  • Instagram starts rolling out customizable Story templates

Instagram starts rolling out customizable Story templates

Instagram is at it again, as the social app has launched a brand-new feature that allows its users to further customize Story templates. Starting today, Instagramers should start seeing multiple options that make it easier to create their own unique Stories via “Add Yours” templates.

The new “Add Yours” templates are easy to use and can be customized with GIFs, images, and text for a complete personalization experience. To start making your own Story, simply upload it and add whatever visual changes you think it’s suitable, including GIF, custom text, or even a picture from your phone’s gallery.

After you’re content with the results, you can tap on the “Add Yours Templates” sticker and choose whatever media elements you want to pin. These customizable templates can be shared but nothing that’s been added to them can be changed.

However, it’s possible to add to the templates on top of what’s already been included during the customization process. According to Instagram, the new feature is now rolling out globally on both Android and iOS devices, but it will take a few days for customizable “Add Yours” templates to show up for everyone, so be patient if you don’t see it in your app just yet.

  • Instagram now lets you pin posts and Reels to your profile

Instagram now lets you pin posts and Reels to your profile

On Twitter and TikTok, you have this cool feature to ‘pin’ certain posts on your profile. The pinned items will stay on top of your posts, and whenever a user visits your profile, these will be the first items they see. So, you get to present your profile with the exact highlights you want people to notice. And now, this cool feature just came to Instagram as well.

As Instagram announced, it’s rolling out a “pin” option, which will enable you to pin up to three posts or Reels on your profile. The pinned objects will appear at the top of your profile grid and will remain over the rest of your posts.

But how to pin a post or a Reel to your Instagram profile? Well, to do that, simply choose what you want to pin and tap on the three dots located at the top-right corner of the publication. After that, tap on “Pin to your profile.”

Now, if you return to your profile, you will see the post at the top-left corner of your grid with a white pin on it. Keep in mind that if you pin more posts, the already pinned ones will be shifted to the right, so the order of attachment matters.

However, Instagram introducing such a feature doesn’t come as a surprise. We already knew that such an option was coming.

  • Instagram could let you react with a voice message to a Story

Instagram could let you react with a voice message to a Story

Instagram is allegedly working on a new Snapchat-like way for you to respond to your friends’ Stories. According to Alessandro Paluzzi (a developer who discovers upcoming new features by reverse engineering apps), Instagram is working on a feature that will allow users to create voice messages as another way to react to Instagram Stories.

In a tweet, Alessandro Paluzzi shared an image coming from Instagram Stories. In Paluzzi’s screenshot, we can see that there is a new microphone icon located in the area where the Story replies are situated, which will most likely allow you to record a voice message and then send it as a reaction to an Instagram Story.

It should be noted that although Alessandro Paluzzi has found the voice message reaction feature in the code of the Instagram app, this does not mean that Instagram will release the feature. Sometimes developers create a feature that, for some reason, they don’t implement into their application. There is also no word from Instagram about this potential feature.

The new reply category that Instagram is developing is another proof that Instagram is trying to make its platform better. As we previously reported, Instagram no longer sends a direct message to a Story’s author when you like a Story. The change was made because Instagram wanted to make the DMs more focused on conversations between you and your loved ones.

  • On Instagram, you can now send and receive private Story likes without piling up unnecessary DMs

On Instagram, you can now send and receive private Story likes without piling up unnecessary DMs

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced on Twitter that Instagram is introducing a new feature called “Private Story Likes,” which allows Instagram users to like a Story without the platform sending a direct message to the Story’s author.

Before the Private Story Likes feature, to respond to a Story you could only send a direct message or an emoji reaction to the creator of the Story and when you reacted to someone’s Story, they always received a response in their DM inbox.

Users who have the Private Story Likes feature may now notice a new heart icon located between the Send Message field and the paper airplane sharing button when watching someone’s Story.

Also, the likes you receive or give on stories will be private and won’t have public counts, which means that only you will be able to see who liked your Story. If you want to see who liked your Story, you need to go to the viewer sheet of that particular Story, and there you will see a heart icon next to every viewer who liked your Story.

According to Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s idea for the Private Story Likes feature is for ‘people to express more support to each other’ and also to ‘clean up DMs a little bit.’ Adam Mosseri explained that Instagram’s goal is to make DMs more focused on conversations between you and your friends.

  • TikTok is now working on an Instagram-Story-like feature

TikTok is now working on an Instagram-Story-like feature

TikTok was an exception to the fact all social media platforms have been getting some sort of an Instagram-Story-like feature, but this is no longer the case. TikTok will now be getting a Story-like feature too.

Matt Navarra was the first one to reveal the company was working on a Stories feature earlier on Twitter. Currently, all the mainstream social media platforms have a form of Stories – a disappearing post that stays up for 24 hours on your account.

The fact TikTok is developing the popular feature has been confirmed now by a representative of the company, stated The Verge. The feature will be simply called “TikTok Stories” and will work similarly to the Stories on Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat.

The published Stories will be visible in a newly-added slide-over sidebar in the TikTok app, and you will be able to see Stories by the accounts you follow on TikTok for 24 hours before they automatically disappear. Of course, reactions and comments to Stories will also be present. And, just like Instagram, tapping on a user’s profile picture on TikTok will load a Story if they currently have one active.

This will be a new way you can interact with your fans, claims TikTok. You will be able to create a new Story by a “create” button that will be available on the sidebar, and as usual, you will be able to write captions, put music and text on. Quite understandably, Stories on TikTok will need to be videos and not a still image.

At the moment, there’s no clear indication when the new feature will be released to the general public.

  • Instagram’s newest feature is all about GIFs

Instagram’s newest feature is all about GIFs

Instagram is one of the many social services that allows its users to add GIFs to their posts, but that’s where anything GIF-related stops. Let’s say your friend posts an animated sticker in stories and you wish to reply with a GIF. Well, that’s not possible, or at least it wasn’t until today.

Earlier today, Instagram announced that users can now reply to their friends’ stories using GIFs pulled from GIPHY. In order to take advantage of the new feature, Instagram users must update their apps via the App Store or Google Play Store.

Judging by the number of replies Instagram’s tweet received soon after the announcement, the ability to reply to stories with GIFs is a welcome addition to the service. Make sure to update your app to try it out now.

Meanwhile, Instagram confirmed last week that it’s testing reactions to direct messages, another long-awaited feature that we might get in the not so distant future. Of course, these are the improvements that we know of, but there might be others in the pipeline.

  • Spotify now lets users share music on Facebook Stories

Spotify now lets users share music on Facebook Stories

Spotify has just made it possible for people listening to music to share it on Facebook Stories. If you want your friends and followers to know what songs you like, you can now share it on Facebook Stories and viewers will hear a 15-second preview before tapping to listen.

Here is how you can do that: tap “Share” when viewing the track on Spotify, select Facebook, customize your Story, and post it to your followers. As mentioned earlier, your followers will get a 15-second preview that they can listen to, but they can also tap “Play on Spotify” if they want to hear more.

The new feature is a logical step forward and an upgrade from the similar option that artists and their teams have been using for quite a while to promote their tracks, albums, playlists, podcasts, and more.

For the time being, the preview feature will only play when a single track is shared to Stories. However, if you want to share other content like albums, playlists, or your profile, your followers will have the option to tap directly into that content on Spotify, but they won’t hear a preview.

  • New Instagram feature turns your Story into a sing-along

New Instagram feature turns your Story into a sing-along

Remember when Instagram was known for its photo filters? Back in the day, when Instagram added a new filter to the app, it was a newsworthy story. In 2016, the site added its Stories feature (copied from Snapchat) and last year Instagram had more than one billion monthly active users. Facebook bought Instagram for approximately $1 billion back in 2012, and daddy’s deep pockets allow Instagram to continue developing new features.

For example, Instagram revealed that users can now automatically add song lyrics to a Story. To do this, they will have to add a music sticker to their story and search for a song. If lyrics are available for the song selected, the user will be able to choose from different fonts and designs for the words to the song. Members will also be able to edit which part of the song to play on their Stories. Once someone selects that Story to view, the lyrics will appear automatically. If someone taps on the lyrics, they will be able to hear the song continue playing and learn more about the artist who sings it. Before this feature was added, an Instagram user could add music to a Story, but if he wanted the lyrics to appear, they would have to be typed out by the member.

The new feature is available in all markets that support the use of Instagram’s music stickers. To add the music sticker, after you create a photo or text for your Story, tap on the sticker icon at the top of the screen. Then click on the Music sticker and select a song. If lyrics are available for that tune, you’ll see them on the screen even while you preview your Story. If lyrics are not offered for the song you select, a notification saying this will appear at the top of the screen.

  • A narrative-driven Retail Concept Shop Opened by Macy’s Story

A narrative-driven Retail Concept Shop Opened by Macy’s Story

US department store Macy’s has opened its “narrative-driven retail concept shop” Story in 36 locations across the US.

The store concept takes an editorial approach to retail, launching with “colour” as an inaugural theme, inviting customers to explore and experience colour through a rainbow of curated, giftable products and more than 300 colour-inspired events.

“The discovery-led, narrative experience of Story gives new customers a fresh reason to visit our stores and gives the current Macy’s customer even more reason to come back again and again throughout the year,” said Macy’s chairman & CEO Jeff Gennette.

Story themes will change every few months with new concepts featuring unique collaborations, narrative-driven merchandising and dynamic event programming.

“The simultaneous launch of Story at Macy’s in 36 stores across 15 states is the successful outcome of a reimagined approach to cross-functional collaboration and the work of more than 300 Macy’s colleagues who contributed to creating this new, scalable business model nationwide,” said Story founder and Macy’s brand experience officer Rachel Shechtman.

In the lead up to launch, more than 270 dedicated Story managers and “storytellers” were hired and participated in an experiential retail training program that immersed staff with integrated roles on everything from building fixtures to customer engagement and event production.

Story at Macy’s averages 1500sqft, cumulatively representing more than 55,000sqft of main-floor retail space across all 36 stores. Herald Square serves as the flagship location, where Story at Macy’s covers more than 7500sqft of continuous retail space on the main floor and mezzanine levels. The expanded space showcases a broader range of partners and interactive experiences than in other locations.

“The Story at Macy’s experience feels a lot like a real-life version of scrolling through Instagram,” added Shechtman. “You discover things you weren’t looking for, but are inspired by all the fun finds – the second you see it, you need it!

“We aspire to create that feeling with the breadth of the narrative-driven merchandise edit we are bringing to life with the launch of Story at Macy’s across the country.”
