Toyota Launches Virtual Showroom To Further Digitize Customer Experience

Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched its virtual showroom to further expand the digital experience for its customers in India. Calling it a step towards the new normal, the Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker says that the virtual showroom will allow customers to have an in-depth look at Toyota’s vehicle line-up online. Customers can also book their new Toyota directly from the virtual showroom, as it’s fully integrated with a payment gateway. The carmaker says that the virtual showroom will facilitate offers, finance options, loan applications and other value-added services in the future.

Commenting on the new initiative, V. Wiseline Sigamani, Associate General Manager (AGM), Sales and Strategic Marketing, TKM, said, “Owing to the pandemic and growing access to technologies, customers increasingly prefer digital and contactless experience. Last year, as COVID-19 disrupted the purchase lifecycle, we took immediate steps to digitalize our sales process by making available pricing, offers and booking in the online realm. The virtual showroom further simplifies all the elements of car buying by digitizing and integrating the key touchpoints in a customer’s purchase cycle as a one-stop-shop solution. The core idea behind the virtual showroom is to empower our customers to access our world-class cars from wherever they want to. Moving forward, we will continue to listen to our customers keenly and introduce new solutions and tools leveraging digital technologies to further improve their buying experience.”

Customers visiting Toyota’s virtual showroom will be able to select any model and get a 360-degree external and internal view of the car. They can even check out all the available variants and colour options, switch on the lights, open and close the doors, virtually experience the top features in the day or night modes and get variant-wise prices. The platform also comes with an augmented reality mode for smartphones, which allows customers to see how a Toyota vehicle will look when parked in their garage or portico.

The virtual showroom also gives you the option to schedule a test drive. Customers can also book their Toyota vehicle directly from the virtual showroom and get it delivered to their nearest dealership or their homes. In fact, Toyota says that it has also integrated all its dealer partners onto the new platform, and soon the virtual showroom will be made available on the websites of all its dealer partners as well.

  • Tesla Scouts For Showroom Space In India, Hires Executive For Lobbying

Tesla Scouts For Showroom Space In India, Hires Executive For Lobbying

Tesla in January registered a local subsidiary in India, which is expected to import and sell the Model 3 sedan by as early as mid-2021. Tesla has recruited Manuj Khurana, a former executive of India’s investment promotion body Invest India.

Tesla Inc is scouting for locations to open showrooms in three Indian cities and has hired an executive to lead its lobbying and business efforts ahead of its planned entry into the country, sources familiar with the discussions told Reuters. The electric-car maker in January registered a local company in India, where it is expected to import and sell the Model 3 sedan by as early as mid-2021, seeking to target rich customers in a niche market.

The world’s most valuable automaker by market capitalization is looking for commercial properties as large as 20,000-30,000 square feet each to open showrooms and service centers in the capital New Delhi, financial hub Mumbai in the west and tech city Bengaluru in the south, three sources said.

Separately, Tesla has recruited Manuj Khurana, a former executive of India’s investment promotion body Invest India, in the first major hire to lead its policy and business development efforts in the country, two other sources said. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment, while Khurana declined to comment.

In October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter the company will enter India in 2021 “for sure”, though the billionaire had issued similar tweets in the past. The search for showroom space and Khurana’s appointment signal Tesla is moving faster.

Global property consultant CBRE Group Inc – hired for the showroom searches by Tesla – has been surveying places for several weeks and is focussing on locations that will give the company easier access to affluent customers, sources said.

Some luxury car showrooms in upmarket areas of metro cities are typically between 8,000-10,000 square feet, but most showrooms are far smaller in India where high-end real estate space is usually in short supply and property prices in New Delhi and Mumbai are among the highest in the world.

“If you look at Tesla’s showrooms globally, they are like experience centers. It would look at replicating that with some modifications for the Indian market,” said one of the sources, all of whom declined to be identified as the talks are private.

CBRE said it does not comment “on work we may be doing on behalf of our clients”.

Khurana has previously been on a government panel on the future of transportation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s top scientific adviser. In his new role, he is also handling Tesla’s market-entry process in India, two sources said.

But India isn’t likely to be an easy market to crack for Tesla. The country has negligible charging infrastructure and high taxes on imported cars, as well as low adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). India recorded just 5,000 EV sales out of the total 2.4 million cars sold last year, while in China new energy vehicle sales touched 1.25 million.

However, analysts say India’s rising number of affluent consumers makes it a market the automaker can’t ignore as the government increases its focus on promoting clean cars.

While Tesla plans to import cars at first, India’s road minister told Reuters last month that the government is ready to offer incentives to ensure the carmaker’s production cost would be less than in China if it commits to local manufacturing.

Diesel unveils a 360-degree selling platform and virtual showroom

Diesel has unveiled Hyperoom, a 360-degree virtual selling platform and exhibition space.

Conceived by Diesel’s parent company OTB, Hyperoom resembles the Diesel’s physical showroom in Milan. All Diesel’s products will be featured in the virtual store through a customised section of the platform, including the Spring and Summer 2021 Collections.

At Hyperoom, customers can peruse the products in 360-degree displays or in 2D closeups with product descriptions.

“One must look for silver linings whenever and wherever possible,” says Massimo Piombini, CEO of Diesel, referring to the challenge of the Covid-19 crisis.

“This year has sparked an urgency to accelerate what we can offer and accomplish in the digital space. With this tool we have set a new benchmark for the industry, in regard to digital transformation.”

“At Diesel, we aimed to keep as much of the buying’s physical element as possible”, the company says in a statement. “To digitally recreate the selling process, we have enabled remote buying sessions through enhanced and comprehensive digital assets.”

Diesel believes the new virtual-store concept will be a solution for many fashion brands as it not only provides a unique online retail experience but also reduces the amount of clothing samples required at physical stores.

  • Temple & Webster posts strong Sales during First half of the Year.

Temple & Webster posts strong Sales during First half of the Year.

Temple & Webster’s revenue grew by around 40 percent to roughly $32 million in the first four months of the year, the online furniture and homewares business said in a trading update to analysts.

With two months still go in the second half of fiscal 2019, the retailer indicated it has seen the continued uptake of online furniture shopping due to demographic changes, something chief executive Mark Coulter previously explained when the business revealed its $3 million profit during the first half of its 2019 financial year.

“The trend to online actually accelerated during a tougher retail environment, and I think we’re benefiting from that trend,” Coulter told.

“Irrespective of any macro-economic trend, there’s still that shift toward online. Millennials are still growing up, and are still moving out of home and are buying their first or second property. That’s going to happen regardless of any downturn.”

The business’s focus on improving and increasing its range has allowed it to sell across multiple demographics, and the number of active customers grew 36 percent to approximately 260,000 as of April 30, 2019.

In the first four months, the company also launched its first by-appointment trade and commercial showroom in Sydney.

The showroom is described as the brand’s first permanent physical experience, offering customers the ability to touch and feel products, view samples, and review designs prior to large scale purchases.

“I think as the order value gets bigger and as the order gets more complicated, having a physical space for someone to meet an account manager will help,” Coulter previously told.

“From a customer point of view, we don’t envisage having many showrooms around the country… I think the main game for us is going to online for a very long time.”

King Living Opens Shanghai Flagship Store

Australian furniture and lifestyle brand King Living has opened a flagship retail store in Shanghai, continuing its global expansion into China.

The new 400sqm space will showcase King Living’s sofa designs, dining ranges, contemporary bed and mattress ranges, and outdoor collections.

The brand has been a prominent player in Australian furniture design for more than 40 years, and is now continuing to seek a global audience with the opening of the new showroom in the design district of Xuhui in Shanghai.

As King Living moves into China, it further expands its global reach with existing stores in Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and Canada, with a showroom opening in Vancouver slated for later this year.

The brand represents the deep quality and barefoot luxury of the Australian lifestyle that is in high demand across China, which has been the driving force behind for its expansion.

“Shanghai is key to King Living’s global growth strategy,” said King Living’s CEO Anna Carrabs. “China provides us with an unparalleled growth opportunity that doesn’t exist in slower-moving markets of developed countries. A key advantage for King Living is that one of our manufacturing facilities is in Shanghai, which allows us to implement initiatives and increase market penetration.

“Being from Australia, we have a reputation for quality, and I think that sets us apart from some of our global competitors. This is a very exciting time for King Living and we look forward to seeing the Shanghai showroom thrive in what we hope will be the first of many stores in the region.”

King Living is also one of the first Australian furniture retailers to offer Alipay and WeChat Pay as a payment option throughout all their showrooms in Australia and abroad. These platforms are the preferred payment method for Chinese consumers both domestically and internationally, enabling more customers to transact with their mobile wallet.

  • Ikea to open first small-format store in Sydney

Ikea to open first small-format store in Sydney

Ikea Australia’s first small-format store is set to open in Sydney’s Westfield Warringah Mall at the beginning of May.

The Ikea Planning Studio will provide shoppers on the Northern Beaches with a place to plan and build their dream kitchens and bedrooms. Staff on-site will be equipped with tablets and provide one-on-one consultations to help customers select the right products from Ikea’s range of furniture, appliances, storage solutions and more.

This stands in sharp contrast to the massive, showroom-cum-warehouse stores that Ikea traditionally has been famous for. But the shifting retail landscape has seen the Swedish furniture giant globally adapt its offer by launching e-commerce sites, providing more do-it-for-me services and, increasingly, experimenting with smaller stores in urban centres.

“At Ikea, we know Australians are looking for new and more convenient ways to shop their favourite products. We’re excited to be bringing bespoke Ikea shopping experiences to Aussies around the country in locations that suit them,” Ikea Australia country manager Jan Gardberg said.

“We’ve chosen Warringah Mall as our first location in order to reach even more Australians that live within urban areas, outside of the city centre.”

The Planning Studio seemingly aims to provide a more immersive shopping experience, with a “luxe bedroom environment” that will transport shoppers to a “hub of femininity through floral scents and classic detailing” and a “soothing wellness sanctuary” that will feature a variety of kitchen solutions.

In a separate initiative, the retailer currently is hosting a series of “sleepovers” at stores across the country, where select customers can experience how Ikea’s range of sleep solutions – that is, mattresses, bedding and other items – provide a better night’s sleep. This suggests Ikea is looking for ways to interact with customers on a more personalised and experiential level.

“We want to inspire people to get creative and explore the possibilities of our range. The launch of our small format stores is just another way we’re helping Australians to create personalised and functional spaces within the home,” Gardberg said.

The Planning Studio’s design was inspired by Scandinavian modern style and Ikea’s design values of sustainability, quality, form, function and affordability, the retailer said, and created with the eco-friendly shopper in mind.

  • Tesla Motors Opens First Showroom In South Korea’s Largest Mall

Tesla Motors Opens First Showroom In South Korea’s Largest Mall

Teslarati reported on November 28 that Tesla Motors is all-set to open its first showroom inside South Korea’s largest shopping mall, the Starfield Hanam Complex. The store is expected to open today. However, the news didn’t do much to the stock as TSLA declined 0.41% during after-hours trading on Monday.

The company’s latest store in Gyeonggi Province would be its first retail outlet in South Korea. With its entry, Tesla may provide tough competition to the region’s largest automaker; Hyundai Motor. The latter is also expected to open a store in Starfield. Moreover, the company is expected to launch its competitively priced Electric Vehicle (EV) before the year-end.

Moreover, executives of Starfield Hanam indicated that they were notified about the store’s opening date. However, they believe that the date may be delayed, depending on the company’s preparations.

Teslarati reported: “While the Silicon Valley-based automaker takes aim at expanding its retail presence in South Korea, the company is also busy with laying the ground work for the build out of its Supercharger network across the country.” The company is also reportedly viewing its plans of building supercharging stations around Seoul.

The report further mentioned that TSLA has also invested in constructing another showroom within the country’s high-end Gangnam district. The district is also considered as the Rodeo Drive of South Korea. Earlier in September, the company had signed a $439,059 lease to get its hands on a three-story upscale commercial building in the district. The store is expected to be surrounded by Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bentley showrooms. Moreover, neighboring stores will also include Cartier, Dior, and Hermes.

Wall Street analysts have assigned a PT of $225.13 with a 14.8% upside over the last closing price. Analysts’ ratings include 3 Buy, 1 Overweight, 9 Hold, two Underweight, and four Sell.

  • Tesla to open its first Korean showroom on November 29th

Tesla to open its first Korean showroom on November 29th

The U.S.-based electric carmaker Tesla Motors will open its first Korean showroom at the Starfield Hanam shopping mall in Gyeonggi Province, Nov. 29.

A Starfield Hanam official said he received an in-house notice of the Tesla showroom opening date.

“However, the opening date may be moved up or delayed depending on Tesla’s preparations,” he added.

Starfield Hanam, which had its grand opening on Sept. 9, is the largest shopping complex in Korea built as a joint venture between retail giant Shinsegae and U.S.-based shopping mall management company Taubman’s regional affiliate Taubman Asia.

Before the grand opening, Tesla said Aug. 31 in a press release it would open its first Korean showroom on the second floor of the mall.

The showroom is currently under construction, covered with a screen to hide the interior. However, Tesla has reportedly completed the ground construction for a charging station on the mall’s second-floor parking lot.

    The showroom will present Tesla’s Model S 90D, a full-size all-electric five-door luxury sedan.

When the model was introduced in 2012, it received a perfect 5.0 from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) car safety rating. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official range for the 2012 Model S equipped with an 85kWh battery pack is 426 kilometers.

Tesla’s official webpage said the current Model S 90D’s range is 512 kilometers.

Tesla has already received approval for emissions and noise standards from the Ministry of Environment, and is preparing for another approval with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT). It is expected to take about two weeks to get MOLIT approval.

Tesla is also preparing to open its second Korean showroom in Gangnam, southern Seoul.

It reportedly signed a lease to rent a building in Cheongdam-dong on Sept. 1. It will use the building’s basement, first and second floors until Aug. 31, 2021.

The Gangnam showroom is also currently under construction and Tesla officials visited the site last week to monitor the construction process.

Tesla also announced last week via an email interview with ZDNet Korea, an IT-focused online newspaper, its plan to establish charging infrastructure in Korea.

“Tesla is reviewing its plan to build a few supercharging stations in Seoul,” Atsuko Doi, Tesla’s head of communications for Asia Pacific, was quoted as saying.

“We are discussing how to rent the sites for the charging stations.”
