’s reward-based model will appeal to the foodie in many Singaporeans who love a great deal for good food. Given how frequently local consumers dine out, solutions such as these will also go a long way to drive behavioural change towards a wider use of cashless payments in Singapore,” said Deborah Heng, Country Manager, Mastercard Singapore.

  • ShopBack Partners Petron to Launch Petrol Redemption Programme

ShopBack Partners Petron to Launch Petrol Redemption Programme

Malaysians can now utilise cashback from ShopBack every time they refuel at petrol stations. The No.1 Cashback portal in the country recently inked a partnership with Petron Malaysia, becoming the first in the country to allow users to convert cashback to Petron Miles (PMiles) Points and vice versa.

“Previously, after our users get cashback from their online purchases, they can choose to transfer the cash to their bank accounts or use it to offset Maxis phone bills. The collaboration with Petron is a first for both parties – the first long-term online to offline redemption for ShopBack, and the first offline to online redemption (PMiles Points to cashback) for Petron as well,” says Alvin Gill, Country General Manager of ShopBack Malaysia.

He mentions that the number of users who accumulated five figures cashback savings through ShopBack is on the rise. Malaysians are getting more familiar with cashback benefits and the company has been exploring opportunities to continue shaping a smarter consumer spending habit offline, of which it feels the priority should be on ways that meet the practical needs of Malaysians’ daily life.

“It is reported that about 23.9 per cent of Malaysians’ disposable income was spent on petrol, housing and utilities in 2016. Hence we decided to pursue petrol redemption as the second non-cash withdrawal option. ShopBack is excited to launch this with Petron and we definitely look forward to similar collaborations in the future.”

The PMiles Points redemption option is now available on all ShopBack platforms (web, mobile web, and app).

To convert cashback to PMiles points, users just need to log onto their accounts, select withdraw – points redemption and thereafter fill in the required information. For every RM10 cashback, users can convert it to 600 PMiles points.

According to Choong Kum Choy, Head of Retail Business for Petron Malaysia, the collaboration with ShopBack underscores Petron’s commitment to provide the best customer experience for PMiles members. “We are committed to giving our customers the best products, the best service, and the best rewards. Our collaboration with ShopBack gives our PMiles holders more value with the cashback option, while significantly enhancing their shopping experience.”

Currently, Petron Malaysia has more than 620 service stations in the country. PMiles members can also convert their points at Petron Service Stations Nationwide or download the form from PMiles Website. Every 1000 PMiles points can be converted to RM10 Cashback, which will be credited into the user’s ShopBack account.

  • ShopBack: More people aware of 11.11 this year

ShopBack: More people aware of 11.11 this year

Leading Cashback platform ShopBack conducted a survey recently and found the awareness level towards 11.11 Singles’ Day among Malaysian online shoppers has grown to 96% this year, from 69% in 2016. “In a 2016 survey to 2,000 Malaysian online shoppers, 69% answered they know what Singles’ Day is and 31% said they don’t. This year, 96% answered it is a huge online event (68%) or just another online shopping event (28%); only 3% from 2,000 respondents said they don’t know what 11.11 is, and 1% indicated that day has other meanings to them. This is an approximately 40% increase compared to 2016,” Alvin Gill, Country General Manager of ShopBack Malaysia says.

According to Alvin, Alibaba’s investment in Lazada and massive promotions rolled out via multiple online and offline channels, as well as education efforts done by reward partners throughout the years likely contributed to the awareness growth. “Alibaba’s Taobao and Tmall have been collaborating with ShopBack on a regional level to boost market performance via cash rewards and multimedia educational efforts since 2014, of which include multi-lingual contents, digital and on-ground marketing exposures, as well as customer service support to encourage purchases through either Taobao, Tmall or Lazada’s Taobao collection, whichever suits their needs,” he adds.

“While it is encouraging that a majority of them are looking forward to 11.11, online sellers should also target those who feel 11.11 is ‘just another shopping event’ via better product and promotional strategy. 98% of respondents said they are willing to make more purchases if the products they need are available with greater offers online. The top three offers that would encourage them to spend are high product discounts, free shipping/delivery, and promo codes/coupon,” Alvin points out.

When asked to choose three online marketplaces that they feel would provide the best 11.11 deals this year, Lazada emerged as the top choice, followed by Shopee and 11street.

The survey also reveals that online shoppers prefer their shopping to be affordable, fast and safe. “Mobile & Electronics emerges as the most popular category for 11.11 without surprise; the second is Home & Lifestyle which suggests shoppers could be looking for items to make over their living spaces before the New Year, followed by Fashion as well as Health & Beauty.”

The 2018 ShopBack 11.11 online shopping survey covered views from 2,000 of ShopBack’s active online shoppers, of which 98.7% are aged 21 years old and above and around 85% have RM2,000 monthly income and above. 68.1% of the survey respondents use credit/debit card to make online payments while 25.4% select online banking as the preferred method, followed by cash on delivery 3.3%, Paypal 2.8%, and others 1.3%.

“We witnessed 10 times more than usual web traffic directed to our partner’s sites on 11.11 in 2017, more than RM6 million worth of transactions were made through our platform and over RM200,000 cashback saved by using ShopBack. Together with our partner merchants, ShopBack Malaysia has tailor-made the 2018’s 11.11 campaign according to shopper’s needs and we aim to break the record by doubling our performance as well as cashback number this year,” Alvin says.

Currently, more than 1 million Malaysians are using ShopBack for their daily purchases. The company works with online sites like Lazada, 11street, Taobao, Tmall, Booking.com, Expedia, Traveloka, ZALORA, Hermo, etc to give up to 30% cashback as a loyalty reward to online shoppers. Besides Malaysia, ShopBack also operates in Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia. Over RM25 million worth of cashback has been given to its Malaysian users thus far. The cashback savings can be transferred out to a user’s bank account upon validation.

  • Raya Online Sales Will Likely Peak inEarly June With 0% GST

Raya Online Sales Will Likely Peak inEarly June With 0% GST

ShopBack, the leading online Cashback platform that partners more than 500 online shops in Malaysia, foresees Raya sales will reach its peak in the first week of June, given the 0% GST implementation from June 1st onwards.

“Our partners have started to prepare for an early June promotion as that will likely be the week when consumers rush into Raya preparation. For example, Lazada is planning for a Mega Sale from June 1st until June 4th with onsite games, flash sales, and up to 11% cashback for ShopBack users. Around 40 partners are joining our Raya campaign and we are looking to have at least 100% growth this year,” says Alvin Gill, Country General Manager of ShopBack Malaysia.

Other online partners that are joining the campaign include Traveloka, 11street, foodpanda, FashionValet, Booking.com, Senheng, Hermo, Expedia, Sephora, ASOS, JD sports, PappaDelivery etc. and the highest Cashback on offer is 30%.

“There was a 25% drop in sales during the 14th General Election week and it was expected. As people resume working and Ramadan begins, the number of online sales has started to recover to the previous level. According to ShopBack data, the number of sales powered by ShopBack during Ramadan 2017 VS 2016 grew by 100%. We are confident to achieve beyond this number as the market sentiment looks very positive after GE14.

“The 0% GST may allow Malaysians to have better purchasing power when spending for their Raya needs. Based on our historical data, sales normally surge at the second week of Ramadan but for this year, it may start after the 0% GST takes effect and will prolong to the fourth week,” Alvin says.

Malaysians Spent More Compared to Indonesians

ShopBack regional’s data also hows that in a comparison with Indonesians, Malaysians’ average spending during Ramadan 2017 was USD 54.54. Indonesians instead spent USD 49.04 on average. Overall, Fashion appeared as one of the top selling categories in both countries. Malaysians spent more on Health & Beauty and Electronic items while Groceries, Toys & Games had a great demand among Indonesians.

“Larger electronic items, for example, household appliances could be the reason of higher spending found among Malaysians,” Alvin explains.

Both Malaysia and Indonesia experienced a dip in traffic during Iftar hour. Website and app traffic during peak hour remained unchanged except for an increase of 15% during Ramadan month.

“This year, ShopBack has integrated its app with regional partners like Lazada, especially Lazada app users can get better cashback when they shop through our app during Ramadan. We aim to integrate with more partners’ apps in the future to enhance our user experience. It will continue to propel our growth in the next half of 2018 together with the implementation of 0% GST,” Alvin adds.

Currently, more than 1 million Malaysians are using ShopBack for their daily purchases. ShopBack has given over RM25 million worth of cashback since 2015. The cashback savings can be transferred out to a user’s bank account upon validation. Other than Malaysia, ShopBack also operates in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Australia.

  • Earlier Spike in Travel Expenses Due to GE14

Earlier Spike in Travel Expenses Due to GE14

ShopBack, the leading online Cashback platform that partners majority of transportation and accommodation booking sites in Malaysia, observes a 26% increase in travel purchases among its local users since the unveiling of the 14th General Election’s voting day (May 9th).

“The next peak period for travel booking after March’s MATTA fair is supposed to be two weeks to a month prior to Hari Raya, but the purchasing trend came sooner this year as GE14 falls before Ramadhan,” says Alvin Gill, Country General Manager of ShopBack Malaysia.

According to ShopBack Malaysia’s data, partners that offered a discount in flight and bus tickets, as well as reloadable petrol card, are the most sought-after stores under travel category on ShopBack’s web and app.

“The daily average sales of our travel merchants has got a 26% increment since the voting day announcement. The demand remained strong in the past weeks, and we reckon part of the contributing factors was that AirAsia introduced fixed fares for all voters. ShopBack Malaysia’s users could purchase AirAsia’s tickets via Traveloka and Expedia; at the same time obtain cashback savings from every transaction made. In addition, bus tickets, Petronas gift cards from Lazada and 11street were also among the best-selling products in April,” Alvin explained.

To cater for those who haven’t got transportation bookings sorted out yet, ShopBack Malaysia will organise a Mid-Year Travel Fair from April 30th to May 6thand offer up to 7.5% cashback together with its travel partners including Malaysia Airlines, Traveloka, Expedia, BusOnlineTicket, Booking.com, Hotels.com, etc. Malaysians could seize the chance and optimise their spending by visiting ShopBack’s website or download its mobile app.

Malaysia is the No.1 Travel Destination for Locals, Not Overseas

On the other hand, ShopBack Malaysia’s data also shows Malaysians frequently visits domestic destinations, especially Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, and Johor Bahru. Japan is the second most popular country, followed by Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand.

“Malaysians love to travel, and they didn’t stop travelling due to the economy challenges. Instead of flying out, many of them chose to travel within Malaysia and spent on better accommodation, such as 4-star hotel i.e. KSL Hotel & Resort and Hatten Hotel Melaka. Even so, the daily average spending for domestic travel is still significantly lower than Japan and Taiwan (four times lower than Japan and about half of Taiwan’s expenses).”

Delving into customer purchasing pattern, he said if there’s no special occasion, travel transactions usually happens on Monday and Wednesday, between 3 pm – 6 pm. The year-end holiday season makes the heaviest travel months throughout the entire year, and Malaysians’ online travel spending also tends to spike before every festive period, and during MATTA Fair.

“Although MATTA fair is an offline event, online booking sites such as Malaysia Airlines, Traveloka, Expedia will jump on the bandwagon and as the platform that empowers shoppers to shop and save smart, ShopBack Malaysia works closely with them to tailor-make best deals and upsized cashback for our users. It is a win-win situation as the result usually is very encouraging – for example, we noticed local airlines achieved 2.5 times more bookings during the past MATTA fair,” Alvin said.

To date, ShopBack has more than 1 million users in Malaysia and it has rewarded them with more than RM25 million worth of cashback.  What’s better is users are able to stack this on top of their credit card’s cashback, and transfer the money to their bank account once it gets validated. Other than Malaysia, ShopBack is also available in Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines.

  • Tourism Malaysia Supports ShopBack’s Move of Hiring A Chief Travel Officer

Tourism Malaysia Supports ShopBack’s Move of Hiring A Chief Travel Officer

Tourism Malaysia today expresses its supports towards ShopBack Malaysia’s Chief Travel Officer (CTO) campaign, an attractive idea that offers RM15,000 for a travel lover to go for three trips within Malaysia and showcase how he/she does it through a smarter way via videos.

“Travel has become a common hobby among the youth, and we believe ShopBack’s Chief Travel Officer campaign will certainly drive interest and conversations towards the interesting places in Malaysia. The first CTO campaign in 2017 was a success, and we are glad that ShopBack Malaysia is passionate to keep this going – more worthy places could be discovered by the next Chief Travel Officer,” says Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal Abd Rahim, Deputy Director, Domestic & Events Division, Tourism Malaysia.

“Malaysia is a blessed country with beautiful destinations. Many of us are travel lovers too, therefore we initiated a social campaign that embodies money-saving skills, passionate travel spirit as well as fun and daring adventure. The first CTO brought us to places less publicised such as Kudat, the tip of Borneo in Sabah while nicely demonstrated how she saved on trips booking via ShopBack through lively videos. We look forward to working with the next Chief Travel Officer for a more engaging experience like this,” says Alvin Gill, Country General Manager, ShopBack Malaysia.

The leading cashback site works with a full range of travel sites that covers airlines, bus, rides, accommodations and tour services to offer cashback on top of discounts provided by merchants. Those include Malaysia Airlines, easybook, Expedia, Booking.com, Traveloka, Hotels.com, Adventoro, KLOOK, Grab and more.

The Chief Travel Officer will be given a RM15,000 travel fund to plan for 3 holidays within Malaysia. He/She will need to demonstrate how the travel planning was done, film and share travel experience with the public. The campaign targets to encourage youth to travel the smarter way and appreciate the beauty of the country that they live in.

Amirul also expressed that the Chief Travel Officer campaign will help to amplify Tourism Malaysia’s Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Dekat Je Domestic Campaign and Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, where ShopBack’s CTO will indirectly promote local tourist attractions and generate interest on domestic travels among Malaysians.

“We appreciate Tourism Malaysia’s endorsement of this campaign and are confident that it will resonate well with travel communities and show them a journey to enjoy travel without burning a hole in the pocket. Since 2015, we have helped Malaysians to save more than RM25 million Cashback from their purchases, of which a chunk of it is from travel expenses,” Alvin added.

The application closing date is 8th April 2018, 6 pm. It opens to all Malaysians who love to save while travelling always active on social media and keen to discover the path less travelled. The chosen one will be announced on 18th April 2018.
