Clarke Quay’s CQ Unveils Exciting Revamp: 8 New Brands, Innovative Concepts & Pet-Friendly Spaces on the Horizon

Singapore-based mall CQ @ Clarke Quay, owned by CapitaLand, is undergoing revitalization with the introduction of eight new brands, which will join the establishment alongside additional activity spaces and updated programming.

Among the new additions are two food and beverage concepts. Waffle Up!, a waffle-on-a-stick brand, and Xiao Long Kan, a Sichuan hot pot chain, will bring their respective brands to Singapore for the first time. Waffle Up! will introduce its unique take on the popular breakfast dish, while Xiao Long Kan will offer visitors a Chengdu-style dining experience.

    Expanded Retail and Lifestyle Offerings

CQ @ Clarke Quay will also see an expansion in its retail and lifestyle offerings. Eco-apparel brand Esse is launching River’s Edge Abode, a pet-friendly, multi-concept fashion store that supports artisanal craftsmanship. Swapaholic, a local platform for circular fashion, is also introducing a concept for swapping and reselling pre-loved clothing. Additionally, Rhythm Room will open a hybrid dance studio, which will also serve as a social venue.

The mall will welcome Anytime Fitness, a 24-hour fitness center that will also host outdoor classes. This new fitness hub will stand alongside Revl’s strength and conditioning studio. Elixir Esports is also set to debut its largest 24-hour outlet at CQ this year, complete with gaming facilities, food and drink options, and esports tournaments. Lastly, a dedicated space for pets, called Furry Playzone, will be added to the mix.

    New Entertainment Options

Zouk, the iconic anchor of CQ @ Clarke Quay’s nightlife, is expected to launch a new day-to-night lifestyle and entertainment concept.

These changes follow the forthcoming closure of American restaurant chain Hooters’ sole Clarke Quay outlet, which concludes nearly three decades of operation at the location.

Presently, the riverfront complex hosts approximately 70 tenants across various sectors including food and beverage, retail, fitness, and entertainment. The ongoing changes reflect the mall’s commitment to adapt to changing consumer trends and the evolving Singapore lifestyle landscape.

  • McDonald’s to sell Hong Kong retail spaces valued at US$153 million

McDonald’s to sell Hong Kong retail spaces valued at US$153 million

Fast-food giant McDonald’s has announced plans to sell eight top-tier retail properties in Hong Kong, collectively estimated to be worth HK$1.2 billion (US$152.89 million). Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), appointed as the exclusive agent for the sale, reported the news earlier this week.

The properties will be sold via public tender, with the process scheduled to conclude on September 16. Buyers will have the flexibility to purchase the properties either separately or as a comprehensive portfolio. All the properties come with enduring leases with McDonald’s, which adds to their appeal.

Previously, there had been reports that McDonald’s was considering selling all of its 23 stores in Hong Kong, the total market value of which is roughly HK$3 billion (US$382 million). The current sale of eight stores represents the first phase of this broader asset disposal strategy.

This move is part of McDonald’s larger efforts to refine its asset base in the region. In 2017, McDonald’s sold its 20-year master franchise rights for China and Hong Kong to a consortium led by Citic Group and private equity firm Carlyle, while maintaining ownership of its real estate portfolio.

  • Twitter users get the ability to record and share Spaces on iPhone

Twitter users get the ability to record and share Spaces on iPhone

If you’ve been using Spaces on Twitter, you’ll be happy to know that the feature has just been improved with the addition of the ability to record and share them. For the time being, the new and improved Spaces are available for some Twitter users on iPhone, but the new enhancements will slowly expand to all other users in the coming weeks.

Starting today, some Twitter hosts will be able to record Spaces and share them across the social network, further extending the value of their work beyond live sessions. On top of that, followers will now be able to replay any of these recorded Spaces how many times they wish, as well as share them via their timelines.

Using the new record Spaces features is quite easy, as you’ll only need to enable the “Record Space” setting before launching your content on the internet. Everyone participating will see a red REC button that will appear in the Space window, so they’ll know it’s being recorded.

Space recordings will be kept for 30 days after the initial broadcast, so hosts and their followers will be able to share them on Twitter. Although hosts can delete their recorded Spaces at any time they wish, Twitter will still keep a copy for 30-120 days.

  • Twitter may display your Twitter Spaces listener status

Twitter may display your Twitter Spaces listener status

Twitter Spaces is a fairly new addition to the popular bird-themed social media platform and was launched a few months ago in competition with the exploding Clubhouse app. Its function is very similar to Clubhouse: to provide voice chat rooms which people can host and join to have discussions about anything and everything. From music, to Bitcoin, or anime, or anything else—there’s a Twitter Space for every interest.

With Twitter Spaces growing in popularity, Twitter has been bringing new features to them—such as a variety of voice filters, web browser support, and easier management features for Space hosts. Yesterday, Twitter announced that it is also testing out the ability for Twitter users to display to their followers which Spaces they’re listening to.

Such a feature would be a further extension of the already existing ability to show your followers which Spaces you’re currently hosting, or even currently speaking in. If you’ve only joined a space a listener, however, your status as a listener is unable to be showed on your profile

As a listener, you have the ability to react to the conversation with emojis, follow along with live captions, as well as Tweet or send direct messages to the Space—so it would be a nice addition to have your listener status displayed on your profile, so that any interested followers can join and listen along with you. In the Twitter post announcing that the platform is working on implementing this feature, the company said that it was currently “experimenting with ways to help you discover more Spaces.”

This hints that it’s not a guarantee that we’ll be seeing it rolled out to all everyone on the platform in the future, and Twitter also asked for users to send over their thoughts on the matter. If the response is overwhelmingly positive, it’s most likely we’ll see the option to display our listener status in Twitter Spaces sometime in the future.
