  • Indonesia Promotes Tourism in Macau

    Indonesia Promotes Tourism in Macau

Rizki Handayani Mustafa, deputy of Southeast Asian Development at the Tourism Ministry said that Indonesia would promote its tourism industry to Macau in a bid to increase the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia.

“For the first time Indonesia will consider Macau to be a potential tourism market for Indonesia, Rizki told Antara on Thursday, December 10.

Rizi added that the government would introduce Indonesia with its tourism potentials. Macau travel agent head Xiao Hong said that not many people in Macau knew about Indonesia and how to get there. Therefore, Xiao Hong suggested that Indonesia must conduct more campaigns in Macau.

“The people in Macau have high expenses, so Macau is very potential as Indonesia’s tourism market. Moreover, many Chinese tourists who visited Macau can continue their trip to Indonesia,” Hong added.

Bobby A. Rusyandi, general manager of Garuda Indonesia Branch Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, said that his airline would work with Ferry operator connecting Macau and Hong Kong to facilitate tourists who want to Visit Indonesia.

“So, people from Macau who will visit Indonesia with Garuda Indonesia can use a Ferry from Macau to Hongkong, and take Garuda Indonesia from Hong Kong to Jakarta or Hong Kong to Denpasar,” Bobby explained.

Data from the Tourism Ministry revealed that the number of Macau tourists visiting Indonesia in 2014 stood at 1,622 people.

    1,100 Japanese tourists visiting Indonesia

As many as 1,100 Japanese visitors, including businessmen, parliamentarians and government officials, have just arrived in Jakarta, as an evidence of cooperation on the visa-free policy between Indonesia and Japan.

The Japanese tourists are being led by the chairman of the Indonesia-Japan Parliamentary League, Toshihiro Nikai, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi told ANTARA News here.

  • Bali governor opposes shariah tourism idea

Bali governor opposes shariah tourism idea

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika expressed disagreement to the idea of developing Shariah tourism on the island, citing fears that it could create potential problems.

“I did not agree with it. It will only create problems. Just leave it as it is for now. It has all been going well so far,” he stated after attending a plenary meeting of the regional legislative assembly here on Tuesday.

He pointed out that tourism in Bali has flourished so far.

“Let us not think of strange ideas. It will only create problems. The people have lived peacefully under current conditions so far,” he emphasized.

Chairman of the Shariah Economic Community (MES) Muliaman D. Hadad stated recently after inducting the MES Bali chapter that Bali is the right destination for developing Shariah tourism.

“Bali is fit (for Shariah tourism). So, why not (develop it here). Seven million domestic tourists come to Bali in addition to three million foreign tourists. So, perhaps, there are businessmen here who wish to introduce it in cooperation with the regional government,” he affirmed.

He said that Islam-based tourism has not only been developed in Arab countries but has also been promoted in Asian countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

He pointed out that Thailand had recently won the title of the worlds best Islamic health service tourist destination at an event held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“This is indeed a business opportunity that needs to be tapped. In several cities, Islamic hotels and health service centers have already mushroomed. We have no other intention than to tap the business opportunity. We are talking about religion but also to boost the economy,” he remarked.

Hadad, who is also chairman of the countrys Financial Service Authority (OJK), said the Shariah economy adopts approaches based on the concept of common welfare, so that it could be used by anyone, regardless of their religious background.

  • Where Muslim tourists shop

    Where Muslim tourists shop

Muslim tourists spent $62 billion shopping and dining last year – and Asia got a huge share.

Malaysia and Singapore were the second and third most popular shopping destinations for Muslim tourists last year, lagging behind only Dubai, according to the MasterCard-CrescentRating Muslim Shopping Travel Index 2015 just released.

Fourteen cities from Asia Pacific made it onto the overall list of 40 destinations.

The research shows shopping expenditure by Muslims in 2014 amounted to $36 billion, while dining expenditure amounted to $26 billion

The MTSI 2015 looks at in-depth data covering Muslim travel shopping from 40 international cities creating an overall index, based on a number of criteria. It is the first time detailed insights have been provided on the consumer spending behaviour of Muslim travellers.

The MTSI 2015 is the latest research collaboration between MasterCard and CrescentRating on this sector following the launch of the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2015 earlier this year.

“The MasterCard-CrescentRating Muslim Travel Shopping Index is a fascinating insight into the shopping habits of Muslim consumers and will prove to be an invaluable tool to the entire sector,” said Fazal Bahardeen, CEO of CrescentRating & HalalTrip.

“The research looks at two of the most important expenditure components of Muslim travellers which are shopping and dining. The index reveals how important Asia Pacific is to the sector and the vital contribution they are making.”

The 40 international cities covered in the MTSI 2015 were scored against a comprehensive set of metrics which included suitability as a shopping destination, Muslim friendly services and facilities and ease of travel. Each criterion was then weighted to make up the overall index score.

Dubai topped the ranking for overall Muslim Travel Shopping with a score of 79.5 followed by Kuala Lumpur with a score of 73.3.  Singapore scored 71.6 on the Index making it the number one ranked city from the non-OIC countries and third in the overall list.

Bali also made into the top 10 scoring 58.2 closely followed by Penang with 56.9. In total, Asia Pacific contributed 14 cities to the overall top 40 list.

A significant highlight of the MTSI 2015 was the high number of non-OIC countries featuring in the top 40 list.

Singapore, secured a rank among the top five overall destinations for Muslim traveller shopping.  This further revealed the potential for non-OIC destinations, with 25 on the list, to attract Muslim travellers by proactively catering to this segment.

Earlier this year, the GMTI 2015 showed that in 2014, the Muslim travel segment was worth $145 billion with 108 million Muslim travellers representing 10 per cent of the entire travel economy.

This is forecasted to grow to 150 million visitors by 2020 and 11 per cent of the market segment with a market value projected to grow to $200 billion.

MTSI 2015 will be updated on an annual basis and will feature more cities in future releases.

“The MTSI 2015 provides a deeper look at two key components of the traveler consumer experience – shopping and dining. We see this as an important resource not only for us to better understand this significant and fast-growing traveller segment, but also a source of data that will inform and support the efforts of our partners in the travel industry,” said Matthew Driver, group executive, global products and solutions, Asia Pacific, MasterCard.

  • Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quiksilver Continue to Preserve Bali’s Beach Ecosystems

Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quiksilver Continue to Preserve Bali’s Beach Ecosystems

As one of the most popular destinations in the world, Bali represents Indonesia on the global scene. To contribute in keeping Bali’s beaches clean and safe, Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quiksilver are holding Bali’s Big Eco Weekend 2015 from August 14-16, inviting local communities, the government, visitors and industry players of Bali to renew the commitment and take real action to tackle the waste problem in Bali.

Bali’s Big Eco Weekend is an annual campaign of the regular Bali Beach Clean-Up, both initiated by Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (CCAI) and Quiksilver as continuous efforts to bring more attention to Bali’s environmental state and drive more support for the Bali government’s program in creating a ‘Clean and Green Bali’.

“We’ve invested in the programs since 2007 and it has been a very good collaboration between Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia, Quiksilver, the Bali government and local communities. While the regular beach cleaning has been contributing impact, through Bali’s Big Eco Weekend we are still calling for more support from everyone in Bali, including both the growing citizens and tourists,” says Kadir Gunduz, President Director of Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia.

“At Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia, we believe that we have roles and responsibilities in helping to create a sustainable environment anywhere we operate. It’s about all of us making the right decisions and taking real actions. We are pleased with the strong support we are getting, especially today. We hope that the commitment will only grow stronger, so together we can continue to preserve our ecosystem,” Kadir adds.

This year’s Bali’s Big Eco Weekend marks the 8th year of Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia’s and Quiksilver’s commitment to keeping Bali’s beaches clean & safe. Started in 2007, Bali Beach Clean Up (BBCU) empowers the local communities in Bali by hiring 78 local workers and providing them with regular training in waste management and clean environment awareness. As front-liners, BBCU workers run daily clean-up in 5 iconic beaches in Bali (Jimbaran, Legian, Kuta, Seminyak, Kedonganan) and maximize the clean-up facilities which include 3 surf rakes, 3 garbage trucks, 4 beach tractors, and at least 150 new bins per year. The total amount of waste collected through the program has reached more than 29 million kilograms as of July 2015.

“We are glad that the collaboration in keeping Bali clean and safe has been going well for 8 years. This cements Quiksilver’s passion and involvement in promoting eco conservation to ensure that Bali’s beautiful beaches and waterways will stay clean and safe for many years to come,” says Paul Hutson, General Manager of Quiksilver South Pacific. “We have Quiksilver’s global athletes joining the Bali’s Big Eco Weekend this year, and everyone is excited to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day long weekend on the beaches of Jimbaran, Legian and Uluwatu.”

Joining the thousands of visitors in rolling up their sleeves and collecting waste on Jimbaran Beach and Padma Beach Legian are Dadang Rizki Ratman, Directorate General for Tourism Destination Development, Ministry of Tourism; Rijaluzzaman, Head of Centre of Development Monitoring on Eco-region of Bali and Nusa Tenggara; Ketut Wija, Deputy Economic & Development of Bali Province; and Quiksilver global athletes, including world champions Mark Richards (4X World Champion), Tom Carroll (2X World Champion), Jake Paterson, Matt Hoy, Kelia Moniz (2X Longboarding World Champion), and Torah Bright (Olympic Gold Medallist).

Appreciating the attendance, Alison Watkins, Managing Director of Coca-Cola Amatil Group, says the special effort to participate in this iconic weekend supports both Bali’s and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia’s commitment to running business and growing together with communities in Bali.

In 2010, Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quiksilver built the Kuta Beach Sea Turtles Conservation (KBSTC) in a commitment to support a safe environment. Since then, the number of eggs collected has significantly increased from 1,947 eggs in 6 years (2002-2008), to 122,230 eggs in the next 6 years (2009-2015). The Bali’s Big Eco Weekend crowd today participated in releasing approximately 1,000 baby sea turtles back to the sea.

The turtle release wrapped up a day of various eco activities including ROXY Challenge Run-Sup-Yoga, meet and greet with the ROXY surf team, Coke Kicks, lifeguard race, fun sea turtle release, CSR exhibition, Kecak dance performance, and the renowned beach clean-up. On Sunday, visitors are welcome to join the surfing legends in WSL Quiksilver Uluwatu Surf Challenge 2015, also part of the Bali’s Big Eco Weekend, proudly co-sponsored by Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Australian Embassy Jakarta.

  • Indonesia orders new Bali airport closure due to volcano

Indonesia orders new Bali airport closure due to volcano

Indonesian authorities ordered a fresh shutdown of the airport on the resort island of Bali today, sparking flight cancellations and travel misery for tourists during peak holiday season.

Transport ministry spokesman J A Barata said Ngurah Rai airport would be closed for several hours from midday (0930 IST) due to ash drifting from Mount Raung, on Indonesia’s main Java island.

Australian carriers Jetstar and Virgin Australia announced they were canceling flights in and out of Bali today, a popular holiday destination that attracts millions of tourists from around the world every year.

The closure was the fourth shutdown of Bali airport in recent weeks due to the volcano, which has been spewing ash and lava high into the air since late June.

The disruption has come during peak holiday season, leaving thousands of tourists stranded.

The most serious period was between July 9 and 12, when two closures forced almost 900 flights to be canceled or delayed and created a backlog that took days to clear.

Indonesian government vulcanologist Gede Suantika told AFP that the volcano was today shooting out ash clouds that were larger than those it had recently been emitting.

“The volcano normally shoots out ash 700 to 800 metres but it’s around 1,000 metres today,” he said.

Air traffic is regularly disrupted by volcanic eruptions in Indonesia, which sits on a belt of seismic activity running around the basin of the Pacific Ocean and is home to the highest number of active volcanoes in the world, around 130.

  • Bali prime residential prices up 15% last year

Bali prime residential prices up 15% last year

Prime residential prices on Bali surged 15 per cent last year, the most among comparable destinations tracked by broker Knight Frank LLP. The cost of villas on the Spanish island of Ibiza climbed 5 per cent and those in Italy’s autonomous region of Sardinia fell 8 per cent, the report said.

Bali’s gains are set to continue as Indonesia’s government this week begins to discuss revising rules to allow foreigners to directly own luxury apartments in the archipelago, with hopes of implementing changes within two to three months.

Mr Nathan Ryan, owner of property brokerage Bali Realty, expects interest from China and Singapore once the revisions are made.

“Asian buyers are no doubt a sleeping giant for Indonesia,” Mr Ryan said from Kerobokan, an area north of Kuta known for its surf and nightlife. “These buyers have plenty of money, but they are turned away by the leasehold property options, as they would prefer to be able to buy freehold.”

Currently, foreigners can get around the ban against owning real estate in Indonesia by using local citizens as proxies or by structuring the purchase as a long-term lease.

The government will coordinate with the immigration and tax offices to draft the revisions, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil said last Thursday

Under the proposed amendments, foreigners will be allowed to buy only luxury apartments and not landed property.

Property prices in Jakarta rose 11 per cent in March from a year earlier, Knight Frank data shows. That is the biggest gain in Asia after Bengaluru in India, where real estate costs climbed 13.6 per cent.

“If you look at how close Jakarta is to Singapore and given that a lot of Singaporeans also work in Indonesia, there will be interest from Singaporeans,” said Ms Christine Li, director of research for Singapore at Cushman & Wakefield.

  • Bangli holds Balinese Jewelry Fair

    Bangli holds Balinese Jewelry Fair

The district of Bangli, Bali Province, is holding a Balinese jewelry fair at the Taman Budaya (Cultural Park), here, during the 37th Bali Art Festival being organized from June 13 to July 11, 2015.

“We display hundreds of Balinese traditional jewelry to introduce them to the public. Bali has various kinds of unique and attractive jewelry,” Ni Wayan Rusmiati, a Balinese jewelry businesswoman, said here, Sunday.

The price range of Balinese jewelry being offered during the festival is from Rp35 thousand to Rp1.5 million.

She, however, complained that most visitors to the jewelry fair were just window-shopping.
