  • Facebook’s mobile cloud gaming service now covers the entire US

Facebook’s mobile cloud gaming service now covers the entire US

Just like other giants in the industry (Microsoft, Google, NVIDIA), Facebook has its own cloud gaming service. Announced last year, the closed beta of Facebook’s cloud gaming platform promises to offer a decent catalog of games that can be played instantly, with no installs, while on the move.

The service was launched with just a handful of cloud-streamed games on Android and web in select US regions. Today, Facebook announced that its cloud gaming platform is accessible to over 98% of people in the mainland United States.

Also, the company revealed that it’s on track to hit 100% by fall of this year and that it will start rolling out the service in Canada and Mexico. By early 2022, Facebook plans to reach Western and Central Europe with its cloud gaming platform.

The announcement includes one other highlight that involves a new partnership with a major game developer: Ubisoft. Under the new partnership, Facebook’s cloud gaming platform will add more titles to its catalog starting with Assassin’s Creed Rebellion, which was launched as a cloud-streamed game on Facebook Gaming.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed game can be played on the Facebook app on Android and the web (via fb.gg/play). In addition to Rebellion, Facebook has added two other Ubisoft titles to its portfolio of streamable games: Hungry Shark Evolution and Hungry Dragon. Two others will be added in the coming months: Mighty Quest and Trials Frontier.

  • Both Epic and Apple land solid blows as the court battle begins

Both Epic and Apple land solid blows as the court battle begins

Today was the first day of the court battle between Apple and game developer Epic. The latter sued Apple after the tech giant tossed its red hot Fortnite game out of the App Store. Apple did this after Epic violated Apple’s rules and gave its customers access to the developer’s own in-app payment platform.

Seeking Alpha reports that during Epic’s opening statement, the developer explained that Apple has made iOS “a walled garden” which not only blocks competition but also makes it harder for iPhone users to switch to Android. And speaking of anti-competitive behavior, Epic says that Apple’s demand that apps offering in-app purchases use its payment platform violates federal anti-trust laws. Apple collects 30% of in-app purchases and at the same time, it is forcing developers to run in-app payments through its platform.

Other companies who have complained about the so-called Apple Tax include Netflix and Spotify. The latter brought its argument to the European Union a couple of years ago saying that thanks to the 30% Apple Tax, Apple Music has an advantage over Spotify and other streaming music apps that have to cough up the additional 30% that Apple Music doesn’t have to pay.

Epic says that requiring third-party apps to sell their wares through the App Store and forcing them to tack on 30% for processing in-app payments is actually a violation of federal antitrust law that prohibits companies from tying a product or service to the sale of another. Epic attorney Katherine Forrest’s highlight phrase of the day: “When they pick up the iPhone, users enter a different world. They are locked into a closed platform where they can only download apps from Apple, and each and every time they purchase in the app, a 30% tax is imposed.”

Epic also refuted Apple’s claims that the rules Apple created for the App Store help it maintain the quality and security of iOS apps. This is a claim that Apple has made before.

In its opening arguments, Apple stated that its 30% fee is in line with industry standards and that allowing apps like Fortnite to side-load its own in-app platforms could lead to security issues. Where Apple might have scored points with the judge is when it noted that Epic never informed Apple about its in-app payment system until the day it launched while Microsoft was given advanced notice.

Apple Attorney Karen Dunn said during Monday’s court session that “A $20 billion company has decided that it doesn’t want to pay for Apple’s innovations anymore. So Epic is here, demanding that this court force Apple to get into its App Store untested and untrusted apps — something that Apple has never done.”

In giving the court reasons why Epic can’t win the case, Apple claims that the game developer is using the incorrect version in its antitrust claim. Apple states that Epic is unable to show anti-competitive behavior on the part of Apple and the latter says that it can show pro-competitive justifications.

Apple also mentioned that the appeals court that sided with Qualcomm in its case against the FTC, a case that the FTC decided not to take back to the Supreme Court, ruled that “while anti-competitive behavior is illegal, hypercompetitive behavior is not.” Apple obviously believes its actions are in the latter category.

Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney took the stand today and said that Epic isn’t asking for Apple to eliminate the compensation it receives from in-app purchases. But he pointed out that the Apple Tax can result in Apple making more money from an app than the app’s own developers.

While Apple has been trying to show that there are plenty of other app stores that Fortnite can be listed in, Epic’s top executive said that Fortnite is more than a game. He called Fortnite a “phenomenon that transcends gaming” and a “social and entertainment experience that includes a variety of gaming experiences and non-gaming experiences within it.” This means that such a title needs a top app storefront like Apple’s App Store to help promote it.

While Apple’s App Store takes as much as a 30% cut of in-app purchases, Epic’s own app store grabs a 12% cut and is “hundreds of millions of dollars short of being profitable.” Sweeney says that Epic’s app store could turn profitable some time over the next two to three years.

  • Vietnamese studio bags $1 mln funding for new blockchain game

Vietnamese studio bags $1 mln funding for new blockchain game

Vietnamese game studio Topebox and its blockchain partner KardiaChain have raised $1 million for an upcoming blockchain game called My DeFi Pet.

The investors include Shanghai-based venture capital firms Axia8 Ventures, OKEx Blockdream Ventures, and the venture capital fund of cryptocurrency exchange OKEx in Hong Kong. Vietnam-based venture capitalist Megala Ventures and Chinese game developer Animoca Brands have also pitched in.

Based in HCMC, Topebox is the developer of hit games like Pocket Army, Sky Dancer: Free Falling, and King Rivals. It had bagged $1 million in the seed funding round from Singapore’s mobile game publisher Habby in April last year.

My DeFi Pet is its first blockchain gaming project, which is set to launch globally in mid-May. The game will include decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible token (NFT) features. NFT is a unit of data stored on blockchain that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable.

Accordingly, players can earn tokens while playing the game, get rewards by participating in the game’s events and make profit from selling in-game characters.

The Topebox developer team includes experienced game producers from Vietnam’s gaming giant VNG and leading global mobile video games developer Gameloft.

It aims to have it business appraised and valued at $150 million in the next 3-5 years.

Before My DeFi Pet, Vietnam had developed another blockchain game called Axie Infinity, released in 2018. It was developed by Vietnamese game developer Sky Marvis and was the first blockchain game developed in Southeast Asia.

  • Epic Games dares to challenge the 30% Apple Tax and gets its developer account closed in return

Epic Games dares to challenge the 30% Apple Tax and gets its developer account closed in return

Apple and Fortnite developer Epic Games are in the middle of a, well, epic battle. The fight is over Apple’s in-app payment system and the 30% cut that the company takes on in-app payments. Apple says that it will revoke Epic Games’ developer privileges by shutting its accounts starting later this month. Last week, Apple told the developer to “remove the ‘Epic direct payment feature’ that bypasses Apple’s in-app payment system which counts seven beans for Epic and three for Apple with each purchase. On Epic’s website, the developer wrote, “Apple is keeping prices high so they can collect 30% of your payments, and is blocking.

Epic, very publicly, is revealing what is going on. A Tweet disseminated by the game developer revealed that Apple has removed Fortnite from the App Store and will terminate its developer accounts on Friday, August 28th. Epic will not have access to iOS or Mac developer tools starting on that date. Epic filed a lawsuit today seeking a Temporary Restraining Order against Apple; the suit requests that the latter be restrained “from removing, de-listing, refusing to list or otherwise making unavailable the app Fortnite, including any update thereof, from the App Store on the basis that Fortnite offers in-app payment processing through means other than Apple’s In-App Purchase…”

Epic’s Preliminary Statement included with its court filing explains everything from Epic’s point of view. It says, “Apple has for years used its complete monopoly over the distribution of apps to the billion users of iOS, the Apple operating system running on all iPhones and iPads, to coerce app developers into using Apple’s payment platform, In-App Purchase (IAP) for all in-app purchases of digital content used in their apps. By tying IAP to app distribution, Apple eliminates all competition in the market for in-app payment processing, allowing it to impose an exorbitant 30% “app tax” on all in-app purchases of in-app content.”

The filing goes into more detail as Epic explains what took place earlier this month. “Just over two weeks ago, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was asked during a Congressional hearing whether Apple has “ever retaliated against or disadvantaged a developer who went public about their frustrations with the App Store”. Mr. Cook testified, “We do not retaliate or bully people. It’s strongly against our company culture.” But Apple has done just that. When Epic gave users of its app Fortnite a choice of how they wanted to make purchases, Apple retaliated by removing Fortnite from its App Store. Then when Epic sued Apple to break its monopoly on app stores and in-app payments, Apple retaliated ferociously. It told Epic that by August 28, Apple will cut off Epic’s access to all development tools necessary to create software for Apple’s platforms—including for the Unreal Engine Epic offers to third-party developers, which Apple has never claimed violated any Apple policy.”

Apple has said that it is willing to work with Epic but the developer notes that “Apple’s actions will irreparably damage Epic’s reputation among Fortnite users and be catastrophic for the future of the separate Unreal Engine business.” The optics just do not look good for Apple especially since the App Store and the tech giant’s 30% cut are under the regulatory microscope in the states and Europe.

Epic believes that it is “likely to succeed on the merits of its claims,” but is asking for the restraining order anyway. That is because it is concerned that it will be irreparably harmed before the court reaches a final decision. It should also be pointed out that Epic is not asking for monetary damages, nor it is asking for a ruling that would favor it above other companies. What Epic is asking for is “injunctive relief to allow fair competition in these two key markets that directly affect hundreds of millions of consumers and tens of thousands, if not more, of third-party app developers.”

  • Tencent profit beats expectations after strong demand for games

Tencent profit beats expectations after strong demand for games

Chinese gaming and social media giant Tencent Holdings said second-quarter net profit rose 37 percent, beating market estimates, on higher demand for its video games as coronavirus put a dent in other entertainment options.

Revenue from online games, which accounts for one-third of total sales, jumped 40 percent in the quarter, primarily driven by smartphone games including Peacekeeper Elite and Honour of Kings. That offset a continued decline in desktop games.

Social networks, fintech and business services, and social advertising revenues all grew by nearly 30 percent.

Media advertising revenues fell by 25 percent however, “as a result of weak brand advertising demand amid the challenging macro environment”, and delayed content production and releases.

The world’s largest gaming firm by revenue booked a US$4.8 billion profit for the three months through June. Revenue rose 29 percent to $16.5 billion.

The results come a few days after the US said it would ban WeChat-related transactions in the country.

Tencent, which owns the Chinese messaging app, is under pressure to address concerns about the impact of the ban and outline its plans to mitigate any fallout.

The company has also postponed a blockbuster release of “Dungeon and Fighter Mobile” game planned for August 12, citing upgrades needed to the game’s addiction prevention system.

  • Niantic confirms Pokemon GO online player battles are coming in 2020

Niantic confirms Pokemon GO online player battles are coming in 2020

Niantic has been planning to implement a PvP system in Pokemon GO for quite some time now. The new gameplay mechanic is not yet ready for prime time, but Niantic confirmed that online player battles are coming in 2020.

At the moment, Pokemon GO players can only battle other trainers locally, but they can battle NPCs wherever. Starting next year, Niantic will add an online PvP mechanic that will pit players against each other no matter their location.

The new PvP system will be called GO Battle League and will make its debut early next year. Just like many other Pokemon GO features, GO Battle League will encourage players to explore the world with Pokemon. Players will be able to walk in order to earn entry into the GO Battle League, then face other players from around the globe through an online matching system.

No other details have been revealed by Niantic in the announcement, so it’s unclear what rewards winners will receive and whether or not climbing in the ranks of the league will award any prize. The good news is we’ll find out more in a special Dev Insights video that Niantic promised to share very soon, so stay tuned.

  • Information hidden in app reveals how much Apple will charge for Arcade

Information hidden in app reveals how much Apple will charge for Arcade

Back in March, Apple introduced Apple Arcade. This service will allow subscribers to pay a monthly fee for unlimited gameplay. There will be over 100 new titles that will be available, all exclusive to the app. Apple could release a launch date and pricing for Arcade on September 10th; that is when the company’s fall event is expected to be held according to a screenshot found on the most recent iOS 13 beta. But it appears that we might already know the pricing. The latter discovered information inside one of the APIs used by the App Store app that apparently reveals how much Arcade will cost (an API, or Application programming interface, is used to help two applications communicate with each other).

According to the information discovered by 9to5Mac, Apple will charge $4.99 a month for the service after a one-month free trial. All members in a Family Sharing account will have access to the games inside the Arcade app, and since subscribers are paying for the service, there will be no in-app purchases offered. Arcade subscribers can start a game on an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV and switch devices without missing a beat.

Apple Arcade will join Apple Music, Apple News+ and Apple TV+ as features that bring in recurring revenue to Apple. It’s all part of the company’s plan to take advantage of the 900 million+ iPhones active around the world while lessening its reliance on new iPhone sales, which peaked in 2015. The services unit, which includes the aforementioned subscription-based features, the App Store, Apple Pay, AppleCare, iCloud and more, is Apple’s second-largest in terms of revenue and is it’s most profitable. Apple is targeting $50 billion in services revenue for next year, which would double the $25 billion the unit grossed in 2016. During its most recent earnings announcement covering the fiscal third quarter (April through June), the firm took in a record $11.5 billion in revenue for the division, up 12.7% from the $10.2 billion it took in during the same quarter in 2018.

Apple has been using its employees to test Arcade and get some feedback before it is released for public use. This past weekend, we told you that after a one-month free trial, the company is asking employees for 49 cents a month to test early builds of some of the games. This early access program will end once iOS 13 is officially launched.

Banking firm HSBC expects Arcade to garner as many as 29 million subscribers by 2024, raking in $4.5 billion. However, that estimate is based on a monthly subscription rate of $12.99 a month; that would seem to be too steep a price hike over a short period of time if Apple does indeed debut the service at $4.99 a month. So HSBC’s analysts are going to have to go back and rework the estimate.

Some of the titles that you should expect to find when Apple Aracade launches include:

    • Hot Lava
    • Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm
    • Beyond a Steel Sky
    • Sonic Racing (yes, starring “that” Sonic)
    • LEGO Brawls (yes, starring those LEGO)
    • No Way Home
    • Yaga

These are games that you won’t find elsewhere. And by offering you a free trial period, Apple is looking to get you hooked on the service. It is the same approach that the company takes with Apple Music. And if Apple does price Arcade at $4.99 a month, it might seem like a bargain to those who were expecting it to be priced at $9.99 a month or more. The failure or success of Arcade will go a long way toward determining whether Apple hits its goal of $50 billion in services revenue next year.

  • Original DOOM game now available on Android and iOS

Original DOOM game now available on Android and iOS

Back in 1993, a little game called DOOM developed by a small studio called id Software set the gaming world on fire. About 25 years later, Bethesda decided to release classic DOOM titles to new platforms, including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.

While DOOM, DOOM II and DOOM 3 are now available for download for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, only the first two are hitting Android and iOS devices. If you want to try them out, you can download them from the Google Play Store and App Store, respectively, for $5.

The original game, DOOM comes with all the content released back in 1993, and the fourth expansion Thy Flesh Consumed. The re-release of DOOM II includes the Master Levels, 20 additional levels made by the community and curated by the developers.

Although the classic DOOM game has been available on iOS since 2009, this is the first time both games are ported to Android and, of course, the first time DOOM II hits iOS devices. There’s one small issue though, you’ll need to log into a Bethesda account to play the games. If you don’t have an account yet, you’ll have to create one. The BehesdaNet login requirement was included for the Slayers Club with the purpose of rewarding members for playing the classic DOOM games.

However, Bethesda said that the login should be optional and that it’s working on changing the requirement to optional right now.

  • Google to shut down YouTube Gaming App

Google to shut down YouTube Gaming App

Google announced last year that the YouTube Gaming app will go away at the end of March. However, for reasons that elude us, Google has decided to prolong YouTube Gaming’s life for two more months.

Today, the Mountain View company announced that it will shut down the YouTube Gaming app on May 30. Since we’re so close to the deadline, we doubt that Google will further delay the closure of the app.

The YouTube Gaming app will go away on May 30, but you’ll be able to find all of your favorite gaming videos in the YouTube main app at www.youtube.com/gaming.

If you’re using YouTube Gaming app on a regular basis, then you should know that Google plans to merge it with the standard YouTube platform. After May 30, all YouTube Gaming visitors will be directed to a new channel for games on the may YouTube website.

Unfortunately, any content that you might have saved or viewed on the YouTube Gaming will be gone after May 30, as Google announced that it’s not possible to transfer games between platforms. According to YouTube, the merger of the two platforms will allow the company “to build a stronger home for the gaming community” on YouTube, not just the YouTube Gaming app. In other words, YouTube is putting all the eggs in one basket to better compete with the likes of Twitch.

  • Apex Legends is coming to mobile

Apex Legends is coming to mobile

Respawn’s wildly successful battle royale shooter, Apex Legends, is likely getting a mobile version, EA revealed in its quarterly earnings report. Unsurprisingly, the game was a huge hit and turned into “the fastest-growing franchise we’ve ever had,” the report says.

During today’s call, the publisher said that it has entered “advanced negotiations to bring Apex Legends to China and to mobile.” This is a strategy that both PUBG and Fortnite—Apex Legends’ biggest competitors in the battle royale genre—followed to great results, so it’s no wonder that EA is looking to replicate their success and keep Apex’s momentum going.

Fortnite’s approach is unique, however, as it is essentially the exact same game across mobile devices, consoles, and PC, which allows for seamless cross-platform play, while PUBG’s mobile outing is a separate entity that’s limited to smartphones and tablets. Unfortunately, it is yet unclear which approach EA is planning to take with the mobile version of Apex Legends, or when the game is going to release. Seeing as how the publisher has entered an advanced stage of negotiations to port the title to mobile devices, we might see something by the end of this year, though it depends entirely on how scalable the experience is going to be.

Respawn Entertainment, the game’s developer, further added that it is committed to “updating the game with seasonal updates, with a focus on the quality of content over novelty or speed of release.” This seems to be in an attempt to address complaints that the game is not getting enough new updates.

  • Indian startup RealTell launches gamification for Retailers

Indian startup RealTell launches gamification for Retailers

Offline retail is here to stay,” says founder of in-store experiential service.

Retail tech startup RealTell is launching its flagship product “Realtell Retail” for fashion and lifestyle brands.

“Offline retail is here to stay,” said Ashish Mittal, chief mentor at Turning Ideas Ventures (which incubated RealTell) “and this startup helps retailers, primarily the fashion and apparel brands, to drive footfall and increase basket size by gamifying the offline shopping experience.”

The company was started by two young college entrepreneurs from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) Delhi University, Sanyam Gupta and Shivendra Misra.

In a statement, the company said its kiosk solutions will help shoppers to discover new combo prices for the fashion and other retails products every day, based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, driving footfall to stores and turning the buying experience into a game.

Press materials released by the brand observed that while online retailers have detailed information about shoppers – because every click can be tracked – offline retail stores lose out on valuable shopper insights due to the lack of proper infrastructure and technology.

With its patented technology, RealTell Retail gamifies the shopping experience by letting shoppers discover a dynamic price for products of their choice.

“Imagine walking into a store, scanning your items at a kiosk and saving money at each visit,” said Misra.

“What’s exciting is that the prices and the offers change every day. That’s what no one has been able to do. The industry has relied for long on the rule of thumb and guesswork but never before has it been able to make data-driven decisions at scale to make the experience of the end-customer so good that they want to come back again.”

Cofounder Sanyam Gupta added: “It is about making the customer the king and having a compelling value proposition to drive footfall that offline retailers will not experience with the traditional systems that they use.”

The startup has deployed its solution in more than 900 stores under lifestyle manufacturer Crimsoune Club pan India.

“Mobility is clearly the future of retail and lifestyle brands will have to stay on top of the wave to continue to grow and innovate,” said Crimsoune Club director Piyush Mangla.

“RealTell has already helped Crimsoune Club manage the business at the click of a button and now, drive more footfall to stores, something which offline retail stores have struggled for long.”

  • Microsoft to bring its best car racing game to Phones

Microsoft to bring its best car racing game to Phones

Microsoft has just announced that its best car racing franchise will make its debut on mobile later this year. The game is called Forza Street and seems to be part of Microsoft’s best-selling racing franchise, and, more importantly, will be free-to-play.

As a matter of fact, Microsoft confirmed Forza Street is now available as a free-to-play title for Windows 10 users, so if you don’t want to wait for the mobile version, you can start playing right away after you download it from the Microsoft Store.

Forza Street takes players to the streets of Miami where they can enter the ultimate street racing scene to win the car collection of their dreams. Simply pick an event, choose your car, and race for fame. The game allows players to collect and upgrade iconic cars, from classic to modern sport and retro supercars. Microsoft promises “streamlined controls,” but the best thing about Forza Street is that you’ll be able to race anytime, anywhere, assuming you have an Internet connection. You can even squeeze in a quick one-minute race while waiting for your bus, or get immersed in an endless story with multiple ways of achieving victory.

It’s quite interesting to see Microsoft giving a damn about mobile gaming, not to mention that the Forza series includes some of the best arcade racing games of all time. Hopefully, Forza Street will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors – Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon, and provide an immersive car racing experience.

  • Apple is spending Millions on new Games for Arcade

Apple is spending Millions on new Games for Arcade

Last month, Apple Arcade was unveiled. Set to launch this fall, the service will offer subscribers access to over 100 “groundbreaking” new games. The Arcade will be available on all Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad and the Mac. And the only cost will be the monthly subscription fee; there are no in-game extras that Arcade members will have to shell out for. Besides allowing a family with up to six members to share, a whole new family of accessories certified MFi (made for iPhone, iPad), such as game controllers, will make playing games on an iOS device much easier.

With iPhone sales struggling, the company is looking to take advantage of the large number of active units (nearly 1 billion at last count) by selling owners of these handsets subscription services such as Apple Music, Apple News+, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade. Apple is looking to double its services revenue from the $25 billion it collected in 2017 to the $50 billion it hopes to garner next year. For the fiscal first quarter of 2019, the period covering October through December of last year, Apple grossed nearly $11 billion from its services unit, putting it on track to meet its goal for fiscal 2020.

Apple has budgeted more than $500 million this year to spend on games for Arcade. In other words, the company is spending millions of dollars on each game. Will there be a payoff for the company after it keeps cutting such large checks? Global banking giant HSBC believes so. The firm’s analysts see Apple Arcade grossing $370 million next year, overtaking Apple TV+ by 2022 with $2.7 billion in sales, and generating $4.5 billion in revenue by 2024. In that year, HSBC expects Apple TV+ to bring in $4.1 billion in revenue, while Apple News+ takes in approximately $2.7 billion.

To help generate business for Arcade, Apple is offering incentives to developers who are willing to give the new service exclusivity on new games for a few months. That would keep popular titles off of other platforms, including the Google Play Store, for a period of time. Apple is hoping that this will lead to developers debuting their games on Arcade first, which was a pattern seen years ago when App Store users spent much more money on games than Android users. Now, with Android’s huge global market share, new games are apt to launch on both platforms at the same time.

The $500 million Apple has reportedly budgeted for Arcade is half the $1 billion it originally expected to lay out for Apple TV+. Games already announced for Arcade include one based on Sega’s popular Sonic the Hedgehog character. Subscribers will also be able to select titles from Cartoon Network and Lego. There will even be a new version of Frogger available. Independent developers, who have proven themselves with games listed on the App Store, have received larger than normal advances from Apple to deliver new titles for Arcade.

HSBC forecasts that Apple Arcade will have 29 million subscribers by 2024, paying $12.99 a month for the service. But that is only an estimate. Only time will tell whether Apple has made the right move by laying out half a billion dollars for new, unproven games for its service. And if Arcade ends up being a big money maker for Apple, competition will surely follow. Still, Apple will have the advantage of plucking apples from the low hanging trees. Those are the nearly one billion owners of an active iPhone who will be receptive to Apple’s marketing of Arcade.

  • Snapchat announces Snap Games and Snap Originals programs

Snapchat announces Snap Games and Snap Originals programs

Snap, the company behind the Snapchat social network and services, announced earlier today a host of new features that will come to its mobile apps in the coming weeks. During its Snap Partner Summit, the social network company revealed two new programs that will be available to all Snapchat users, Snap Games, and Snap Originals.

Another major announcement concerns important improvements to the popular Snap Lenses. Also, a new set of development tools grouped together as Snap Kit, which will allow developers to include Snapchat functionality directly in their apps. But let’s start with the first major feature that Snapchat users will be given access to very soon: Snap Games. The new feature will be available right from the Chat bar within the Snapchat app on Android and iOS devices.

What’s really interesting about Snap Games is that you won’t have to install anything. Also, you’ll be able to see all your friends who are playing games, send them a message, play with them instantly and even talk like with voice chat.

Initially, Snap Games will be available with six mobile games: Bitmoji Party, Tiny Royale, Snake Squad, C.A.T.S. Drift Race, Zombie Rescue Squad, and Alphabear Hustle. Since Snap Games will begin rolling out for Android smartphones and iPhones today, you can expect to be able to check out the new feature very soon.

Snapchat starts offering original shows watchable on the go

Snap Originals is a series of shows such as documentaries, comedies, and teen dramas, which, as the name suggests, will be original. Snap also mentions that this original content will clearly stand out from the rest because of the way they’re told: “they’re personal, intimate, and made for the way you use your phone today.”

No less than 10 shows will be available at launch for those who want to check out Snap Originals: Two Sides, Can’t Talk Now, Sneakerheads, Commanders, Denton’s Death Date, While Black, BuzzFeed, Dead of Night, Compton Dreams, and Stranded with Sam and Colby.

The new Snap Originals will be available starting this week, but more series will be added in the coming months. Remember that you can watch these shows anywhere you are directly from your smartphone, as long as you have access to the internet.

Snapchat Lenses get upgraded to the next level

As far as the Lenses go, Snap announced that in just over a year after the feature was made available to users, more than 400,000 Lenses have been created by the Snapchat community. Moreover, users have played over 15 billion times with these Lenses.

To advance Lenses to the next level, Snap announced the addition of Creator Profiles, a new way to help Lens Creators to showcase their work and learn more about their audience.

Also, Snap introduced an easier method to find the right Lenses when you need them. Simply press and hold on your camera screen to scan the world around you. For example, you can scan a math problem to get the answer, or a product to see it listed on Amazon and learn about its price. You can even scan your dog to give it glasses, or a song to see who sings it.

Last but not least, Lens Studio has been updated to include more templates for those creators who prefer augmented reality over traditional Lenses, including Landmarkers. The update adds new templates for hand-tracking, body-tracking, and more, which can be used to create Lenses that might pop up when Snapchat users use Scan.
But there are more changes coming to Snapchat, such as App Stories, which allow users to share content directly from the Snapchat camera to a Story inside another app. And for creators, there are a few new kits that will allow them to share their custom stickers from their favorite services directly on a Snap.

The Creative Kit, Bitmoji Kit, and Ad Kit are now available for creators, each allowing Snapchat users to interact easier than ever with customized Snaps.

As mentioned earlier, all features announced today by Snap will be available starting this week, but some Snap Originals shows will go live in the coming months.
