    Shopee launching platform in Poland

Sea Ltd’s Shopee is preparing to launch in Poland and is currently recruiting sellers, two company sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

The move will be the first expansion into European e-commerce for the $190 billion Singapore-headquartered technology group, whose gaming arm Garena is already active in the region.

Shopee is simultaneously preparing to launch in India, Reuters reported last week, after aggressively expanding in Latin America since earlier this year.

One of the sources told Reuters that Shopee is cautiously scaling up its global expansion by testing out possible new markets.

The two sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media, said Shopee will also launch in Argentina in the coming months.

The firm is already the dominant player in e-commerce in Southeast Asia, according to market researchers, bringing in $1.2 billion globally in revenue for the quarter ending June 30.

Amorepacific inks Memorandum of Understanding with Shopee to boost growth of K-beauty

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, and Amorepacific, Korea’s leading beauty company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen regional partnership and accelerate the growth of K-beauty in the booming online beauty category in Southeast Asia. This year, Amorepacific will not only be focusing on growing its online presence in Southeast Asia, but have also included Taiwan as a new market within the partnership to boost its reach and share in the wider region.

Since launching on Shopee Mall in 2018, Amorepacific has recorded more than 13x of growth in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), and doubled its e-commerce business regionally, in 2020. The leading Asian beauty brand aims to take its success further on Shopee with data-driven strategies, joint marketing efforts and more co-branded collaborations. Amorepacific also aims to expand the coverage of its current portfolio of brands on Shopee to more markets, in order to meet untapped demand and provide more assortment to consumers. These brands include Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Mamonde, Ryo, Mise en scene, innisfree and Etude.

Michael Youngsoo Kim, Head of Amorepacific APAC Regional Headquarters, said, “As our key e-commerce partner in the region, we are glad that we have seen strong and successful results with Shopee, and want to take it further by collaborating on new and innovative initiatives.

With Shopee’s deep understanding of the local market landscape in the region, engaged users, and data expertise, we believe that Amorepacific and Shopee together, will be able to better serve the needs of consumers by bringing more of our world-class products to them. We also look forward to the first regional campaign of Sulwhasoo on Shopee Premium, which will help to expand our brand presence with the growing online luxury beauty shoppers.”

Chris Feng, Chief Executive Officer at Shopee, said, “As one of the invited brand partners of Shopee’s newly launched Regional Champion Brands Programme1, we are confident of helping Amorepacific capture more growth and opportunities regionally with priority access and support on all regional initiatives and resources. This partnership will also enable us to tap on their vast portfolio and industry expertise to strengthen Shopee’s beauty and personal care offering, giving our shoppers more choices, as well as upgrading the online shopping experience. We look forward to working with Amorepacific to achieve even greater success than before, as they scale their presence and investment on e-commerce this year forward.”

Exclusive regional campaign for Sulwhasoo to drive premium category growth

With the growth in demand of premium beauty brands exceeding mass beauty brands on Shopee, Amorepacific will be launching the first regional campaign for Sulwhasoo on Shopee Premium this April, to drive online sales and premium category growth on e-commerce. This follows the exemplary performance of Sulwhasoo’s launch in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand on Shopee last year.

Sulwhasoo can curate brand content and tap on the differentiated user experience on Shopee Premium to enhance its brand storytelling, and deepen engagement with the growing number of premium and luxury consumer segments2. The beauty brand will also explore launching a brand membership programme on Shopee to reward loyal shoppers.

Engage users with personalised and unique content

Amorepacific also aims to leverage Shopee’s market leadership and deep data insights into consumer shopping trends and behaviour, to help pre-launch new exclusive products that serve existing brand lovers and acquire new users. In addition, Amorepacific will also explore introducing its brand ambassadors such as popular Korean celebrities and artistes, into its Shopee campaigns, strengthening its brand affinity and awareness with consumers across the region.

Korean beauty and skincare continues to attract a huge following in Asia and beyond. In Shopee’s annual mega campaigns from 9.9 to 12.12, Amorepacific brands such as Laneige and innisfree consistently ranked in the top five of the beauty category. This is driven by consumers’ preference toward skincare products made with unique, natural ingredient formulas4 and personalised beauty solutions, as well as the global rise of Korean pop culture, particularly throughout Southeast Asia.

  • ShopBack teams up with Shopee Malaysia to launch Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions

ShopBack teams up with Shopee Malaysia to launch Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions

ShopBack, Asia-Pacific’s top rewards, and discovery platform, together with Shopee, Malaysia’s no.1 e-commerce platform, has jointly launched Shopee Affiliate Marketing Solutions (AMS) today. This initiative is aimed at helping brands accelerate the growth of their e-commerce stores while bringing more value to consumers in the form of product discovery and savings.

This partnership enables participating brands to list their Shopee Official Stores directly on the ShopBack Malaysia platform, thereby allowing them to determine the cashback amount to reward customers. Previously, users received sitewide cashback when purchasing from Shopee through the ShopBack platform. Now with Shopee AMS, users will earn additional storewide cashback on their purchases from participating brands, on top of receiving the usual sitewide cashback.

In Malaysia, ShopBack generated around 1.5 million monthly orders for over 500 merchants in Q2 of 2020. Since its launch, ShopBack Malaysia has rewarded its users with over RM60 million in cashback. Starting today, the brands participating in Shopee AMS will be able to leverage ShopBack Malaysia’s extensive reach and promote their Shopee Official Stores to over 3 million users.

“We are thrilled that Shopee has trusted ShopBack to be one of their key partners in Malaysia. This collaboration will see two industry leaders coming together to work towards the common goal of driving value to merchants and users. ShopBack can help to bridge the gap between online shoppers and their favorite brands on Shopee, while allowing them to earn extra cashback on their purchases. This partnership is also a great way to expand our merchant line-up to give our users more options to discover and earn cashback. We look forward to working closely with Shopee to help more brands grow their digital presence and sales,” said Eddy Han, Country General Manager, ShopBack Malaysia.

Shopee took a data-led approach in selecting the first 13 brands from various categories to participate in Shopee AMS. The shortlisted brands are Amazfit, Anker, Anlene, Anmum, Aukey, DirectD, Fernleaf, fitbit, Jabra, Realme, Skullcandy, Tefal, and tronsmart, which are popular among local shoppers. ShopBack users will be able to earn up to 7.5% cashback when they purchase from any of these brands.

“We are delighted to be taking our partnership with ShopBack to the next level. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the rate of digital adoption, and as a result we have seen an increase in the number of new businesses joining Shopee to bring their product offerings online. Through this partnership, brands will be able to leverage ShopBack’s extensive user base in Malaysia to drive traffic to their Official Stores on Shopee and promote their products. This will be especially useful for brands that do not have their own online stores. ShopBack will serve as an additional marketing tool for them to cut through the noise and drive awareness and sales in a targeted way,” said Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director, Shopee.

Shopee Malaysia has announced an RM15 million (US$3.5 million) support package for sellers on its network.

The online retail platform’s package aims to assist around 70,000 SMEs in the territory trading in a range of sectors and is an outcome of engagements between itself, retail associations, business owners and chambers of commerce.

“Shopee wants to drive the digitalization of traditional businesses and bring them online,” he said.

“The package will support all its sellers by creating sales and growth opportunities, reducing operational costs and facilitating sustainable development through funding, subsidies and education.”
