    Knows more : Rahul Singh, Founder & CEO, The Beer Café India

    With multiple awards like; Images Coca Cola Golden Spoon Award, India Restaurant Congress Award, Times Nightlife Award and ET Now Business and Service Excellence Award, the consumer and industry has recognized this startup as a blockbuster. Singh is the recipient of the TiECON 2010 Entrepreneurial Award for Excellence and holds the position of the Honorary Secretary for the NRAI (National Restaurant Association of India). He was also bestowed with the Prestigious Entrepreneur India 2015 Award in F&B services.

    Before he started The Beer Café, Singh was CEO, Greg Norman Collection India from 2007-09. In that role he spearheaded the brand’s operations involving sales, marketing and manufacturing.

    Prior to 2007, he was the Executive Director at Reebok India for 8 years and was a part of their leadership team, also setup a robust sourcing base for exports from South Asia.

    As a textile engineer, he brings in an analytical approach to each line of enterprise that he gets into. He has undergone training in draught beer technology at Micromatic Institute in Florida, USA.

    Indonesia’s Traveloka Co-Founder Resigns

    Indonesian unicorn startup Traveloka announced the resignation of its co-founder, Derianto Kusuma, from his position as chief technology officer on Tuesday. Derianto was one of three persons involved in the establishment in February 2012 of the online ticketing and hotel booking service, which has since become one of the leading tech companies in Southeast Asia.

    “Deri has played an unparalleled role in Traveloka’s development and success by building, scaling, and making not only sustainable technology capability and systems but also a sustainable organization,” said Ferry Unardi, chief executive and co-founder of Traveloka.

    Following his exit from the company, Derianto took to online publishing platform Medium to write about his journey. In his post, he wrote about what drove him to start the company and the actual implementation of different business models throughout the nearly seven years since Traveloka was founded.

    He also touched on why he decided it was best for him to leave.

    “A few years ago, the battle started to show trends towards being more commercially than innovation-driven, predatory than productive, perception-oriented than fundamentals-oriented,” Derianto wrote.

    With these new trends, Derianto felt that his duty – building the technological foundation – had been fulfilled.

    “Two years ago, I ensured Traveloka had strong technological, organizational foundations built for scale and sustainability, and put in place a solid senior team that can take them forward,” Derianto wrote.

    Though Derianto wrote that he would be spending more time with family and friends after resigning, he said he “yearns” to develop a new venture in a noncompeting category, a technology that would “fundamentally transform society.”

    “I’m glad that we have finally reached this milestone where I believe it’s a win-win for everyone involved,” Derianto wrote.

    Ted Baker CEO and founder Ray Kelvin to take leave of absence

    Ted Baker chief executive and founder Ray Kelvin has taken a voluntary leave of absence after “further serious allegations” around his conduct were brought to light. These allegations were brought to the attention of an independent committee of non-executive directors created to investigate harassment claims made by multiple anonymous staff members that Kelvin had expected them to hug him and sit on his lap when he would visit stores.

    The committee appointed Herbert Smith Freehills LLP to conduct an independent external investigation into the claims.

    Kelvin agreed it would be best for the business, and the people who work in it, if he were to take a voluntary leave of absence for the duration of the investigation.

    Chief operating officer Lindsay Page has been appointed acting chief executive with immediate effect.

    Ted Baker non-executive chairman David Bernstein noted the business remains in a strong position to deliver on its strategy, despite the negative media reports.

    The investigation stems from a petition created on website Organise, through which multiple Ted Baker employees made workplace harassment claims about the founder.

    “Together our pressure exposed what was happening at the highest level. Now, over 100 anonymised reports of harassment are sat with Ted Baker’s board,” Organise said in a blog post about the matter.

    Kelvin said that he grew up with such practices, and that it was “good old-fashioned stuff”.

    AirAsia X names new CEO to take over from Founders

    Malaysia’s long-haul budget carrier AirAsia X on Thursday appointed Nadda Buranasiri as its new group chief executive officer to take over from its co-founders. Buranasiri, chief executive of the Thai arm of AirAsia X since 2014, will replace co-CEOs and co-founders Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun with immediate effect, the company said in a statement. Fernandes and Kamarudin will become non-executive directors.

    In July, Fernandes said AirAsia X was looking to restructure itself into a group holding company along the lines of affiliate AirAsia Group Bhd .

    He had also said AirAsia X would focus on flying to countries where it would dominate routes, such as Japan, Korea, Australia, China and India, and remove what he called peripheral routes where no growth was seen.

    AirAsia X reported a loss for the June quarter, weighed down by higher fuel prices.

    Flappy Bird creator lends a wing to Vietnamese startups

    ‘Just propose those projects to me, no matter how bad it is,’ Nguyen Ha Dong writes on Facebook. The overnight success of mobile game Flappy Bird has turned its creator Nguyen Ha Dong into a star of the local startup scene.

    The game, hailed by the industry as one of the milestones of Vietnam’s startup history, has brought Dong great fame and fortune, all within a short period of time.

    Now Dong is making a pledge to pay it forward and fund Vietnamese startups in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence, social services, community development and education.

    “Just propose those projects to me, no matter how bad it is,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

    He did not give specific details about mentoring and funding.

    Flappy Bird was released in May 2013 with little fanfare. By February 2014, the sleeper hit topped the charts in more than 100 countries and had been downloaded more than 50 million times. Dong reportedly earned an estimated $50,000 a day.

    The Vietnamese government has seen successes like Flappy Bird as an encouraging sign. It is trying hard to cultivate a startup scene where tech entrepreneurs can create products and services that will go global.

    Unlike the well-developed startup ecosystem in most other countries, where there are venture capitalists and a strong network of entrepreneurs working together, the system in Vietnam is at a fledgling stage, with many funding difficulties.

    SM founder Sy receives lifetime achievement award

    Enterprise Asia, a non-governmental organization based in Malaysia that organizes the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA), honored retail pioneer Henry Sy, Sr. with a Lifetime Achievement Award last Dec. 1 at a ceremony held at the Dusit Thani Manila. Sy is the first and only Filipino to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from Enterprise Asia, which is on its third year of organizing the awards in the Philippines.

    The APEA recognizes and honors business leaders who have shown outstanding performance and tenacity in developing successful businesses within the Asian region. The awards also aim to gather leading entrepreneurs across Asia to spur greater innovation, fair practices and growth in entrepreneurship. Today, the award covers Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, China and the Philippines.

    “On behalf of Mr. Henry Sy, Sr. and his family, we thank Enterprise Asia for this honor and prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award,” Mr. Jose T. Sio, SM Investments Corporation (SM) executive vice president and chief finance officer said. Among the notable recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award for the past 10 years were: Yeoh Tiong Lay, the founder of YTL Corporation, the largest conglomerate in Malaysia;Teh Hong Piow, the founder of Public Bank Berhad, one of the largest banks in Malaysia; Food magnate Sam Goi, chairman of Tee Yih Jia Group of Singapore; Ciputra of PT.     Sy is the founding Chairman of SM. To many, he is the Father of Philippine Retail, having successfully built SM into a dominant player in the country’s retail industry with its highly progressive and innovative approach. Like his Chinese name predicted and with his vision, passion and hard work, Mr. Sy transformed Shoemart, from a humble shoe store, into SM, now a highly recognizable brand and icon with interests and presence in retail, banking, and property development.
