Subway theme for Coach Hong Kong pop-up

A pop-up shop designed like a New York subway car has been launched by luxury brand Coach Hong Kong at Lane Crawford in IFC, Central.

As well as showcasing Coach’s latest collections, the Art of Expression pop-up shop offers customisation of leather bags for customers.

Running until August 22, the rose gold pop-up shop pays homage to the home of Coach, New York City, and features graffiti and music to match. The life-size subway recreation also includes a mosaic wall ideal for selfies, which can be pimped in an interactive photo booth by adding Coach stickers, graffiti and other effects before being emailed.

Inside the subway car, Coach showcases its pre-fall and fall collections for women and men, including floral print dresses and skirts reminiscent of the ’30s, embellished t-shirts and high-top trainers with NASA details.

A Coach craftsman is available to add the brand’s signature leather Tea Roses to iconic Dinkys, personalise leather bags and wallets with a monogram or Coach stamp, or add a new glove-tanned leather strap of choice to bags.

  • Porter Stand opens pop-up store in Osaka

Porter Stand opens pop-up store in Osaka

Japan’s Porter Stand has opened up a temporary store in Osaka. The new Porter Stand pop-up will open for a limited-time at the Hankyu Umeda head office in Osaka. It is the first time the brand will open a store in the western Japan area.

Inside the new pop-up shop, customers will find Porter Stand’s classic series, including original items and collaborative pieces including the Orgabits × Porter Tote Bag, co-designed with organic cotton brand Orgabits.

The shop also stocks limited-edition items in the form of bags, wallets and pouches. Inside the store, the colourway is minimal and woody. Trunk type fixtures are placed around counters, matching the retailer’s concept of being a porter stand or “a baggage check room where many bags gather,” as per the brand’s website.

Porter Stand is also located in Tokyo Station and Shinagawa Station, one of the busiest transportation hubs in Tokyo.

Earlier in the year, the retailer took its concept to Paris in January, opening its ‘Trunk Store’ pop-up inside the Bows & Arrows store in the Marais area of the French capital.

Owned by Yoshida & Co., a Japanese manufacturer of bags and accessories since 1935, Porter Stand sells the firm’s Made In Japan accessories line Porter and Porter Girl, as well as the Luggage Label line.

The Porter Stand Osaka store will run from June 14 to 20.

    Balenciaga opens Osaka pop-up

French fashion maison Balenciaga has opened a new pop-up store in Osaka, adding to the five standalone boutiques already retailing in the Japanese city.

The Parisian label has its sights set on pushing its newest ‘it’ handbag – the Bazar Shopping Bag – onto the Japanese clientele.

The new Osaka pop-up shop will house the original Bazar Shopping from the latest collection, as well as holiday and resort versions. Also for sale are pouch and wallet versions of the bag.

The colourful tote bag, designed by Demna Gsvalia, featured in Balenciaga’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection. The Bazar Shopping Bag — already a hit with fashionistas such as Pernille Teisbaek, the co-founder and creative director at Social Zoo Direct — is part of Gvsalia’s first accessory line since taking the helm of Balenciaga this year.

Despite being compared to a heavy-duty laundrette carryall, the Balenciaga accessory retails for a whopping £975 per unit and has been hailed a best-seller on major fashion e-platforms Net-a-Porter and MatchesFashion.com.

Balenciaga is known for ‘it’ bags, since the Arena handbag, designed by Nicholas Ghesquire over ten years ago.

The pop-up shop is located within a portion of the Hankyu department store in Osaka. It is open from now until the end of December.

A Stradivarius mid-air pop-up store on a flight between Barcelona and Split is believed to be a world-first.

Cabin crew on a flight from Barcelona to Split gave passengers mobile phones that came with an app, designed specifically for the event, for purchasing clothes from Stradivarius’ latest collection.

  • Pop up stores change Korea retail face

Pop up stores change Korea retail face

More and more specialised retailers or service providers – ranging from barbershops to paint stores – are making appearances inside Korean department stores.

These special shops are appearing as pop up stores rather than taking up permanent residence. The phenomenon is the result of retailers choosing pop up stores to publicise their brands, which allows them to avoid sales pressure that comes with leasing permanent space in a department store.

Lotte Department store has opened a Club Monaco Men’s shop. The barbershop Herr’ has been added to the already existing select shop, offering consulting services related to style and haircuts. The barbershop is also offering customers a traditional English wet shaving. It is the first time for a barbershop to enter an apparel store, which makes the ‘special store’ extra special.

A pop up store called Men’s AGIT gathered many popular hobby goods such as cameras, camera accessories, drones, plastic figures and RC cars in one spot.

Another notable pop up store is the ‘Home and Tones’ shop at Hyundai Department Store. Since the number of people redecorating their homes by themselves has increased, Samhwa Paint has been managing a pop up store since September 7. Eco friendly paints, as well as paint that turns into a blackboard when applied are exhibited, and paint that can be mixed on-site through toning machines, are drawing the attention of consumers.

The ’99 Avant’ pop up store sells the creations of young artist Han Seung-woo. Hyundai department store officials say that the pop up store is gaining positive reaction from customers as they can communicate with the artist in person.

Shinsegae department store made space on its sixth floor just for pop up stores. Many brands including whiskey brand Balvenie’s ‘craft lounge’, shoe care brand ‘Resh’, and BMW’s Mini cars and bicycles have all opened pop up stores at the location.

Shinsegae officials mentioned that the sales of pop up stores are threatening sales at official stores.

“Now, already existing brands are also using popup stores as a method to introduce their new products. Department stores are also benefitting from the pop up stores because various brands can be presented so customers have no time to be bored.”
