Ferrari Will Expand Its Line-up Of Road Cars

Italian premium sports car maker Ferrari NV will expand sales of easier-driving grand touring cars, but will not try to chase rival Porsche’s annual sales volume, Ferrari Chairman John Elkann told an audience of classic car enthusiasts gathered at this storied golf resort on the Pacific coast.

Elkann also reiterated that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, of which he is chairman, remains open to opportunities to combine with other automakers, but is positioned to remain independent. Fiat Chrysler in May proposed a merger with French automaker Renault SA, but the deal fell apart after the French government intervened and Elkann withdrew the proposed merger.

Fiat Chrysler Chief Executive Mike Manley sent the same message to Renault and other would-be partners earlier this month. Elkann visited Pebble Beach during the annual Concours d’Elegance, during which wealthy collectors bring some of the world’s rarest vintage automobiles to be admired – and sold – and premium manufacturers showcase exotic new models.

Ferrari is best known for flashy, high-performance sports cars. Among fans of vintage Ferraris, more understated GT, or grand touring, cars from the 1960s, some with seating for four people, are among the most popular models on auction blocks and at enthusiast events. GT cars were designed to be comfortable on long road trips.

Elkann hinted Ferrari will unveil a new GT type car in November. Ferrari has said previously that about 40 percent of its total sales could come from GT cars by 2022, up from 32 percent now.

Ferrari has outlined plans to expand revenue to 5 billion euros ($5.54 billion) by 2022 from 3.4 billion euros in 2017. The company has said it plans to add a model called the Purosangue to compete with a growing stable of sport utility vehicles wearing premium sports car brands, such as the Lamborghini Urus.

Rival Porsche AG, a unit of Volkswagen AG, has expanded its sales to more than 250,000 sports cars and sport utility vehicles annually. Elkann said Ferrari is not aiming for Porsche’s level of sales.

  • Ferrari Hybrid Supercar Teased

    Ferrari Hybrid Supercar Teased

Ferrari always gets our adrenaline pumping with its new models and this time it’s a new hybrid supercar. Just a day ahead of its unveil the Italian supercar maker took to Twitter to tease its upcoming model. Ferrari supercars have undergone significant powertrain upgrades in the last decade. The Ferrari 488 GTB was its first turbocharged model and this one will be the first hybrid supercar after the gorgeous La Ferrari hypercar and is expected to break cover on May 29.

The silhouette of the car looks very similar to the track-focused Ferrari 488 Pista and F8 Tributo. However, in the teaser video it looks even more angular with a razor-sharp profile which makes it distinctive and different from other Ferraris. The angular headlamps look sleek and at the rear it gets the quad taillight setup. There is a massive diffuser underneath the dual-exhaust pipes, similar to what we have seen in the Tributo. Then there is also the integrated spoiler for drag efficiency.

The new supercar is expected to launch with a 3.9-litre bi-turbo V8 motor which will be coupled with three electric motors. Two of them will be mounted on the front axle while the third one will be integrated into the gearbox to optimize the shifts. It will be offered with an all-wheel-drive setup and the powertrain in combination is expected to put out a whopping maximum output of 972 bhp which will help it clocking triple-digit speed in less than 2.0 seconds.

  • Ferrari Considering Netflix And esports Involvement

Ferrari Considering Netflix And esports Involvement

Ferrari is considering engaging with Netflix on a second Formula One documentary as well as joining the rest of the 10 teams in the esports world championship, team boss Mattia Binotto said on Friday. Ferrari and champions Mercedes did not cooperate on the successful ‘Drive to Survive’ 10-part fly-on-the-wall series filmed by Netflix last season, arguing that they needed to focus on the title battle. When their cars or drivers did feature, it was from the official world feed television footage.”It’s certainly an interesting program. We were not participating last season as Ferrari,” Binotto told reporters at the Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 21 race championship.

“We are considering it at the moment. We have not taken our final decision, so it’s something we will do in the next few weeks.”

Formula One’s managing director Sean Bratches said this month that he expected a second series to go ahead, with filming already underway. Ferrari is the only ones without a presence in the official F1 esports championship, which is in its third season and involves the teams only later in the year. Mercedes won both titles last year, as in the real world.

Binotto said Ferrari’s stance on that could change as well.

“Esport is increasing in terms of interest and certainly as Ferrari, we are looking seriously into it,” he said.

“We are not yet fully committed to the program but it’s something where the discussions are ongoing and we will very soon make our own decision.”

  • Automobili Pininfarina’s SUV PF1 Will Compete Against Ferrari & Lamborghini

Automobili Pininfarina’s SUV PF1 Will Compete Against Ferrari & Lamborghini

It was at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that Mahindra-owned Pininfarina unveiled its first production hypercar – the Battista and we got know a lot about the car as well; of course we told you all about it too. While the company wants to keep the production of the Battista limited, there’s no denying that there will be people who would want to get their hands behind the wheel of one. The Battista stands out amongst the others in this segment and yes, there are quite a few hypercars entering this segment very quickly, but of course, Pininfarina is not stopping there and it’s already embarking on its next project an SUV or as Automobili Pininfarina CEO, Michael Perschke likes to call a ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’

He confirmed the development on the sidelines of the 2019 Geneva Motorshow. He said, “The board sanctioned 3 to 4 cars including the Battista. The second one is probably going to be somewhere between a Lamborghini Urus and a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. A super spectacular sports activity vehicle which is probably closer to a sports car than an SUV.”
While there’s no doubting why the company is diving into the SUV segment, considering how big a global trend the segment is; it’s interesting to see Pininfarina taking the bull by the horns and streamlining its strategy for the Indian market. While it’s currently under development, and hence not much is known about it, of course, there are some details that Perschke threw some light on. He said “It’s going to have 4 seats, maybe 5 people can sit in, but it’s going to be super functional, super emotional, superb designwise and it’; be a little higher, little longer than the Battista and it’s going to be super exciting and we have to do justice to this brand.”

The SUV is called the PF1 for now and will go up against the likes of the Lamborghini Urus and even the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and it’s likely to come with more than 1000 bhp and of course it’ll be all electric. It’s likely that the company will borrow Rivian’s modular skateboard platform for the PF1 SUV and while there’s no formal announcement yet on that development, it’s likely that the powertrain for this will come from Rimac. We can’t wait to know more about the PF1 soon.

  • Ferrari optimistic about Indonesian sales

    Ferrari optimistic about Indonesian sales

Citra Langgeng Otomotif, Indonesia’s authorized Ferrari distributor, is optimistic about its sales prospects this year as it continues to strengthen its presence within its specific target market, which has remained relatively immune to the sluggish growth of the the country’s automotive industry.

The company’s CEO, Arie Christopher, said Ferrari had personally approached its existing and prospective customers to increase the exclusivity of its brand.

One of the aspects of its exclusivity is maintaining the confidentiality of prices of Ferrari’s vehicles in Indonesia, which are discussed solely between the company and its customers.

“So far, we are still on track in sales,” he told on Saturday, declining to disclose the sales value recorded in 2017.

Indonesia’s car sales stood at 1.08 million units in 2017, a mere 1.6 percent growth over the previous year, according to data from the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo) show.

On Saturday, Ferrari Indonesia showcased the California T “Superameric,” with livery number 16 and the 488 GTB “Test Driver” with livery number 63 to promote the manufacturer’s global tailor-made customization program.

The tailor-made program allows customers to customize the interior and exterior appearances of their new Ferraris.

Arie said the company had delivered 20 tailor-made customized Ferrari cars to Indonesian customers, with six of them agreeing to sign up with the program.

Ferrari to recall 621 vehicles in China due to defective airbags

Italian luxury car maker Ferrari will recall 621 imported vehicles in China due to defective airbags, the country’s top quality watchdog said.

The recall, set to begin on September 15, affects Italia- series cars made between March 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011, and California-series vehicles manufactured between April 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011, according to the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
