  • 4 in 5 APAC operators plan to deliver 5G for sport events

4 in 5 APAC operators plan to deliver 5G for sport events

More than four in five (81%) operators in Asia-Pacific plan to deliver 5G services to major live sports and esports event organizers, according to research conducted by Ovum for Amdocs.

The research found that operators in the region view sports events such as the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as an opportunity to create new enterprise services grounded in 5G communications.

As well as 5G, 81% of APAC operators plan on offering IoT-related technology and services to stadium owners and tournament organizers to create efficiencies in stadium management, and 56% plan to offer services that will improve fan experiences, such as introducing the ability to order food and beverages over mobile devices.

Operators anticipate new commercial opportunities from supporting major sporting events with 5G. Around 44% of operators in the region believe 5G will drive growth in terms of ARPU and 32% believe it will boost their enterprise business.

Meanwhile 50% of Asia-Pacific operators believe that 5G will drive growth in sports TV subscribers, and 43% believe it will drive mainstream adoption of virtual reality services.

To capitalize on these opportunities, 81% of operators plan on creating new partnerships with broadcasters and OTT service providers.

The same proportion are planning to create new partnerships with device manufacturers, 64% are seeking direct partnerships with sports venues, and 56% want partnerships with social media and video game companies.

But operators are also anticipating network related challenges regarding new 5G services for sports and esports. When asked about the biggest expected challenges, 69% cited issues with delivering the required levels of capacity and connectivity to support live HD video, and 56% cited indoor coverage to stadiums.

“Operators see both short-term benefits in supporting sports with 5G, including growth in ARPU and their media business line, as well as longer-term benefits, such as enhanced brand appeal among younger demographics,” Amdocs CMO Gary Miles said.

“Furthermore, working with new types of partners on 5G and sports will give operators a vital role in a new digital business ecosystem. Out of a multitude of potential 5G use cases, our research shows that sports and esports is certainly among the most compelling.”

Amdocs launches aia to enable the “self-driving telco”

Amdocs has used Mobile World Congress 2017 to introduce aia, a new digital intelligence platform for the telecoms and media industry designed to enable the “self-driving telco”.

The platform combines AI and machine learning capabilities – including cognitive computing services from IBM’s Watson – to deliver real-time intelligence into customer needs.

Real-time data will be used by aia to make predictions, automate decisions and directly manage conversations with customers. Self-learning capabilities will be used to adapt to changing dynamics.

The platform has the ability to manage around 50 operational business processes covered by the Amdocs OSS portfolio.

“Imagine a world where your business intuitively understands your customers’ needs and automatically adapts to address them, where service providers embrace cognitive learning within their operational strategies, boosting customer experience, dynamically managing the product catalog and optimizing increasingly complex networks,” Amdocs CMO Gary Miles said. “aia will make that world a reality.”

aia uses a data model compliant with the SID information framework component of TM Forum’s Frameworx digital transformation blueprint.

Cloudera CEO Tom Reilly commented that Amdocs is “uniquely positioned to integrate intelligent data into a service provider’s Hadoop-based ecosystem.

“The relevance of AI for service providers is very real and they get it; the question is how quickly they can act on it. By injecting intelligence into our portfolio, aia gives them a pragmatic and straightforward way to embrace AI into their business.”

    Globe deploys Amdocs’ Revenue Guard

The Philippines’ Globe Telecom will deploy a revenue assurance platform from Amdocs to help minimize revenue leakage risks.

Globe has selected the Amdocs Revenue Guard service, which provides automated and analytics-driven revenue assurance.

The service uses technology developed by cVidya, which Amdocs acquired for $30 million earlier this year. It combines revenue assurance and fraud management software tools with professional services including risk analysis consulting, business analytics, training and IT operations.

Globe will use the service across its line of business, and plans to take advantage of the consulting and training services provided.

Revenue Guard can be deployed on-premise or as a cloud services under a variety of operating models, including SaaS, revenue share and KPI models.

“The entry of a company of Amdocs’ magnitude to the revenue assurance space with its acquisition of cVidya is yet another proof of the increased importance of this domain for the industry as the world becomes increasingly digital,” Globe CFO Rizza Maniego-Eala commented.

“By integrating the Amdocs Revenue Guard service into our data lake, we will be able to centrally analyze and effectively share data across the different parts of our business, optimizing revenue while keeping operational costs to the absolute minimum. We see this as an additional milestone in our transformation to become a digital service provider.”

  • Globe’s Fintech Subsidiary Mynt Selects Amdocs to Power its Casa Service

Globe’s Fintech Subsidiary Mynt Selects Amdocs to Power its Casa Service

Amdocs, the leading provider of customer experience solutions, today announced that Mynt, Globe Telecom’s fintech subsidiary, has selected the Amdocs Mobile Financial Services solution to power Casa – a new service that will enable Mynt to offer retailers a cloud-based, financial-grade, white-label digital money fintech platform, providing retailers with the means to offer a wide range of financial services and generate a new revenue stream.

The Mynt Casa service, which will be powered by the Amdocs Mobile Financial Services solution, will enable retailers to offer bill payments, money transfers, closed-loop merchant payment solutions and loyalty program management. In addition, a card management feature will support them in issuing a closed-loop companion prepaid card to any customer, even if they do not hold a bank account. Cards will be linked to the user’s mobile wallet account, allowing them to pay for purchases at retail and online stores.

The Amdocs solution will be deployed on Amazon’s public cloud. Based on a multi-tenant system, it will enable retailers in different locations to be hosted as separate tenants on a centralized platform, wholly managed by Amdocs. Under a five-year software as a service (SaaS) agreement, Amdocs will assume complete responsibility for development, deployment, operation and maintenance of the Amdocs solution via a revenue-sharing model with Mynt.

“Retailers in emerging markets such as the Philippines need their own e-money solution that allows them to offer financial services such as point-of-sale payments, using cashless methods such as mobile wallets, payment cards and loyalty points,” said JM Aujero, chief sales officer at Mynt. “With Casa’s easy-to-use cloud-based platform, we will be able to provide for this need in a way that is tailored to each individual retailer. At the same time, it will enable them to offer wider financial services, such as third-party bill payments and money transfers without having to invest in new infrastructure deployment and operations.”

“The ability for retailers and merchants to offer their own financial services solutions is a huge opportunity for mobile financial services providers to drive usage and adoption,” said Patrick McGrory
, president for Amdocs’ emerging offerings. “Casa, powered by Amdocs’ cloud-based solution, provides superior, retail-specific capabilities, combined with a time-to-market advantage that will enable Mynt to quickly roll out services to its retail partners across the Philippines.”

Amdocs also separately announced the availability of its Mobile Financial Services Card Management System (CMS). CMS supports any service provider in issuing both closed loop and open loop prepaid and debit cards to their customers, even to those who have no bank account. The card can be linked to a consumer’s mobile wallet with a stored value and/or loyalty point account as the source of funds. They can use the card to pay for purchases at a retail point of sale terminal, withdraw cash from an ATM, or for online shopping.

  • Amdocs enhances personalized mobile video experiences

Amdocs enhances personalized mobile video experiences

Amdocs has made available new capabilities within the Amdocs Omni-Channel Experience solution to allow mobile service providers to connect to content and application providers (CAPs) to deliver new and creative digital services to users.

Via integration with Google’s publicly available mobile data plan application program interface (API), the Amdocs Omni-Channel Experience solution has been initially deployed to interoperate with Google’s YouTube app, and in the future may be able to be deployed to support other Google services and CAPs who are using the same API.

The interoperability of the Amdocs solution with YouTube’s mobile app allows improved in-app data transparency and data transactions. YouTube will be able to offer customers the ability to view YouTube videos offline at reduced rates during off-peak hours, thereby allowing service providers to shift traffic from peak hours to times when their network is underused, providing dynamic pricing opportunities and ensuring better viewing quality.

Data balance and rate information will be provided by the Amdocs Omni-Channel Experience solution, enabling service providers to present this information in a consistent way across different customer touch points, including YouTube’s mobile app.

“Working together with Google, we are offering service providers innovative ways to cater to the digital lifestyle of today’s Generation C consumers and power their businesses with new, digitally-enabled capabilities, building customer trust through data transparency and increasing business value through network traffic optimization,” said Chris Williams, head of global marketing at Amdocs.
