    Yusen Logistics raises the bar with two milestones

    Yusen Logistics Singapore Pte Ltd marked two significant milestones on 20 September 2017 in Tuas – a groundbreaking ceremony for its first future-ready warehouse and the commissioning of Swisslog Autostore, an automated ultra-high-density storage and robotic order-picking technology.

    Breaking ground to superstruct a new warehouse on existing site and launching the Swisslog Autostore that is newly installed within its current Tuas warehouse, Yusen Logistics is advancing existing operation productivity by:

    • Optimising storage volume for a 1,260 square metre floor area, in existing building, from
    • 2,000 cubic metres to 3,500 cubic metres;
    • Increasing throughput for receiving, sorting and put-away by 18 times;
    • Upskilling 60 per cent of manual labour by transforming manual tasks to digital skills;
    • Increasing high volume and high mix order fulfilment rate by 200 per cent; and
    • Creating new data analytical jobs – Executives analysing data from various digital systems to uncover new patterns for operational improvements and to improve customers’ supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.

    Ready by Q1 2019, the new three-storey ramp-up warehouse is designed and built by Boustead Projects and offers seamless process integration with the existing building. Advanced robotic, radio-frequency identification (RFID), vision recognition system and autonomous technology will be installed and integrated with Swisslog Autostore, to transform the conventional warehouse operation to smart data driven logistics operation.

    The new warehouse comprises 20,000 square metres of storage area, with 36 loading bays and an 8,000 square meter rooftop parking area for up to 100 trailers.

    Yusen Logistics participates in KIX Pharma Community

    Yusen Logistics will join the KIX Pharma Community, a group being formed by Kansai Airlines and other partners to acquire joint CEIV Pharma certification at Kansai International Airport in Japan. The Community expects to be certified by the summer of 2018.By participating in the community, Yusen Logsitics strengthens and expands its air freight services for its pharmaceutical and medical customers.

    CEIV Pharma (the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics) certification is a quality assurance program for the temperature-controlled transportation of pharmaceutical products, developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The program comprehensively covers Good Distribution Practices (GDP), and establishes guidelines that help supply chain partners develop and maintain safe air transportation practices for pharmaceutical products.

    As part of its strategy to turn Kansai International Airport into an international cargo hub, Kansai Airports is in the process of improving the quality of how it handles pharmaceutical products. The establishment of the KIX Pharma Community, combined with joint CEIV Pharma certification, will enable it to provide even safer, high-quality pharmaceutical transportation.

    In terms of exports, this will cover the entire supply chain from collection to aircraft loading; and for imports, from airport arrival to delivery. Acquisition of the certification is scheduled to be completed between spring and summer of 2018.

    Yusen Logistics is strengthening its logistics services for medical and pharmaceuticals products around the world. Last December, the company utilized Pharma Gateway Amsterdam—a community centered on Amsterdam Airport Schiphol—to become the first Japanese logistics company to acquire CEIV Pharma certification. This past May, the company acquired GDP certification at Frankfurt Airport. As a result, Yusen Logistics is now able to provide air import and export services that adhere to certification standards at two of Europe’s leading airports.

    In Asia, last July PT. Yusen Logistics Indonesia became the first Indonesian logistics company to acquire GDP certification for customs and delivery business processes related to air cargo arriving at and leaving from Jakarta International Airport.. In this way, Yusen Logistics is also expanding its global medical and pharmaceutical logistics network in Asia.

    Yusen Logistics is working to acquire CEIV Pharma certification at Kansai International Airport, with the aim of establishing a high-quality pharmaceutical logistics service, and globally expanding its supply chain and logistics services that cater to customer needs.

    On July 12, Yusen Logistics held an opening ceremony for Thilawa Logistics Centre in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Myanmar.

    Yusen to strengthen contract logistics business in Indonesia

    PT. Yusen Logistics Solutions Indonesia strengthens contract logistics business by relocating and expanding warehouse facilities in MM2100 Industrial Town, Jakarta, in November 2017.

    MM2100 Industrial Town is strategically located as a logistics hub, offering good access to Jakarta, the Port of Tanjung Priok, and Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. The surrounding area is also home to a large number of companies centered on manufacturing operations and is seeing ongoing infrastructure improvements, so the industrial town is expected to expand further.

    The company owns three warehouses in MM2100 Industrial Town and operates them independently. Warehouse No. 3 will relocate within the industrial town, doubling its warehouse space to 11,000 square metres. It will go into operation in this November. As a result, the total floor area of the three warehouses in MM2100 Industrial Town will increase to approximately 45,000 square metres, the largest of any logistics provider in the industrial town. Using our accumulated know-how, we will respond to increased demand for logistics services.

    Yusen Logistics has three Indonesian subsidiaries: PT. Yusen Logistics Solutions Indonesia, PT Puninar Yusen Logistics Indonesia, which also provides warehouse services, and PT. Yusen Logistics Indonesia, which provides ocean and air freight forwarding services. Yusen Logistics Group is working to strengthen internal collaboration, with D. Budijanto becoming president director of all three companies in April this year. It has also centralised PT. Yusen Logistics Solutions Indonesia as a contact window for contract logistics business and prepared a system for expanding the business.

  • Yusen opens cold storage facility in Cambodia

    Yusen opens cold storage facility in Cambodia

    Yusen Logistics is establishing a temperature-controlled distribution center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

    It is one of Cambodia’s largest cold storage facilities. The facility strengthens Yusen Logistics distribution network in Asia and will support Cambodia’s growing demand for warehouse storage for imported general consumer goods and chilled and frozen goods.

    In addition, the company will be offering Cambodia’s first consolidated delivery service in Phnom Penh for retailers and wholesalers.

    The new facility has about 3,000 -square-meter, almost double the capacity of the existing warehouse which included the 120 -cubic-meter temperature-controlled storage area. The expansion will enable the company to handle the storage, processing and distribution of chilled and frozen goods with quality assurance and compliance.

    The consolidated delivery service will be available to customers in Phnom Penh on a daily basis, excluding weekends. Yusen Logistics will also provide the same service for chilled and frozen goods using cold-storage boxes and will ensure product quality is maintained up to the point of delivery.

    The group’s Medium-Term Business Plan, “GO FORWARD, Yusen Logistics – Next Challenges”, positions the ASEAN region as a critical region. The Cambodia subsidiary, which began operations in 2013, has provided a diverse and varied range of logistic services, including ocean and air freight forwarding, customs clearance, domestic delivery, and cross border transportation.
