    Grab launches ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ option

    Grab has expanded its fintech offer with “Buy Now Pay Later” facility and an online store check-out plugin.

    Through its joint venture with Credit Saison, the ride-hailing platform offers a post-paid payment facility which allows customers to pay for Grab services at the end of the month, without additional fees.

    This is geared towards consumers who face exceptional expenses, but are keen to avoid being hit with high credit card or personal loan interest payments.

    The platform will also launch another pay-later product, which will allow consumers to shop online immediately, but pay for their purchases in installments.

    Only Grab’s most creditworthy customers can use these two products. Credit risk is based on their tenure on the Grab platform, frequency of use and spending patterns.

    Grab has been boosting its financial services in Southeast Asia in recent years. Its GrabPay service has teamed with e-commerce platforms such as Qoo10 and 11Street.

    It has recently signed with Adyen, Boku, iPay88, Dragonpay, Cathay Cineplexes, and SM Cinema in the Philippines.

    SM Cinema adds more cinema screens nationwide

    Beyond technology, SM Cinema extends its world-class experience to persons with disability (PWD) by providing dedicated areas for their convenience. SM Cinema also holds separate screenings of sensory friendly movies for those with special needs such as the blind and deaf, as well as children with autism and down syndrome.

    “We are very pleased to bring state-of-the-art cinema technology and a whole new movie experience out into the suburbs and provincial areas. We remain focused in providing the complete entertainment experience to every corner in the country,” SM Lifestyle Entertainment President Edgar Tejerero said.

    For 2015, SM Cinema added four fully digitized cinemas in SM Center Angono in Rizal, its 55th branch. With digital surround-sound technology, the cinemas in Angono promise to deliver an optimum movie-watching experience. Each theatre will cater to 200 patrons in a stadium-like seating, making certain that all patrons will enjoy the view from any seat they choose.

    In Cebu, SM Cinema recently added the first laser projection system in Southeast Asia in its large screen cinema at the recently opened SM Seaside City, Cebu. This format uses the Christie® 6P laser projection system and features a super-sized screen almost 30% larger than the regular cinema screen size. The Christie® 6P laser produces the brightest images with 80% illumination and offers the best 3D platform that accurately reproduces the colors of the actual movie set, developing the most immersive cinema experience. The SM Large Screen Cinema also proudly uses the DOLBY ATMOS Sound System and the top-of-the-line Christie Vive Speakers, its audience fully immersed in surround-sound technology. SM Large Screen Cinema will house 351 guests in stadium-like seats.

    Earlier this year, SM Cinema also opened in Cabanatuan City through SM Megacenter and SM Cabanatuan; in Rizal Province through SM San Mateo and SM Angono; and in Caloocan through SM Sangandaan. SM Cinema also partnered with housing arm SM Development Corp to open its cinemas at Light Mall, the first theater available in an SM residential complex.

    Tejerero added that he is optimistic that ticket sales will be robust by the end of 2015 given blockbuster movies such as Heneral Luna, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, A Second Chance, Felix Manalo and movies shown during the Metro Manila Film Festival in December.

    SM Center Sangandaan opens

    SM Center Sangandaan has opened its doors – owner SM Prime’s 55th mall in the Philippines.

    It is SM Prime’s first mall in the populous City of Caloocan, one of the 16 cities within Metro Manila. The new mall provides an additional 38,622 sqm in gross floor area (GFA), giving SM Prime a total retail space of 6.8 million sqm, the largest mall footprint in the country.

    SM Center Sangandaan, strategically located along the busy intersection of Samson Rd and A. Mabini St in Sangandaan, will give SM Prime access to the northern tip of Metro Manila, bringing a unique shopping experience closer to the highly dense cities of Malabon, Navotas and Caloocan.

    “SM Center Sangandaan reflects SM Prime’s commitment to be part of the growth across communities. We are very pleased to open our first mall in Caloocan City which is a testament to the fact that Metro Manila is far from being saturated by modern retail facilities,” SM Prime president Hans T. Sy said.

    The mall opens its doors to a catchment of more than 1.5 million with 90 per cent of its space leased. Anchor tenants include SM Supermarket, SM Appliance Center, SM Cinema, Ace Hardware, BDO and Watsons.

    There are three levels of prime space which includes four cinema theaters with a total seating capacity of 824, and 493 parking slots.

    The mall’s facade features different shades of blue, gray and white, giving the exterior a quirky geometric visual design. The main interior features a high glass ceiling, complemented by white walls which maximises daylight and adds further dimension to the mall.

    SM Center Sangandaan is the fifth SM mall to be opened this year, after Cherry SM in Shaw Boulevard with a GFA of 24,165 sqm and SM City Cabanatuan, both of which opened this month. SM Seaside City Cebu is next, scheduled to open on November 27.

    By the end of 2015, SM Prime will have 56 malls in the Philippines and six in China.
