Malaysia’s MMU, Teradata ink pact on big data analytics skills

Multimedia University, Malaysia (MMU) and Teradata have announced a strategic partnership to collaborate on education and research in an effort to cultivate the next generation of data science professionals and experts in Malaysia.

Through this co-operation, MMU will gain access to the Teradata University Network (TUN), a web-based portal that provides complementary teaching and learning tools used by more than 45,000 students around the world to share expertise, access knowledge as well as information on how to enhance both curriculum and align research to the current industry needs.

Teradata University Network currently has over 5,500 registered faculty members, from over 2,400 universities, in 115 countries, with thousands of student users.

A key to the success of Teradata University Network is that it is led by academics to ensure the content will meet the needs of today’s classrooms.

Leveraging the partnership, MMU’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics will offer a Data Science Specialization as part of its Bachelor of Computer Science degree.

This step was taken following the formalization of a Data Science Institute (DSI) at MMU last month designed to cater to both research and industry engagement of MMU’s expertise in this area.

“This MoU facilitates greater input from a leading industry player, and Teradata has committed to provide experts to support exposure to our students and staff alike to its services and solutions,” said MMU president Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq.

Teradata boosts customer experience with behavioral insights

Teradata now offers the Teradata Customer Journey Analytic Solution, a complete set of capabilities for discerning the behavioral paths of each individual customer.

The solution determines the next best interaction and delivering a consistent, personalized brand experience through every channel and touch point. It also uses Teradata’s consulting services, as well as technologies that enable real-time customer data integration, advanced behavioral analytics and multi-channel marketing automation.

Further, the solution enables CMOs who want to truly understand each individual customer experience to move beyond old school one-to-one marketing tactics that rely on purchases and traditional customer profiling.

The insights resulting from Teradata’s Customer Journey Analytic Solution enable marketers to optimize objectives such as response and conversion rates, service delivery, churn, and customer satisfaction – leading directly to high-impact business outcomes such as increased revenue and customer retention.

Customers today require every interaction with a brand to be consistent, but also personalized and relevant. This is despite the ever-expanding range of channels that make building a complete picture of each individual customer extremely challenging.

“Managing every customer as an individual, based on their interactions with your company, requires not only the integration of different types of data but understanding it through the application of complex multi-genre analytics,” said Dan Harrington, EVP for consulting and support services of Teradata. “Even the best-known companies feel this is a ‘boil the ocean’ project – making sense of billions of events for millions of customers, in real time.”

Napster taps Terada for next-gen music streaming products

Napster is upgrading its analytic ecosystem to implement the Teradata Unified Data Architecture (UDA).

The deployment includes multiple nodes of the Data Warehouse Appliance with Teradata QueryGrid for seamless data and systems integration and, in addition, a Teradata Appliance for Hadoop with Cloudera.

Digital streaming is one of the most widely accepted methods of distributing musical content. With a catalog of over 40 million songs, Napster delivers a premium music streaming experience to more than three million paying subscribers in 34 countries across the globe.

“This upgrade establishes Teradata’s UDA technology as the go-forward foundation for analytics to drive Napster’s next-generation music streaming products,” said Brian Ringer, CTO of Napster. “Our newest product offerings such as the Listener Network — which measures music taste overlap among like-minded music fans around the world to help them discover more music they love — demands more advanced big data tools and techniques for understanding and leveraging customer behavior.”

Ringer said Teradata helps Napster optimize detailed customer level data — including content and application usage, and gives them the ability to more effectively analyze and predict lifetime customer value through customer behavior and usage data.

“As we leverage big data through our UDA and new Hadoop Appliance with Cloudera, we expect to understand and serve our customers with deeper personal relevance and even greater listening enjoyment,” he said.

Also, Napster is deploying Teradata QueryGrid, which works to connect a Teradata and Hadoop system to massive scale, with no effort, and at speeds of 10 Gbps.
