Siam Discovery Launched Year-End Campaign to Spread the Love and Spirit of Sharing

Siam Piwat, the owner and operator of Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery, invested over 30 million baht in the greatest year-end marketing campaign, which integrates the customer-centric strategy. Interpreting the festive season as the time when people send their love and good wishes to others, the Company launched “Citizen of Love: It’s time to Give Good Love” campaign.

The shoppers will not only find a wide array of gift items for themselves and loved ones, but also enjoy a big promotion that serves the government’s Shop for the Nation campaign. To add the sentimental value to the campaign, Siam Discovery hosts an art exhibition displaying the genius of the late King Bhumibol, including his great love and generosity for his citizen. In response to the royal wish on endless giving, Siam Discovery will organize “Gifts for Them” CSR activity that gives the gifts to 300 children in Community Children Foundation (CCF) under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. During the festive season, the shopping center expected to welcome 80,000 – 100,000 Thai and foreign shoppers a day.

Year-End Campaign: “Citizen of Love: It’s time to Give Good Love”

Mr. Charnchai Cherdchoowongthanakorn, Senior Executive Vice President – Retail Business Development, Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., said, ” In each year, December is considered the high season with the greatest spending. However, the shopping sentiment this year differs from the past. Siam Discovery, considering itself as a friend of shoppers, understood their feelings and translated the season of joy into the joy of sharing. It therefore hosts the integrated campaign called “Citizen of Love: It’s time to Give Good Love”. Siam Discovery started from creating its ambience, in which encourages everyone to participate under the concept of ‘exploration, creation, and cultivation’. In addition, it holds an art exhibition to commemorate the talent of H.M. the late King, who worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life of his people. He did this out of love and wanted nothing in return. Moreover, Siam Discovery offers Thai people a space to express their love and give the moral support to one another. The shoppers can take photos and share their love in the Living Room of Love. It also displays the art installation that presents the Royal Rainmaking Initiative Project and Reforestation Initiative Project. The exhibitions are open for the public to help them feel connected.”

Siam Discovery spent more than 30 million baht on “Citizen of Love: It’s time to Give Good Love” campaign, which includes the creation of shopping ambience, promotion and CSR activity. It expected to daily attract 80,000 – 100,000 Thai and foreign shoppers on average, with 50:50 ratio. The survey revealed that 80% of foreign tourists are Free Individual Traveler (FIT), which are considered high-quality tourists with high purchasing power.

Launching a big promotion to boost the holiday shopping in response to Shopping for the Nation campaign

Siam Piwat responds to the government’s economic stimulus policy that encourages the people to shop and use the tax invoice of December 2016 for the tax deduction. Expecting an influx of shoppers, Siam Piwat prepared the staff and equipment to facilitate the shoppers who request the formal tax invoice and to ensure the fast and convenient service.

In addition, Siam Piwat holds special promotion, to create the unique shopping experience at Siam Paragon shopping mall , Siam Center , and Siam Discovery from now – December 31, 2016. Spending at least 15,000 baht, the shoppers will receive Siam Gift Card worth 1,500 baht. VIZ cardholders and the members of Siam Discovery Mobile Application will enjoy more benefits

“Gifts for Them” CSR activity for the disadvantaged

Miss Chanisa Kaewruen, Senior  Deputy Managing Director of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., revealed, “Besides the value-added promotion, Siam Discovery infuses the sentimental value into the customers’ mind because we believe that our customers care for the society and wish to share good things with the people around them. We therefore come up with “Gifts for Them” activity, inviting the customers to spread the joy to others by giving the gifts to 300 children in Community Children Foundation (CCF) under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The customers can buy gift items for the children on 50% discount and Siam Discovery will subsidize the other half. We will host an event where the donors can present the gifts to the children themselves.

In preparing the product  to serve the customer demand, Siam Discovery, with the expertise in matching the right products for each lifestyle, has selected the perfect gift items for each target segment. It also displays the recommended gift items on each floor.   To increase the value to the gifts, it offers the personal gift wrapping as the customized service in addition to the regular gift wrapping service.

In “Think Giving”, Siam Discovery offers a wide variety of products from the Royal Project Foundation, PatPat shop under Chaipattana Foundation, Phufa and Doi Kham as the special gifts for special people. The event will take place on the 5th floor from now until February 19, 2017.

Customer-centric marketing focuses on capturing the customers’ interest. Siam Discovery therefore launched the marketing promotion activities that add the sentimental value to the shoppers. It expected that “Citizen of Love: It’s time to Give Good Love” campaign will not only increase the sales volume by 15 – 20%, but also make the holiday shopping more meaningful and bring the spirit of giving to this season of joy.

  • ‘Forever in Thai Hearts,’ an exhibition hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Culture

‘Forever in Thai Hearts,’ an exhibition hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Culture

Thailand’s Ministry of Culture, assigned by the government, joins hand with Siam Paragon to host ‘Forever in Thai Hearts,’ a photo exhibition portraying historical moments of Thai nation to mark the Royal Funeral of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Locals and visitors are invited to join a vowing campaign by recording their pledges to carry on his legacy and royal teaching. All images and video clips are to be included in ‘The People’s Archives’ memorial book. This exhibition runs from 19-30 November 2016 at Lifestyle Hall, 2nd Floor, Siam Paragon.

On this occasion, General Thanasak Pratimaprakorn, Deputy Prime Minister, presided over the opening ceremony on 19 November 2016. Joining the opening ceremony were Vira Rojpojchanarat, Minister of Culture, Chadatip Chutrakul, Executive of Siam Paragon, Thanpuying Angkarb Boonyatthiti, Khunying Charmaree Snidvongs Na Ayudhya and M.L. Kwanthip Devakul. As the highlight of the opening ceremony, the song ‘Kao Dern Tor Pai ’ or ‘Moving Ahead’ composed by Dolchai Boonyaratavej with the melody written by Pongpoon Pibulkasetkij was performed by Chitralada School Choir to encourage everyone in moving forward with conscience and hope.

General Thanasak Pratimaprakorn, Deputy Prime Minister, pointed out that “In making a memorial book titled ‘The People’s Archives’ and a documentary ‘Forever in Thai Hearts,’ the government has assigned Ministry of Culture to collect images and video clips contributed by public sectors, various organizations and medias. Aiming to preserve and publish Thailand’s historical moments related to the passing of the late monarch, highly revered by all Thais, we have received great feedback from people across the country. Over 30,000 images and video clips including images reflecting the sense of deepest respect and appreciation to His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, images of mourners from near and far traveling to pay their respects before the royal remains as well as messages of condolences and heartfelt gratitude were shared via our provided platforms. Hence, we have also chosen images uploaded to Facebook , Line application and email to be exhibited at ‘Forever in Thai Hearts’ exhibition at The Bangkok National Museum since 28 October 2016.

“To offer wider opportunities for both Thais and foreigners in expressing their boundless gratitude to the late monarch and witnessing these historical moments, Ministry of Culture together with Siam Paragon has organized ‘Forever in Thai Hearts’ exhibition at Lifestyle Hall, Siam Paragon. On this occasion, 100 unseen images are specially curated to be on display.

Joining the Ministry of Culture, Mayuree Chaipromprasith, executive of Siam Paragon, added, “The passing of our revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the greatest loss and despair in the lives of all Thais nationwide. As his royal subjects, we would like to express our deep-felt gratitude and humble loyalty by organising ‘Forever in Thai Hearts’ photo exhibition. This exhibition narrates the story of a deep mutual bond between the longest serving monarch and his people through images and films portraying his lifelong works and devotion. We also would like to invite everyone to join a vowing campaign by recording the ‘do-good-deeds, follow-the-King’s-teaching’ videos, all of which are to be included in ‘The People’s Archives’ memorial book. In this exhibition, each participant will receive a portrait of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.”

Nopakun Kunsujarid, the President of Bangkok Photographic Society, one of photographers whose image was included in the exhibition said, “I took this picture on 22 October 2016 when massive mourners filled Sanam Luang to capacity in order to join the historic mass singing event being filmed by MC Chatrichalerm Yukol. That heartfelt tribute to the Late King on that day was another momentous day in our history that Thai people across the nation united as one. From this picture, many mourners are seen holding both new and old portraits of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. People were smiling and being helpful to each other. The passing of our revered king united everyone together again. As a photographer, I intended to communicate these emotions as best as I could.

Adul Tanthakosai, whose image was also on display stated, “This picture was taken on 14 November at the festival of the Illuminated Boat Procession known as the sacred ‘Lai Reua Fai’ festival in Nakon Panom Province. I was impressed by the unity of locals. Not only had they come to participate in the festival, but also to express their profound appreciation to His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej through lighted candles and the formation of Thai number ‘9’. Many people cannot travel to pay their final respect at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, so they took this chance to do their part in this festival as a token of humble loyalty.”

Tanakrit Kalaseranee, also added, “I wished to take pictures that demonstrate deepest emotion of mourners coming to pay their final respects to the royal remains as well as pictures of those working as volunteers, so I chose to capture moments from a prime spot inside the walls of Royal Palace where the majestic Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall stood tall as a background. This image was taken on 15 November 2016 and it truly conveys my true feeling. The image of students assisting elderly people on their wheelchairs portrays the value of togetherness, sincere gratitude and unconditional love we all share.

Please be invited to witness and be part of ‘The People’s Archives’ in remembrance of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej by joining the ‘Forever in Thai Hearts’ exhibition taking place on 19-30 November 2016 at Lifestyle Hall, 2nd Floor, Siam Paragon.

  • Jamie Oliver to announce its opening for the first Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Thailand

Jamie Oliver to announce its opening for the first Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Thailand

Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver is pleased to announce its opening head chef for the first Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Thailand, set to open in the fourth quarter of this year. Alex Barman, a dynamic and passionate chef with more than 11 years of culinary experience, will be leading the kitchen team as head chef of Jamie’s Italian Siam Discovery.

Born in North Wales, UK, Alex started working in restaurants at a young age while still studying, beginning his culinary career as a kitchen assistant in a local hotel restaurant, and then progressing to be a sous chef in a local bistro, and head chef for Whitbread Group in Cardiff. In 2010 he joined the Jamie’s Italian family in Cardiff as a commis chef, moving swiftly through the ranks and taking his first head chef role for Jamie’s Italian in Cheltenham and Birmingham. He was also a member of the training support team for the opening of Jamie’s Italian Westfield, Stratford near the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. Alex moved to Singapore three and a half years ago to open the first Jamie’s Italian in Asia in VivoCity, where he started as the sous chef and was quickly promoted to head chef. In 2015, he moved to Bali as head chef for the new restaurant, Jamie’s Italian Kuta Beach.

“Everything we serve is made with care,” Alex Barman, the head chef of Jamie’s Italian Siam Discovery said. “Good food is as the heart of everything we do. We are fully committed to supporting Jamie’s fight for better food worldwide, and his mission to make good food accessible for everyone.”

As with all Jamie’s Italian outlets, the Siam Discovery restaurant will remain committed to sourcing only the best freerange, sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients. The restaurant will also work closely with Thai farmers to showcase local, responsibly grown produce.

Alex said: “One of the most exciting parts of the job so far has been sourcing ingredients that fit in with Jamie Oliver’s food ethos. It’s not always easy, but it is always enjoyable as I have been able to meet some really amazing people. I am very passionate about sourcing and working with great local suppliers who are as passionate about great ingredients and the food ethos behind them, as I am. I’m really looking forward to seeing these ingredients feature throughout our menu.”

“Since moving to Asia I’ve always wanted to work in Thailand and experience the culture, people and amazing local food on a regular basis, not just for a holiday, as you never really get to experience the real country and people on short breaks. It’s such a diverse and dynamic country with big differences from one province to another, making it very exciting to travel around and experience all the country has to offer. I love cities and actively seek to work and live in big, bustling, dynamic cities in which Bangkok has to be one of the best so far I’ve lived in.”

Alex said: “Jamie’s Italian food is simple, rustic and inspired by dishes eaten all over Italy, delivered to the local market at affordable prices, which means it’s great for any occasion. I will also be creating some fantastic daily specials, maximising ingredients I can get at short notice from local markets and suppliers. I’m really looking forward to using some of the interesting products that are available here to create some brilliant dishes, with a new brigade of talented local chefs, and seeing our first guests enjoy our food.”

The gathering guest list included Ornchuma Durongdej, Hathairat Fingerhooth, Tada Varich, Pichamon and Pimpisa Chamanant, Monlissa Leenuttapong, ML Samornlada Chompol, Thitipong Lororasert etc. All of them were welcome by Siam Discovery’s executives, Chanisa Kaewreun and Kriangkrai Rulkhachantrkul. All the guests got updated on news of hot lifestyles: art and design from Phantipa Thanchookiet of Likay Bindery, travel from Kanitkul Natrbutr, and fashion trends from Nichakul Kitiyanubhongse of Harper’s Bazaar Magazine. A special fashion show was provided, presenting a wide range of lifestyle products.

Ms. Chanisa Kaewreun, Executive of Siam Piwat Company Limited, said, “Best of The Season, You Can Grab and Go campaign has been initiated by Siam Discovery, which acts as a shopping market that sells every kind of design items, or a design supermarket. In fact, it is acknowledged among shoppers that Siam Discovery will be a very first choice when thinking about where to shop for any items with style and packed with creativity.

“That’s why Siam Discovery is gathering top curators who have expertise in a variety of lifestyles and asks them to analyze trends and global movements in terms of design. Then, they will choose what items to become the latest trends in the world. Moreover, we are holding a number of workshops that feature different subjects: Art Design and Decoration coming with “Design Experiment Market” theme from 3 to 16 October 2016, Travel and Play with “The Wanderlust Experiment Market” theme from 17 to 31 October 2016, Fashion and Accessory representing “The Fashion Forward Experiment Market” theme from 1 to 8 November 2016. And closing with Sport and Adventure which represents “Active Experiment Market” theme from 9 to 20 November 2016. Siam Discovery will present a range of products according to these themes, available upon timelines. As well as workshops that are based on each of the themes for the four months, from now to the year-end 2016.”

Nichakul Kitiyanubhongse said, “The hottest trend in fashion of the moment is a modern vintage style, which has lasted for ages. At the same time, a vintage style is growing in popularity. When wearing vintage attire, it’s no need to wear heavy make-up or dramatic hairstyle. It really appears an amazing trend.”

Phantipa Thanchookiet said, “We can see two hot key trends in design and decoration in 2016 and 2017. One is design work friendly to the environment. This year, the eco trend becomes popular again. People are interested in things for their daily use, the ones with creativity and more eco-friendliness. Especially for furniture and home decorations. Let’s say which are becoming popular will have an eco-concept. The other is handicraft, which more plays a prominent role in creation in terms of design. Or even daily use products such as notebooks that can be decorated to tell the identity of an owner.”

Kanitkul Natrbutr said, “I enjoy traveling and love to have adventures in new places to explore new experiences. And for each of my trips, I always blend in, my personality, with it. This is shown through my traveling stuff, from backpack and shoulder bag to water bottle and shoes or even outfits. After I had visited throughout the country and explored some neighboring countries, I feel like riding a bicycle wherever I go. That’s the beginning of my traveling together with my bicycle. This way makes me expand my horizons and have a close relationship with the nature. It gives me a unique travel experience, different from other kinds of travel. With a bicycle, I can find any places that I cannot by car. Or to enjoy being in the sunshine and the breeze, the surrounding nature that I can see with my eyes and feel with my heart.”

Come play with us. Enjoy “Best of The Season, You Can Grab and Go” campaign which offers a variety of themes suitable for every lifestyle. Available from now to year-end 2016 at Siam Discovery The Exploratorium.

DTAC service center flagship store ‘dInfinite’ at Siam Paragon

The new dtac service center flagship store, dInfinite, was launched at Siam Paragon Department Store with the concept ‘the endless digital experiences’. The store has been re-designed to enhance the customer experience through the use of digital services.

The service center was designed by Whitespace Ltd., a professional retail design company. The key service area has been arranged to serve two main functions: counter service and consultation. The layout reflects of how retail stores have changed overtime; the transaction counter is no longer a key area as e-service, Speedy Queue, allows customers to easily queue online and to check out anywhere in the store.

Cutting-edge smart phone models are available for customers to interact with at the Smart Table. The latest trends of gadgets and accessories are also available for customers to tryout in the Experience Corner.

  • Siam Center Unleashed the Creativity in “Siam Center Art Traction” Art Exhibition

Siam Center Unleashed the Creativity in “Siam Center Art Traction” Art Exhibition

Siam Center, the Ideopolis, sparks the creative ideas in “Siam Center Art Traction”, on the 1st and 2nd floor of Siam Center until July 2016. The exhibition displays a wide range of well-selected art pieces by several artists from various fields of art, such as world-renowned Malaysian artists Jun Ong, well-known Thai artists like Jitsing Somboon, Anon Pairot and Rukkit Kuanhawate, and young artists from four leading universities in Thailand. Last but not least, the art lovers will meet Mr. P Water, the art installation by Propaganda.

Chanisa Kaewruen, Senior Deputy Managing Director for Marketing Events and Business Relations, Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., revealed that Siam Center has played the leading role as the center of arts, fashion, technology and lifestyle. It always seeks for the world-class work of art to inspire people. Now, Siam Center is hosting Siam Center Art Traction between June and July 2016 to display the masterpieces of famous artists in different fields. The exhibition starts with Jun Ong and his PLASTIC PARTITIONS, using mixed art to serve as the board of idea. It displays questions and let the visitors give comments by pressing the button on LED screen, which projects the different levels of brightness. When the visitor presses the button three times, the blinking light will appear. It means the visitor absolutely agrees with the question. If pressed twice, the button will show the still light, which means the visitor simply agrees. If pressed once, the button will project the dim light, which represents the visitor’s disagreement.

    11. Artpiece from Museum road selected by Jitsing Somboon

Two more exhibitions are held to promote the talent of students from the leading universities. First, Jewelry Degree Showcase by Silpakorn University displays the theses of senior students of Jewelry Design Department, Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University. Moreover, the art workshops are weekly conducted on cold enamel, wire bending, drawing, gold leaf covering, knitting, crochet, stamping letters on metal plate and making wool accessories respectively. This exhibition will take place until July 31, 2016, at the area connected to BTS on the 2nd floor of Siam Center. Live Design Functional Art Project by Silpakorn University exhibits the theses of the senior students of Applied Art Study, Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, between June 23 and July 31, 2016, on the 1st floor of Siam Center.

Another must-visit exhibition is “Museum road selected by Jitsing Somboon”, which takes place until July 31, 2016, on the 1st floor of Siam Center. Jitsing Somboon, Creative Consultant of Greyhound, selected these impressive items from the fashion theses of senior students from four leading universities, namely Silpakorn University, Srinakharinwirot University, Rangsit University and Bangkok University. He admired the distinctiveness of these exhibits because they combined both old and new techniques. For the materials, some students selected the forgotten materials while others used new and bold materials to inspire the visitors. Therefore, the fashion items in this showcase were something beyond clothing. They were art objects displayed in one-sided glass cabinet covered with wrinkled plastic. He got this inspiration while taking a tour in museums and browsing through art pieces. That’s why he would like to reflect the value of the students’ work and their effort in an easily accessible way.

In addition, Siam Center presents Art Installation by Rukkit Kuanhawate on the 1st floor of Siam Center and Donate It Forward by Anon Pairot, together with his partners, to encourage everyone in the society to do the good deeds. Moreover, the famous Mr. P by Propaganda comes back with his new look called Mr. P Water as an eye-catching art installation that welcomes everyone at Parc Paragon.

  • Bangkok 18th most attractive retail city

Bangkok 18th most attractive retail city

Bangkok ranks 18th in terms of international retailer attractiveness, just ahead of Las Vegas, in a new report from real estate consultant JLL. “The Destination Retail 2016” report also revealed that Asia boasts five out of the 10 most appealing destinations for international retailers globally.

According to JLL’s report, which for the first time provides a global ranking of 140 cities by their appeal to cross-border retailers, Hong Kong is second only to London in popularity. Also among the top 10 are Shanghai, Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo.

Boosted by rising income levels and growing tourism numbers from across the world, Bangkok has attracted many international brands, such as H&M, Zara Home, Pull & Bear and Victoria’s Secret. Recently, retailers such as Dior Homme, Pierre Herme, A Bathing Ape and Tiffany & Co have started trading in the city. The Ratchaprasong area is Bangkok’s retail centre and attracts many locals as well as tourists, thanks to its central location and adjacent skytrain. It houses 11 shopping centres, including Siam Paragon, CentralWorld and Siam Square One.

The recently completed EmQuartier, Central Westgate and CentralFestival EastVille, all outside the city centre, are providing new attractive opportunities to international retailers.

Bangkok’s retail landscape continues to diversify, with renovations at Siam Discovery and several suburban CentralPlaza retail stores, the opening of HaHa Market and the continued success of Asiatique The Riverfront, a combined shopping centre and night bazaar.

Cities in Asia-Pacific are the most appealing destinations for luxury retailers to set up shop. Seven Asia-Pacific cities are among the global top 10: Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Beijing, Osaka and Taipei.

“Hong Kong remains Asia’s leading luxury shopping destination with many retailers using it as a springboard for expansion into China,” said James Assersohn, retail director for Asia-Pacific at JLL. “While there has been a noticeable slowdown in luxury sales due to China’s slowing economy and the government’s anti-corruption crackdown,Hong Kong continues to attract many high-spending Chinese tourists,” he said.

More broadly, the dominance of Asian cities in the index highlights the attractiveness of the region to retailers, thanks to its burgeoning middle-class and growing levels of affluence, said Mr Assersohn.

Tokyo, which takes fourth place globally, has seen a revival in luxury retailer’s demand for high quality real estate as a result of an improving economic climate and rising tourism numbers. The yen, which has devalued by nearly 30% since 2012, has made Japan a magnet for retail tourism across the region. International visitors to Japan rose 47% in 2015 with the largest contingent from China. A weaker yen is also encouraging Japanese to make the most of their luxury purchasing power at home.

Shanghai, meanwhile, at number six in the ranking, is catching up fast on Hong Kong to become one of Asia’s leading luxury retail destinations and remains China’s premier shopping destination.

“Thanks to a diverse economy and wealthy consumer base, Shanghai has become a favourite place for international brands to test the Chinese market and gain brand exposure,” said Mr Assersohn.

  • Revamped Siam Discovery to embrace ‘lifestyle’ concept

Revamped Siam Discovery to embrace ‘lifestyle’ concept

The 18-year-old mall in central Bangkok has been closed for a Bt4-billion overhaul since May and expects to reopen under the new title “Siam Discovery – The Exploratorium” next quarter.

“We want to create a unique shopping experience for all customers. To make the new Siam Discovery different from its neighbouring shopping malls Siam Center and Siam Paragon, we want to introduce a revolutionary new retail concept in Thailand,” said Chadatip Chutrakul, chief executive officer of Siam Piwat, which also owns and operates Siam Paragon and Siam Center.

To turn this shopping venue into a hybrid retail destination, Siam Piwat decided to ensure that its 40,000 square metres of retail space would offer a range of products and undertake sales and marketing strategies that would be more flexible and respond to customers’ demands.

Previously, Siam Discovery hosted at least 120 retail tenants.

After the reopening, there will be hundreds of categories and more than 5,000 international and local brands on offer.

“We invited [Japanese design studio] Nendo to provide the inspirational design concept for Siam Discovery because Siam Piwat looks at the future from a global perspective rather than just the potential of the Thai market,” Chadatip said.

To turn this vision into reality, the Siam Discovery renovation was overseen by Oki Sato, one of the world’s top designers.

“Our role as a retailer has advanced to another level and become one of managing visitors’ experiences and emotions at the destination, rather than just one of managing products, categories and displays,” Chadatip stressed.

Besides being Nendo’s largest project in Thailand, this is the first major facelift of the 18-year old shopping complex. The aim is to cash in on the potential growth in shopping and retail markets in Thailand following the implementation of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) early this year.

Chadatip said the 2 million square metres comprising the Siam area was considered one of top-ranked retail destinations in Bangkok, which annually attracts more than 200,000 visitors. The number of foreign-tourist arrivals is expected to rise, particularly after the full implementation of the AEC.

Give this potential, one year after the reopening, Siam Discovery is expected to welcome 100,000 visitors a day, of whom about 65 per cent will be local shoppers while the remaining 30-35 per cent will be foreign tourists.

“We aim to double our sales revenue within one year compared the sales in the year before this major renovation,” she said.

Siam Piwat targets recovering the cost of this renovation within five to six year as it believes that this is a long-term investment. By the end of this year, the company hopes to see at least 10-per-cent revenue growth, partly driven by the new Siam Discovery.
