  • McDonald’s Singapore sleepwear deal crashes app

McDonald’s Singapore sleepwear deal crashes app

A deal by McDonald’s Singapore offering free sleepwear along with McNuggets and McWings delivery orders crashed the brand’s delivery app and site within an hour, angering customers.

The deal went live on Monday October at 6pm, offering a set of limited-edition free-sized men’s or women’s pajamas with a bonus sleeping mask for customers who entered a promo code.

Online commentators blamed McDonald’s for being insufficiently prepared for the surge in traffic, with some suspecting the firm had deliberately taken down the site rather than admit the sleepwear was out of stock.

Fans are getting a second chance to purchase the limited edition loungewear later today.

Indian lingerie retailer Zivame has raised about US$8.6 million to fund expansion.

The funds were raised through Allana Investment and Trading Company, in a round led by existing investor Zodius Technology and individual investors.

The new capital will be used for store expansion, technology augmentation, product development and omnichannel strategy. Zivame now has more than 30 offline retail stores, and aims to expand to more than 60 in the next year.

“The funding will enable us to further enhance our footprint and leadership in existing and newer markets as we continue to build on our mission to be the destination for women for all her intimate needs,” said Amisha Jain, Zivame CEO.

“We continue to build the category as the Indian lingerie market is largely unorganised and under-served.”

The company plans to a larger fundraising round in coming months.

Founded in 2011 as a marketplace for lingerie brands, Zivame has expanded into fashion apparel, activewear, sleepwear, and shapewear as well as developed its private labels including Penny and Coucou.

Under Armour Thailand eyes 20 per cent sales growth

Under Armour Thailand is targeting a 20-per-cent sales increase in the kingdom, according to the brand’s exclusive Asian distributor Triple Pte Ltd.

The company is focusing on footwear sales to follow up on its gains in the apparel sector in a sporting goods market expected to see 5–7 per cent growth this year. It will also offer a wider range of branded products, including sleepwear.

“Under Armour is a relatively new brand in Thailand, and it has huge potential to spread its wings here,” said company CEO Michael Binger during a visit to Thailand last week. “We want to grow our footwear business at a faster pace than in the past and expect footwear sales to increase to 35 per cent of total sales by 2020, up from 25 per cent last year.”

As part of this year’s expansion plans, Triple Pte is planning exploratory Under Armour Thailand outlets in the country’s north, with a shop-in-shop scheduled for the Mall Nakhon Ratchasima as well as a potential new shop in popular tourist destination Chiang Mai. It will also launch another branch in suburban Bangkok.

“We see huge potential in the sporting goods business in Thailand,” said Binger, “and we feel confident in our capability to propel Under Armour to success here because we are an alternative brand for people looking for innovative performance shoes.”

Thailand is Under Armour’s second fastest-growing market in Southeast Asia after Singapore.
