    Cebu Pacific flight soars from Masbate to Manila for 1st time

    The first and inaugural commercial flight of the Cebu Pacific connecting Masbate province to Manila flew on Tuesday morning, the Department of Tourism Bicol regional Director Maria Nini Ong-Ravanilla said.

    Seventy-six (76) passenger flights between Masbate and Manila have been flying daily since Feb. 15 (Wednesday), said Alexander Lao, CEO/President of the Cebgo,

    “This is the first time Cebu Pacific is flying Manila to Masbate (and vice versa). With this commercial flight, it will boost tourism, investment and business generation,” Ravanilla said on Wednesday.

    Two commercial airlines are now flying in Masbate.  The  other is Philippine Airlines.

    She said the additional flights would surely increase the tourist arrivals for Masbate. In 2015, Masbate hit the target of 262,850 tourist arrivals with a marked increase of six percent over previous records.

    “The data show that 300,000 are achievable with this development. Masbate is confident to hit its target of 350,000 tourist arrivals,” Ravanilla added.

    Cebu Pacific adds new aircraft

    Cebu Pacific Air (CEB), through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Cebgo, recently accepted delivery of its third ATR 72-600 High Capacity aircraft. This is the first ATR 72-600 delivered for this year, bringing the airline’s total fleet to 58.

    The carrier also chose the lightest aircraft seats in the world, Expliseat, for all 16 aircraft, two of which are already being utilised by CEB. The titanium seat, which is a technological breakthrough registered under 16 patents, made of ultralight materials such as titanium and carbon composite resources, is expected to help decrease fuel burn while allowing the carriage of more guests and cargo on board.

    The brand-new ATR 72-600 will be utilised for the two new routes CEB will be launching on February 15: Manila to Masbate and Manila to Tablas. “We are glad to take delivery of another brand-new ATR 72-600, especially since this is the first to have the titanium seats from Expliseat installed. This aircraft therefore combines reduced seat costs while optimising comfort for passengers,” said Alexander Lao, president and CEO of Cebgo.

    Today, CEB operates one of the youngest and most modern aircraft fleets in the world with an average age of 4.92 years.  This new ATR 72-600 will be used to support CEB’s expansion plans in the archipelago, now servicing 37 domestic destinations flying out of six strategically-placed hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, Iloilo, Kalibo, and Davao. CEB also offers flights to 29 international destinations, covering an extensive network that spans Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and US.
    CEB now operates a 58-strong fleet comprising four Airbus A319, 36 Airbus A320, seven Airbus A330, eight ATR 72-500, and three ATR 72-600 aircraft. Between 2017 and 2021, CEB expects delivery of one more brand-new Airbus A330, 32 Airbus A321neo, and 13 ATR 72-600 aircraft.

    Cebu Pacific says it flew 19 million passengers in 2016

    Cebu Pacific, the country’s largest airline, said Friday it flew 19.1 million passengers in 2016, a 4-percent increase from the previous year on the back of its short-haul services.

    The airline said it set a new record for most passengers flown in a single day, 64,638 on Dec. 27, 2016.

    Cebu Pacific said there was “notable” growth in passengers to Beijing, Xiamen, Taipei, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh among international destinations.

    Locally, passengers increased in Cauayan, Siargao and Ozamiz, the airline said.

    Philippine Airlines awards five-year DF contract to ISG

    Inflight Sales Group (ISG) founder and CEO Jean-Marcel Rouff has confirmed that the retailer has been awarded a five-year contract to operate the Philippine Airlines (PAL) duty free contract.

    This follows the narrowing down of the list of bidders to a final three in mid-2016, led by ISG, DFASS and the Regent Travel Retail Group in partnership with Duty Free Philippines’ ground shops.

    As exclusively reported last July, the airline amended the concession length from three to five years with the inclusion of a two-year extension, according to Resty Tizon, Inflight Duty Free Director who handled the process last year.

    INTEREST WAS HIGH IN THIS LONG-RUNNING TENDER

    At that time she confirmed to TRBusiness that there were additional companies who showed initial interest in the contract, but ultimately decided not to bid. These were Tourvest Duty Free and Lagardère Travel Retail.

    According to the airline, the average spend onboard last year was around $2, although the airline has been trying to attract more Chinese passengers.

    In the last 18 months it has also acquired several new aircraft, including five Airbus 321 planes and two B777s. This year it is also due to take delivery of another two A321s.

    NEW ROUTES – MORE INTERNATIONAL PASSENGERS

    On January 1 this year, Philippine Airlines also launched its first international flight from Clark Airport, marking its new policy to try and spread more international connectivity outside the heavily congested capital city of Manila.

    PAL also launched a second new non-stop service to Singapore from Mactan-Cebu Airport in December 2016.

    In addition to the duty free contract to sell goods onboard, PAL has also increased the number of products now available through its Philippine Airlines Boutique online store.

    This offers online purchasing of ‘lifestyle merchandise’, including special hotel deals, car rentals, tours and recreation packages, fashion items and gadgets.

    Cebu Pacific adds flights to Siargao

    Cebu Pacific (CEB), through its wholly owned subsidiary Cebgo, increased flight frequencies to Siargao, the Surfing Capital of the Philippines.

    Starting February 1, Cebgo passengers will be able to choose from 12 weekly flights between Cebu and Siargao. From April 2017 onwards, guests can book up to twice daily Cebu-Siargao flights.

    Siargao lies in Surigao Del Norte in Mindanao, and is home to world-renowned surfing breaks. The most well-known of these is the Cloud 9, which is where the annual Siargao Cup is held every September. It was also recognized as CNN’s ninth best surf spot in the world.

    “With these additional frequencies, not only do we boost traffic to Siargao from Cebu, but we are also able to strengthen Cebu as a hub, while giving everyJuan more chances to explore one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines,” Alexander Lao, President and CEO for Cebgo, said.

    CEB’s Cebu hub was recently strengthened with the launch of direct flights to Ormoc, Roxas and Calbayog.  CEB continues to increase connectivity between Cebu and other destinations such as Tandag, Camiguin and Clark, among others.  Overall, it operates direct flights to 25 domestic destinations and 5 international destinations from Cebu.

    PTT Philippines to supply Cebu Pacific’s jet fuel for 2017

    PTT Philippines has renewed its deal to supply the bulk of Cebu Pacific airline’s fuel requirements this year. The local unit of the Thailand petroleum company will supply 1, 680,000 US barrel (267 million liters) of aviation fuel to Cebu Pacific for 2017.

    “We are always grateful to have partnered with Cebu Air. Our partnership has been growing stronger that is anchored on trust, loyalty, and commitment to providing the best and quality products and services that we could afford them,” PTT Philippines president and CEO Sukanya Seriyothin said.

    Seriyothin and Cebu Pacific president and CEO Lance Gokongwei recently signed the fuel supply contract for 2017.

    PTT Philippines has been supplying Cebu Pac’s jet fuel for over 10 years, and currently accounts for most of the airline’s total jet fuel requirements, particularly flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Diosdado Macapagal Airport in Clark, and its Visayas routes.

    The local unit recently hiked its five-year investment plan to P5 billion for the expansion of its retail network to 300 and the Amazon Café brand from 2017 to 2021.

    The Thailand-based oil firm has been in the country for 20 years and is into retail with over 100 service stations across Luzon and Cebu. Its wholesale business also serves the maritime industry.

    Cebu Pacific to open Cagayan de Oro-Bacolod flights

    CEBU Pacific announced Monday that its Cagayan de Oro City-Bacolod City route will start on March 16. For this new route, the airline will have three flights per week specifically on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Cebu Pacific said in a press statement this is one of the two routes it is launching in the next two months.

    The other one is between Cagayan de Oro and Tagbilaran City starting March 15, with four flights weekly every Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Both new routes will be using the new ATR 72-600 aircraft expected to arrive in early March. To introduce these routes, the airline said it is offering an introductory P799 all-in seat sale for those who will travel from March 15 to May 31. Travelers may now book their flights until January 27, or until seats last.

    The promo fare is inclusive of taxes and fees. Bags, meals, and other ancillaries may be added as preferred, it added. Alexander Lao, president and chief executive of Cebgo, said the new routes will open great opportunities for “every Juan” both business and leisure travelers, enabling them to visit the Visayas region more conveniently.

    At the same time, passengers from Tagbilaran and Bacolod will now be able to explore Mindanao without the hassle, through the gateway that is Cagayan de Oro, Lao said. “Cebu Pacific stays committed in providing the best connectivity options for our valued passengers at the lowest fare available in the market,” Lao said. After the sale period, the one-way trip from Cagayan de Oro to Bacolod would cost P1,806; and Cagayan de Oro to Tagbilaran, P1, 235.     Cebu Pacific opens 2 new Mindanao routes with seat sale

    Cebu Pacific, the country’s largest airline, said Monday it was launching two new routes from Cagayan de Oro City, as it expands in Mindanao.

    Cebu Pacific said it would fly four times weekly (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) between Cagayan de Oro and Tagbilaran City from March 15, and thrice weekly (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) between Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod starting March 16.

    The airline said it was offering an introductory P799 all-in rate for travel from March 15 to May 31.

    New ATR 72-600 aircraft for the two routes, Cebu Pacific said.

    Cebu Pacific suspends Manila-Laoag flights temporarily

    Cebu Pacific, the country’s largest carrier, has temporarily suspended flights between the capital and the northern city of Laoag, a government spokesman said Monday.

    The company did not give a reason for its decision, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines spokesman Eric Apolonio told.

    Cebu Pacific did not immediately reply to requests for comment. Separate searches on the carrier’s website and mobile app showed no available flights between Manila and Laoag this week.

    “They (Cebu Pacific) advised CAAP that they are temporarily suspending flights. That’s their exact word. We don’t know the reason yet because it’s internal,” Apolonio said.

    Passenger traffic in the Manila-Laoag route reached 204,550 in 2015 and was poised to have risen slightly last year after traffic hit 109,550 in the first six months of 2016, before the peak holiday travel period, Apolonio said citing CAAP data.

    With Cebu Pacific suspending flights, the route will be left to Philippine Airlines and its low-cost unit PAL Express.

    Cebu Pacific collects donation for sick children

    Low-cost airline Cebu Pacific strengthens its partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund to reach millions of undernourished children in the country.

    The endeavor is a part of the global organization’s Change for Good program which accepts contributions from passengers on board flights of partner airlines.

    Proceeds contribute to the UN children’s agency’s First 1,000 Days campaign which provides optimal nutrition, from a mother’s pregnancy to a child’s second year of life.

    Since July 1, 2016, Cebu Pacific began accepting contributions of all currencies from passengers. The contributions are being used to fund nutritional supplements distributed to poor households with pregnant mothers or malnourished children. A portion of the funds also support barangay-level information drives on nutrition in Unicef’s focus areas in Northern Samar, Zamboanga and Maguindanao.

    “We are very pleased with how warmly our passengers are receiving the Change for Good Program. Thank you for sharing in our vision of a better future for our children and in Unicef’s advocacy of uplifting lives through the First 1,000 Days campaign,” says Cebu Pacific president and chief executive Lance Gokongwei.

    “Children have the right to survive and thrive. It is important for all of us to pitch in and lift each other up, so that every Filipino child grows up happy and healthy. Your continued support to UNICEF will help make this happen,” says Unicef Philippines representative Lotta Sylwander.

    Sylwander explains the transformative impact of these small acts of generosity. “The nutrition received by children from the womb to their second birthday is crucial for their physical and intellectual development. If these children are able to grow to their full extent, they perform better in school and eventually get better jobs as adults.” A healthy and productive workforce, Sylwander says, is key to nation-building.

    In the Philippines, around four million Filipino children are “stunted.” These children are undernourished, causing irreversible damage to their health, physical growth and brain development.

    The global program Change for Good targets these children by cashing in donations for life-saving materials and services for vulnerable children in more than 150 countries.

    Cebu Pacific has piloted the program in the East Asia and the Pacific region and focuses its collection efforts exclusively to Unicef Philippines’ First 1000 Days program.

    Cebu Pacific carries 17.5 M passengers in 11 months

    The number of passengers carried by Cebu Pacific and subsidiary Cebgo rose five percent in the first 11 months of last year.

    Latest operating statistics data available showed the group served 17.48 million passengers in the 11-month period last year, up from the 16.68 million passengers carried in the same period in 2015.

    The group’s capacity was unchanged at 20.32 million as of end-November, while seat load factor climbed 3.9 percentage points to 86 percent last year from 82.1 percent in 2015.

    Despite the higher passenger volume for the January to November period, the group’s total number of flights declined slightly to 120,617 in the 11-month period from the previous year’s 121,009.

    For the month of November, the Cebu Pacific group had a total of 1.48 million passengers last year, an uptick of 1.2 percent from the 1.46 million passengers in 2015.

    Cebu Pacific group’s capacity declined to 1.70 million in November last year from 1.71 million a year earlier, while seat load factor went up to 87.1 percent last year from 85.7 percent in 2015.

    Cebu Pacific looking to hire 300 cabin crew

    Cebu Pacific, the country’s largest carrier, said Thursday it would recruit up to 300 new cabin crew as it expands its operations.

    Cebu Pacific will hold recruitment fairs in Manila, Tagbilaran, and Dumaguete this month to grow its workforce of 4,000, the airline said in a statement.

    Applicants should possess a “dynamic personality,” must be at least 5’3″ for women and 5’7″ for men, have clear complexion, a “catchy smile” and “weight that is proportional to height,” the airline said.

    The recruitment fairs will be held at the Cebu Pacific Building, Pasay City on January 14; La Residencia Almar Hotel, Rizal Blvd., Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on January 28; and Metro Centre Hotel and Convention Center, C.P. Garcia Ave., Tagbilaran City, Bohol on January 29.

    Cebu Pacific’s net profit amounted to P7.1 billion in the January to September period of 2016 as passenger volume grew to 14.5 million in the nine-month period in 2016 from 13.7 million in 2015.

    Shares of the airline closed 0.11 percent lower to P92.90 on Thursday.

    Cebu Pacific launches Cebu-Ormoc daily flights

    The long wait has been over for travelers from this northwestern part of Leyte going to Cebu, following the opening of daily flights.

    The 35-minute Cebu-Ormoc-Cebu flight had its inaugural flight on Saturday and carried 54 passengers from Ormoc City.

    ATR-72-500 aircraft of Cebu Pacific arrived in Ormoc at past 8 a.m. from Cebu on its initial trip carrying 31 passengers, including Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez. Minutes later, it left for Cebu with 54 commuters.

    Cebu Pacific’s 72-seater plane serves daily flights with scheduled departure at 8:42 a.m.

    This development opens doors towards boosting the city’s economic endeavors and benefits its tourism industry. The city government has been very vocal of the mayor’s vision, making tourism as his priority.

    Gracing the opening program were city Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin Jr., Trina Dacuycuy of the Department of Tourism regional office, Cebu Pacific Vice President for Visayas Alex Reyes, and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Eastern Visayas area manager Danilo Abareta.

    Abareta said the daily air trip from Ormoc to Cebu is a better and faster alternative.

    “The faster delivery of cargo will surely boost the economic activities of the city, including nearby towns,” he added.

    Abareta lauded the city council, which vowed to rehabilitate the road access going to the airport and improve the airport parking.

    The terminal building is likewise up for improvement for which he encouraged the authorities to expedite.

    Locsin, who read the message of Mayor Gomez, said “the city thanked Cebu Pacific for placing trust and confidence in the city wherein part of the vision is to promote tourism.”

    The city formed the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (AvSegroup) for vital security at the airport.

    On its inaugural flight, Cebu Pacific offered promo fare at PHP599, inclusive with PHP500 terminal fee at Ormoc airport.
