Tigers appoints Jana Schebera as new managing director for its China operations

Tigers has appointed Jana Schebera as its new Managing Director, China, adding a further layer of freight forwarding expertise as the logistics provider continues to find growth in Asia.

Prior to moving to Tigers, Jana spent more than a decade in the industry holding positions that included Managing Director for Hong Kong and South China at Rhenus Logistics, and business development roles at M+R Spedag Group.

“What attracted me to join Tigers was the strong focus on IT solutions and the emphasis on adding value for our customers through technology which is quite different from traditional freight forwarding and logistics,” said Jana.

“Furthermore, Tigers has a strong global footprint in B2C logistics, which I definitely see as the future of the industry.”

Based in Tigers’ Tsing Yi e-commerce fulfillment facility in Hong Kong, Jana holds a Master’s degree from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, in Economics and Chinese Studies, and is currently working towards a second Master’s degree in Carbon Management from the University of Edinburgh, UK.

“Jana brings a sound forwarding knowledge to the China team and having spent a few years in Shanghai not only understands the region well, but is fluent in Mandarin too,” said Andrew Jillings, Chief Executive Officer at Tigers.

Tigers releases business intelligence updates for its SmartHub

Global logistics and transportation company Tigers has released new updates for its SmartHub:Connect freight and e-commerce portal, which are designed to help customers during current disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and to support them in the aftermath of the crisis.

SmartHub:Connect has seen a spike in logins and has been supporting increased e-commerce volumes since the beginning of March.

The new features, which will help manage rapidly changing customer demands, include streamlined Purchase Order functions, online notification to the customer or operations if a booking needs attention, and bulk upload of order exceptions.

“In the last month, we have continued to see an upsurge in health-related products and some of the more essential e-commerce items, with conversely B2B and luxury clothing items seeing a dip,” said Mark Gatenby, Chief Information Officer, Tigers

“At the same time, we are noticing that demand for outdoor leisurewear, while not increasing, is holding steady, and we believe we can reasonably expect a surge as people are more likely to take holidays nearer to home; certainly, interest is there.

“With the e-commerce and logistics landscape changing so rapidly as these examples demonstrate, Tigers has been working on new SmartHub:Connect features designed to help people get through the crisis and its aftermath.”

Tigers plans to release real-time alerts for delayed sailings or flights, and is further developing its SmartHub:Connect app as part of the ongoing improvements

Tigers last week organised the safe transportation of over 1.38 million masks and 53 large ventilators on a charter flight from Shanghai, China, to Rome, Italy to support the Italian Government’s fight against Covid-19

The medical supplies travelled in the bellyhold and on the passenger deck of a Boeing 777-200 from Shanghai Pudong Airport, to Fiumicino Airport.

A total of 1,385,000 masks, 53 large ventilators, and a consignment of ventilator accessories were delivered to hospitals across the Italian capital, with more flights expected over the coming weeks.

Tigers Australia boosts e-commerce processing capacity with new omni-channel facility in Sydney

Tigers has opened a new omni-channel facility in Yennora, Sydney, Australia to meet rising demand in domestic and cross-border e-commerce for B2B, B2C fulfilment and retail scan pack.

The omni-channel warehouse is fitted with Tigers’ Automated Transport Sortation System and SmartHub: Connect (SH:C) technologies that enable customers to manage orders and view their inventory remotely.

“The way we all shop is changing and will continue to change,” said Frank Cafasso, Managing Director (MD) Tigers Australia.

“The Yennora facility, with its state-of-the-art systems, will keep Tigers agile in adapting to the evolving e-commerce market.”

“The new warehouse’s upgraded capabilities will allow us to facilitate a variety of storage mediums, and with its centralised processing area, the facility will offer increased scalability as the market grows.”

The new facility expands Tigers’ processing capacity at its Sydney operations to 17,000 pallet locations.

“E-commerce in Australia will increase not only for domestic but also international (cross-border) trade, and our new Sydney facility is expected to handle an initial 20 percent of our B2C e-commerce traffic, with predicted yearly increases,” added Cafasso.

The facility will process a range of consumer goods including, cosmetics, apparel, giftware, manchester and homeware among others.

The new facility is part of Tigers’ two-year strategy to invest in e-commerce and B2B verticals, and similar facilities are planned for construction in Sydney and Melbourne.

SH:C is the world’s first combined freight, e-commerce, and logistics portal, which gives customers end-to-end visibility of the supply chain globally, from transport, to e-commerce fulfilment delivering cost-effective and customisable solutions.

The Sydney hub is part of an ongoing global expansion plan for Hong Kong-headquartered Tigers, and the facility was developed by Fife Capital.

Tigers continues global growth with new mega hub facility in Rotterdam

Tigers is building a new mega-hub facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, as global customer demand and the e-commerce sector continue to grow.

The multi-million-Euro mega-hub is currently under construction and is scheduled to be officially opened in April 2020, providing another flagship location for Tigers in Europe.

“Rotterdam is the biggest port in Europe and a key gateway to the continent for the supply chain, which is why Tigers has been based there for the past 20 years,” said Shahar Ayash, Managing Director – UK and Europe, Tigers.

“The mega hub will be an advanced omnichannel fulfillment center and Tigers’ biggest single operation in Europe, which is being built with longevity and sustainability in mind.

“E-commerce has also been a huge factor in this development with 70 percent of orders processed in Rotterdam related to the e-commerce sector, which is set for even further future growth.”

The new mega-hub will replace Tigers’ existing Rotterdam facility and will be more than 550,000 sqft, have 60,000 pallet positions, and 550,000 bin locations.

The hub is also being built with solar panels on the roof to create a sustainable structure and will be equipped with Tigers’ Cloud-based SmartHub:Connect technology.

“The new facility will be just 10km from the Port of Rotterdam with close proximity to major road and rail networks, making it strategically located for both first and final mile,” said Ryan Balic, Regional Director Sales, Europe, Tigers.

“The mega hub will allow our customers to accommodate organic growth and benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including enhanced security features, multiple storages and picking processes, dedicated B2C returns and VAS processing areas, and an increased number of conveyor scan-pack stations.”

The Rotterdam mega-hub is part of an ongoing global expansion plan for Hong Kong-headquartered Tigers, and the facility is being constructed by a real estate developer, DHG.

Tigers South Africa opens dedicated e-commerce centre as demand soars

Tigers South Africa has officially opened a dedicated e-commerce center at its Johannesburg, South Africa, warehouse facility, as the online retail market continues to grow globally.

The center is equipped with the Tigers-developed ScanPak App that allows staff to conduct scan checks while packing shipments and create waybills for packages to ensure efficient handling of goods.

“The new e-commerce facility will take Tigers South Africa to the next level, as the online retail market continues to be a key focus for us,” said Paul Lawrence, Managing Director, Tigers South Africa.

“With the ongoing e-commerce revolution and digital technology transforming the way consumers shop, we find ourselves in a very good strategic position to further enhance and grow this vertical for Tigers.

“As with most Tigers solutions, ScanPak is replicable, and we will roll out the same solution in Cape Town by the end of August.”

The e-commerce center is the first of its kind for Tigers in South Africa, and the move coincides with the recent announcement about freight rate quote engine Doozee being rolled-out across Tigers’ global internal network.

“E-commerce is a key market for Tigers, particularly as digital technology and online retail continues to drive innovation in the logistics and supply chain sector,” said Andrew Jillings, Chief Executive Officer, Tigers.

Global e-commerce fulfilment expert Tigers has opened an office in Suzhou, China, and a new fulfilment centre in Selangor, Malaysia, as part of ongoing expansion plans to serve the region’s booming e-tail market. The new e-Fulfilment Logistics Centre in Selangor is Tigers’ second Malaysian operation, after the automotive fulfilment centre in Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia.

The new Suzhou office is located 30 minutes from Shanghai, China, where Tigers has recently opened a new facility to meet growing e-customer demand in both the business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C) sectors.

“China and South East Asia are two of the fastest growing regions in the world for online retail, and we will continue to support that growth by providing state-of-the-art facilities to meet customer demand,” said Andrew Jillings, Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, Tigers.

Tigers specialises in e-commerce fulfilment, transportation, and supply chain solutions across a wide range of industries, including automotive, fashion, outdoor and active lifestyle, health, technology, wine, and perishables.

“Suzhou is the perfect location for Tigers, and our historic city is fast becoming a hub for international logistics organisations,” said Edison Zhang, General Manager – Sales, China, Tigers.

“We are experiencing strong sales activity in Suzhou, and there are plans for further expansion into the Chinese market, where we already have 15 locations.”

The 10,000 sq ft Selangor facility will operate as a headquarter for sea freight, e-commerce, and logistics, and is located 20 minutes away from Port Klang, 40 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and one hour from Kuala Lumpur city centre.

The automotive fulfilment centre in Kota Kinabalu is a 12,000 sq ft (1,115 sq m) facility, which supplies the entire East Malaysia region with a spare parts delivery service on a B2B basis.

The new facilities in Asia follow the opening of a new office at Frankfurt Airport in Germany in July, which will act as a gateway to Europe by creating a trade lane between Germany and South Africa.

  • South African conservationist-turned-artist Bruce Little entrusts his latest exhibition to Tigers

South African conservationist-turned-artist Bruce Little entrusts his latest exhibition to Tigers

Tigers has transported 29 large bronze wildlife sculptures from Cape Town, South Africa to London, United Kingdom for conservationist-turned-artist Bruce Little’s largest exhibition to date, held at the Mall Galleries.

The sculptures ranged from a tiny Harvester Mouse, measuring just 10cm long, 10cm wide, and 10cm high, and weighing three kilograms, to a Leopard, measuring 450cm long, 160cm wide, and 120cm high, and weighing 250 kilograms.

“We loaded the sculptures under the watchful eye of the artist himself, Bruce Little, and re-palletised and delicately wrapped them to ensure a safe and secure movement to the gallery,” said Trevor Weeks, Branch Manager, London Heathrow Airport, Tigers.

“Twenty-nine large sculptures arrived in an ocean freight container at Tigers’ London Heathrow Airport facility, and were cleared as temporary import with a view to possible sale, providing the customer with the most cost-effective solution.

“A further 31 smaller sculptures were moved from an address in the UK, and were delivered together at the Mall Galleries, using a vehicle mounted forklift truck to assist the gallery team with offloading.”

Tigers collected the sculptures from the Mall Galleries after the exhibition had ended, and delivered them to another location in the UK for a private show.

“Hosting an exhibition, the scale of which we have just had in London, is no easy feat particularly when the source of work has come from thousands of kilometres away,” said Bruce Little.

“Fortunately, we have companies like Tigers at our disposal that have assisted seamlessly in delivering our bronzes where and when they are supposed to be.

“Last year they moved a monumental lion for me from Cape Town to Longleat, Wiltshire, UK, which weighed approximately five tonnes and this too went without a hitch.

“I am most grateful for Tigers and their associates that have made it possible for me to exhibit around the world.”

Tigers operates seven offices in the United Kingdom, including London Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Felixstowe, Cardiff, Banbury, and Leeds.

    Tigers Linking Rail Freight Destinations

Tigers has launched a new rail freight service, called Tiger Rail, offering customers a 16-day transit time both east and westbound, between Duisburg, Germany, and Hefei, Chongqing, and Chengdu, China.

Tiger Rail customers can charter a train, or book Full Container Load (FCL) or Less than Container Load (LCL) shipments on weekly scheduled services to and from over 15 origin stations in China.

The Hong Kong-headquartered supply chain specialist is also planning to offer

e-commerce customers shipping parcels from Europe to China a cost-effective service along the new Silk Road.

“We have seized the opportunity to provide integrated logistics for our customers, who increasingly require shorter transit times than ocean freight, and lower costs than airfreight, making Tiger Rail the perfect solution,” said Paul Huang, Managing Director, Tigers China.

“Our customers benefit from lower shipping costs by empty container return in Switzerland for westbound services, and Shipper’s Own Container (SOC) for eastbound services, for both FCL and LCL.

“Tigers has already supported customers to transport over 500 TEUs as FCL, and 1500 cubic meters (CBMs) as LCL along the new Silk Road.”

Tiger Rail’s inaugural shipment took place over the summer, on behalf of one of one of the largest manufacturers of exhaust and suspension systems, which chartered a train to transport construction materials, auto parts, and electronics.

“We are currently preparing test shipments for European Union (EU) Business to Consumer (B2C) parcels importing to China with Tiger Rail, and look forward to expanding our rail freight capabilities even further,” said Andrew Jillings, Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, Tigers.

Tiger Rail customers can track and trace their freight shipments using the Tiger Trax platform.

The launch of Tiger Rail comes only weeks after Tigers achieved Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certification in the UK, expanded its footprint with a new office in Leeds, and launched a post-Brexit solution to combat any disruption caused by Brexit.

Supply chain group Tigers launches new e-shop marketplace supporting brands entering china

Supply chain group Tigers has launched a new marketplace, called eShop, to support brands entering the rapidly expanding China and Southeast Asia e-commerce markets.

The digital marketplace, part of Tigers’ suite of e-commerce products, offers a one-stop shop solution, from marketing, to taking payments, managing the supply chain, order fulfilment, and returns.

Up-and-coming Italian designer workout wear Gr1ps, and award-winning golf simulator OptiShot Golf are amongst the first Tigers eShop customers in China, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

“Tigers eShop offers a cost-effective, scalable enterprise solution for companies of all sizes,” said Andrew Jillings, chief executive officer and group managing director, Tigers.

“We can provide fiscal representation to SMEs wanting to enter the China market that do not have a presence there.”

“The logistics industry has the desire to adopt technology, but few providers are offering a real solution that ultimately services every e-commerce business.

“Rather than being a one-size fits all, Tigers’ IT systems, which work on a cloud-based operating platform, are flexible enough to meet a large variety of demands.”

Gr1ps, founded in 2011, designs innovative functional training products and has been recognised as a pioneer in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts apparel. “Tigers eShop forms a core part of our sales strategy in acquiring new clients in the Asia market, and increasing brand awareness and exposure through Tigers’ network,” said Katty Fung, chief operating officer, Gr1ps.

“We look forward to bringing our brand values, of quality and attention to detail, to larger sports and lifestyle communities with this expansion.”

OptiShot Golf is a golf simulator platform designed by two fans of the game, which allows players to practice and play on replicas of major championship courses, as well as play in global online tournaments, with real clubs and real golf balls.

“China is an important market for us and the Tigers eShop is an exciting opportunity for us to grow our presence there,” said Kevin Johnston, president and chief operating officer (COO), OptiShot Golf.

Tigers, which has been operational in Greater China since 1969, has 17 offices across the country and specialises in e-commerce fulfilment, transportation, and supply chain solutions.

The Hong Kong headquartered supply chain specialist has 65 offices and 32 omni-distribution hubs across China, the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Malaysia, India, and South Africa.

Tigers plans to open more eShops across a number of strategic locations.

“Tigers will continue to focus on our two main assets, our technology and our people,” said Jillings.

“We are privileged to be working with exciting brands like Gr1ps and OptiShot Golf. They are both dynamic groups with great products and they embrace the online retail space.

“There is always a learning curve working with companies like these.”

Tigers can trace its founding origins back to 1888 in the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, where their South African subsidiary was first founded.
