    Wonderful Indonesia wins best exhibitor title in Berlin

    Indonesias tourism brand “Wonderful Indonesia” won “The Best Exhibitor 2017” title at the worlds biggest tourism exhibition in Berlin, Germany.

    Indonesias tourism minister Arief Yahya hailed the award announced at around 2.30am on March 12.

    “This is a pride achievement. ITB (International Tourismus Borse) Berling is the worlds biggest tourism exhibition attended by 187 countries, 10,000 exhibitors, 180,000 visitors in Messe, Berlin. All tourism industries, tour and travel agencies, airlines, cruise service, hotels, resorts, attractions, governments, associations gathered at ITB Berlin. Wonderful Indonesia has shown its class at the world level,” he said.

    This is the second title after the one Indonesia won in 2016 when Wonderful Indonesia successfully came out as the Best Exhibitor 2016 beating “Imagine” of South Korea which was placed second, “Incredible of India at the third place, followed by Maldives, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

    This year Wonderful Indonesia topped South Koreas “Imagine” and Thailands “Imagine”.

    Malaysia was ranked 10th out of 75 countries and 1,466 exhibitors taking part in the event.

    Indonesias participation along with a number of delegations in the event from year to year has proven able to increase transactions significantly.

    In 2015 Indonesia was able to record transactions worth Rp4.2 trillion and in 2016 it increased to Rp6.5 trillion. “The target for 2017 was set at Rp10 trillion,” the minister said.

    Next year he wished Indonesia would be able to win the Best of the Best title and become the champion of five continents.

    This year Indonesia set up a 487 square meter pavilion to present various art exhibitions including dances from Papua, Bali, Betawi and Aceh.

    At the event Indonesia raised the theme of maritime and cultural diversity which was expected to be able to give the public in Europe a full picture of Indonesia.

    Deputy for overseas tourism marketing I Gde Pitana said he had promoted Wonderful Indonesia more intensively at ITB Berlin by cooperating with Indonesian industry players.

    “We brought a delegation consisting of 135 travel agencies, hotel and regional tourism service representatives,” he said.

    The Indonesian pavilion at Hall 26 A Number 120 was storied in the form of a traditional Phinisi ship and Wae Rebo traditional house of Flores.

    He said the two icons represented the theme of Wonderful Indonesia which was “Maritime and Cultural Diversity.”

    Pitana hoped Indonesias tourism brand Wonderful Indonesia would become more popular following the participation in ITB Berlin to make more foreign tourists to come to the country.

    The Indonesian Embassy in Doha, Qatar, has promoted the countrys tourism brand “Wonderful Indonesia” by introducing its culinary richness to mark the 40th anniversary of the two countries diplomatic ties.

    The event to promote Indonesias traditional snacks featuring the culinary richness of different ethnic groups was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps in Doha, the embassys spokesperson Boy Dharmawan informed ANTARA News here Friday.

    Several snacks served to the guests were Ketan Srikaya, sweet custard with sticky rice; gethuk cake, traditional snack made from cassava; onde-onde, glutinous rice flour balls; wajik sticky rice; jalangkote, fried pie filled with chicken; Lemper, steamed sticky rice cake with beef or chicken; and apem, rice flour cakes, he remarked.

    “The cakes served are delicious,” Thai Ambassadors wife Benj Chaiyindeepum said when asked to comment on the taste of the served snacks.

    Benj was one of the 16 spouses of ambassadors of different countries in Qatars capital city who attended the event, he added.

    ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ campaign boosts tourism industry

    The government’s efforts to promote tourism in the archipelago with its Wonderful Indonesia campaign have had a positive impact, the president director of tour and travel company Panorama Sentrawisata said on Tuesday.

    Budi Tirtawisata said that in the first six months of this year, his company booked a 19 percent increase in gross revenue to Rp 2.38 trillion, from Rp 1.99 trillion in the same period last year, as more foreigners were drawn to Indonesia.

    “The government’s free visa policy is also contributing to growth in the tourism sector,” Budi told reporters at a press conference in Jakarta.

    Budi was upbeat the company’s business volume would increase, and possibly double, in the second half of 2016, compared to the first half, because more tourism activities were expected to take place in the period.

    “The peak season for tourist visits to Indonesia is during the summer, which occurs in the second half of the year,” Budi said, adding that more tourists would also visit the country during the Christmas holidays in December.

    SIA to support Indonesia’s tourism campaign under new partnership

    National carrier Singapore Airlines and Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism on Thursday (Apr 28) announced a partnership to boost foreign tourist arrivals into Indonesia.

    Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding at the National Coordination Tourism Meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, and they will work to finalise details of the partnership in a memorandum of cooperation at a “later date”, the joint press release said.

    Under the three-year partnership, SIA will support the ministry’s tourism campaign “Wonderful Indonesia”, which aims to attract 20 million foreign tourist arrivals annually by 2019.

    Joint activities will include advertising and other campaigns to promote travel to Indonesia via Singapore from key source markets, which include China and India for the first year of collaboration, the press release said.

    SIA, together with its subsidiary SilkAir, serve 13 cities in Indonesia with more than 150 weekly flights, the airline said.

    Prince Albert of Monaco appreciates Wonderful indonesia

    Prince Albert II of Monaco appreciated Wonderful Indonesia, Indonesia’s tourism promotion branding initiative, during an Indonesia-Monaco Friendship Night in Monte Carlo on April 20.

    The Tourism Ministry Secretary, Ukus Kuswara, said in Monaco on Saturday that Monaco’s head of state expressed his appreciation for the campaign when he attended the friendship night, where cultural and arts performances were the highlight.

    Apart from Prince Albert II, the friendship night, an initiative of the Indonesian tourism ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Paris, was also attended by government officials, the head of state palace, the head of Monaco Economic Agency, industrialists and tourism business players of the kingdom state.

    The tourism ministry presented the Paulus Surya Orchestra & Vocalia from Semarang, Central Java, featuring 10 musicians and five dancers. Dressed in Bali’s exotic costumes, they danced to traditional music as audiences joined the revelries, shaking their heads, their bodies jiving to keep up with the tempo.

    A medley of European songs, including the O Bambino Caro, a favorite of the mother of Prince Albert II, mesmerized the audience. Besides the orchestra, Indonesian textiles were also displayed by noted designer Oscar Lawalata.

    Oscar Lawalata displayed 60 personal classic textile collections from various regions in Indonesia.

    After the Wonderful Indonesia program, the event continued with a business meeting between the two countries.

    The Indonesian delegation was led by Kuswara, accompanied by Hirmansyah Sambudhy Thaib, the chairman of the working group for development acceleration of 10 national tourism destinations.

    On the Monaco side, the event was attended by the country’s businessmen and industrialists who were offered investment cooperation and a chance to visit Indonesia. They were offered investment opportunities in Indonesia’s Tourism Special Economic Zone, now being developed in 10 tourism destinations.

    Tram in Berlin Promotes Wonderful Indonesia

    Transportation in Berlin known as tram help promotes “Wonderful Indonesia” with images of various tourist attractions in Indonesia including Borobudur, Bali and Komodo Island.

    “I am proud to witness tram in Berlin decorated with various tourist attractions of Indonesia,” said Lina Berlina, Indonesian designer living in Berlin, Tuesday, March 8.

    The promotion is due to Indonesia’s participation in the world’s largest promotional exhibition ITB Berlin which will be held from March 9-13.

    Deputy Director for International MarComm of Tourism Ministry Agustini Rahayu said that Wonderful Indonesia promotion in Berlin trams will be from March 7 to April 25.

    The routes that are passed by the trams with Wonderful Indonesia promotion go through Zone AB/ABC or Berlin’s community activity center and have become Berlin’s city attraction. Tram No. M6 and M4 pass Alexanderplatz, which is the heart of Berlin, and Hackeser Markt.

    There are images of tourist attractions in Bangka Belitung, images traditional dancers from Nias Island and Barong from Banyuwangi, as well as images of traditional custom of Balinese, etc.

    Agustini Rahayu said the tram with “Wonderful Indonesia” promotion have a registration number of 1033, 1068, 1092, 1070, 1503, 1575, 1520, 4007, 4008, 4010, 8014, 8015, 8016, 8017, 8018 and also in two subways; number 1011-1 and 1011-4.

    The promotion of Wonderful Indonesia was decided to be applied on trams and subways since the 352 trams in Berlin have 181.1 million passengers per year.

    This means there are about 513,031 passengers per tram and the campaign from March – April is expected to cover 1,282,578 passengers.

    Indonesia promotes Wonderful Indonesia at Portugal tourism fair

    Indonesia promoted the Wonderful Indonesia brand at the biggest tourism exhibition in Portugal, called Bolsa Turismo de Lisboa (BTL), at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL) Lisbon.

    The event was organized by the Association of Industries of Portugal (AIP) and was opened by the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa.

    Indonesian pavilion featured art performances and a seminar titled Dream, Explore and Discover Wonderful Indonesia. The seminar was organized by the Visit Indonesia Tourism Officer (VITO) Paris, a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Lisbon received by ANTARA said here on Wednesday.

    This exhibition is being held regularly for the last 28. During the March 2 to 6 event, the Indonesian booth entertained about 2,000 visitors.

    Data from the Portugal Ministry of Immigration showed an increase in the number of Portuguese tourists to Indonesia, from 18,312 tourists in 2014 to at least 21,000 in 2015.

    Indonesias target is to attract through the BTL event 25,000 Portuguese tourists during 2016.

    At the BTL, Indonesia introduced 10 new destinations, namely Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Tanjung Kelayang Beach (Belitung), Seribu Islands (Jakarta), Tanjung Lesung Beach (Banten), Borobudur Temple (Central Java), Bromo-Tengger-Semeru (a volcano complex area in East Java), Mandalika (West Nusa Tenggara), Wakatobi (East Nusa Tenggara), Morotai Island (North Maluku), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara).

    The Indonesian Ambassador to Portugal, Wirana Mulya, said the bilateral relations between the two countries are becoming ever stronger.

    The Indonesian government extends a visa-free visit policy for 30 days to the citizens of Portugal to visit Indonesia.

    The ambassador called upon stakeholders in the field of tourism to encourage Schengen visa exemption for Indonesian tourists to European countries.

    Indonesia will participate in Berlin Internationale Tourism Bourse (ITB Berlin) in Germany, March 9-13, 2016.

    The Indonesian delegation to the ITB Berlin would be headed by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, Nia Niscaya of the tourism ministry told Antara on Sunday.

    Indonesias pavilion themed “Wonderful Indonesia” will feature a Phinisi traditional boat of South Sulawesi.

    Some 100 travel operators will join the Indonesian delegation to promote the countrys tourist destinations and offer various tour packages to buyers from all over the world.

    “The point is to market tourist destinations from Sabang (Aceh) to Merauke (Papua),” Nia Niscaya said.

    The ITB Berlin is expected to attract 10 thousand participants from 185 countries as well as at least 23 thousand visitors.

    In 2015, Indonesias delegation consisting of 88 travel agents, recorded business transactions worth Rp4.8 trillion in the ITB Berlin.

    This year, Indonesia expects to generate an increase of some 20 percent from last years value, as 850 qualified top buyers have confirmed their participation in the ITB Berlin.

    The Indonesian government hopes to generate foreign exchange amounting to Rp172 trillion from 12 million foreign tourist arrivals and Rp223.6 trillion from 260 million domestic tourists this year.

    The country has also set a target of receiving 20 million foreign tourists by 2019.

    Indonesias Tourism Ministry promoted “Wonderful Indonesia” brand on the sidelines of the Fifth Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held at the Jakarta Convention Center on March 6-7.

    The ministry extended support for conducting the summit, the ministrys spokesman Billy Iqbal Alamsyah said here on Monday.
    “We provided support in several forms, including by providing souvenirs, etc.,” he said.
    The summit was also a strategic forum to promote “Wonderful Indonesia” brand as a total of 605 delegates from 57 countries and two international organizations were present in the meeting, he said.

    While the OIC leaders held a closed-door meeting, the ministry showed a video on Indonesias top tourist destinations at the media center set up to facilitate some 500 national and foreign journalists.

    Heritage and Wonderful Indonesia stands presenting the Indonesian Beauty Pageant were set up in front of the media center.
    Widayanti Bandia, head of the tourism business partnership department of the Tourism Ministry, said the ministry, in cooperation with Mustika Ratu, offered free spa treatment to delegates.

    “The spa that we offer here is halal and in accordance with Syariah (Islamic laws),” she said.
