Porsche Macan Review: A Testament to Zuffenhausen’s Enduring Legacy in Luxury SUVs

Driving the Future: Porsche’s All-Electric Macan Takes Center Stage

Porsche has long carved a niche for itself not through flamboyant stunts but by meticulously refining its craft. The new all-electric Macan is a testament to this philosophy, setting out to elevate the driving experience while adhering to the brand’s storied heritage.

In an automotive landscape often overshadowed by bold designs and revolutionary technology, the Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer sticks to its roots. Instead of chasing after trends, it concentrates on the qualities that have earned the loyalty of its fans: flawless steering precision, exceptional cornering stability, and an exhilarating connection between driver and machine.

A Poised Beast, Even at Rest

Anyone familiar with Porsche understands that even when at a standstill, these cars emanate an electrifying energy — as if they’re coiled and ready to spring into action. The fully electric Macan represents an ambitious leap for the brand, aiming to distill the essence of a sports car into a battery-operated SUV. Far from being a mere experiment in silence, this model embodies Porsche’s commitment to providing a thrilling driving experience, proving that it’s not just about getting from point A to B.

    Confidence Redefined

For electric vehicle enthusiasts, the figures behind the Macan are impressive: an impressive range of up to 641 kilometers, cutting-edge 800-volt technology, and a robust 100 kWh battery. But what truly sets the Macan apart becomes evident with the first turn of the wheel. Its uncompromising craftsmanship fills drivers with confidence; you can sense the precision in every detail. With steering so direct, each bend invites a rewarding challenge, while the body remains rigid and responsive, even during swift directional changes.

    Effortless Power at Your Fingertips

The Macan feels remarkably nimble, even in its entry-level version. With a punchy output of up to 360 hp (Overboost) and 563 Nm of torque, this 2.2-ton SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a commendable 5.7 seconds. Instead of a jarring burst, the power delivery feels smooth and measured, catering to driving enthusiasts. For those craving an extra dose of performance, Porsche offers higher-spec variants known as Macan 4, 4S, and Turbo.

The Dance of Technology and Design

The Macan doesn’t just perform; it captivates visually with its design choices that honor Porsche’s legacy. Sporting a sleek front hood, pronounced fenders, and elegant frameless doors, it commands attention without being ostentatious. Even with its striking 22-inch wheels, the SUV maintains a lean profile that remains unmistakably Porsche, capturing the essence of style and aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of 0.25.

    A Cutting-Edge Cockpit Awaits

Stepping inside the Macan reveals a glimpse into the future, featuring a 12.6-inch curved display for the driver and a 10.9-inch screen for the passenger, complemented by a head-up display with augmented reality. Porsche ensures that despite the digital advancements, the cabin retains an intuitive layout; everything operates seamlessly from the get-go—forget the frustrating fumbling of wireless connections many drivers have encountered elsewhere.

    Charging: Fast and Efficient

The Macan boasts an impressive 800-volt structure, allowing charging speeds of up to 270 kW. This technological marvel translates into charging from 10 to 80 percent in a mere 21 minutes. If that doesn’t sound like a pit stop: quick pause, rapid recharge, and back on the track—then what is? The craftsmanship of Porsche’s engineers ensures that electric mobility is delivered with the excellence the brand is known for.

In summary, Porsche has successfully extended its reputation into electric mobility with the Macan, combining sportiness, practicality, and efficiency into a striking automotive experience—all at a relatively accessible entry point.

  • Porsche Vietnam presents new Cayenne

    Porsche Vietnam presents new Cayenne

The third generation of Porsche “Sports Car for Five” features comprehensive upgrades to the powertrain, chassis, design, and equipment, further enhancing driving performance and offering luxurious comfort.

With the vision “Further Together”, Porsche Vietnam unveiled the all-new and thoroughly refined Cayenne. The third generation of the luxury SUV made its national debut at the Contemporary Space of Porsche Cayenne at Porsche Centre Saigon and Porsche Studio Hanoi, equipped with a highly digitalized display and control concept, new chassis technology, and innovative high-tech features.

Ever since its world premiere in 2002, the Cayenne has been a game-changer. Combining the performance characteristics of a Porsche with luxury and utility, it is the definitive sports car in the SUV segment and a true pioneer.

Since its establishment in 2007, Porsche Vietnam has been turning sports car dreams into reality. One-third of all Porsche vehicles delivered in Vietnam are Cayenne models, making it the best-selling Porsche here to date.

“We are excited to introduce the new Cayenne in Vietnam with a tremendous product upgrade. The new Cayenne creates more opportunities for Vietnamese Porsche fans to experience their dream sports car than ever before,” said Andreas Klingler, general director of Porsche Vietnam.

Key highlights of the new Cayenne include high-definition HD Matrix LED Headlights that provide road illumination tailored to every driving situation, an air quality system that filters pollutants from the air in the interior, and, for the first time in the Cayenne, front passengers have their own infotainment display—for streaming videos during the trip, for example.

With its extensively upgraded design and more powerful engine range, the Cayenne emphasizes its claim to be the sportiest car in its segment.

A highly significant model launch adds to Porsche Vietnam’s momentum. Since it was officially established in 2007, Porsche Vietnam has grown to become one of the most exciting markets for Porsche, both from a global and regional perspective.

After marking its 15th anniversary in 2022, Porsche Vietnam carries a positive momentum forward into 2023, Porsche’s 75th anniversary year, with the launch of the new Cayenne. Porsche has maintained a steady position as Vietnam’s top luxury sports car brand.

“We see an increasing number of Porsche cars on the roads of Vietnam. Our biggest achievement so far is building and spreading sports car fascination, nurturing a passion for the brand, and turning sports car dreams into reality. This reflects the aspirations that motivate us, and more notably, it underscores the passionate support from our valued customers and fans in Vietnam,” Klingler said.

At Porsche, the brand interacts with sports car enthusiasts in engaging and innovative ways. Porsche’s already attractive product portfolio now receives a boost with the new Cayenne, with a comprehensive range of upgrades ready to take any family further together.

The all-new Cayenne: Featuring Porsche Driver Experience

Porsche has integrated a completely revised display and control concept into the new Cayenne.

The new Porsche Driver Experience, first introduced in the Porsche Taycan, focuses on the driver’s axis and optimizes operation. Functions that the driver frequently uses are located directly on or immediately next to the steering wheel.

For example, the lever located on the left behind the steering wheel now has additional functions for operating the driver assistance systems. The automatic transmission selector lever in the new Cayenne is now on the dashboard.

This makes room on the new center console for storage compartments and a large air conditioning controller in an elegant black panel design.

Large, easily accessible controls combined with mechanical air conditioning switches and a haptic volume controller ensure optimum operability and a refined look.

A key feature of the new Porsche Driver Experience is the balance between digital and analog elements. For the first time, the redesigned cockpit of the Cayenne includes a fully digital 12.6-inch instrument cluster with a curved and free-standing design and variable display options. An optimized head-up display is also available.

The standard 12.3-inch central Porsche Communication Management display integrates harmoniously into the new dashboard and provides access to all the relevant vehicle functions.

Native apps such as Spotify® and Apple Music® are provided to optimize connectivity in the new Cayenne. A 10.9-inch display is now available for the first time on the passenger side.

This enriches the front passenger’s driving experience by displaying performance data, providing separate access to the infotainment system controls, and, depending on the market, offering the option of streaming video content on the road. A special foil ensures that the driver cannot see this display.

    Refined design, innovative lighting technology

The new Cayenne now has a particularly expressive appearance. A new front end combined with more strongly arched wings, a new bonnet, and technically appealing headlights emphasize the vehicle’s width.

Three-dimensionally designed taillights, uncluttered surfaces beneath, and a new rear apron with an integrated number plate holder characterize the rear-end design of the new Cayenne.

An expanded color palette with three new colors, lightweight sports packages saving up to 33 kilograms for the Cayenne Coupé, and a new extensive range of 20, 21, and 22-inch wheels make it possible to configure the new Cayenne individually and dynamically.

Matrix LED headlights are now standard in the new Cayenne. HD matrix LED headlights are a new optional feature.

With two high-definition modules and more than 32,000 pixels per headlamp, their innovative technology picks out other users and blocks out the light of the high beam for them with pixel accuracy so as not to dazzle them.

The brightness of the modules can be regulated in more than 1,000 steps, depending on the driving situation. Customized light modes increase safety and comfort in different driving situations.

Porsche has also introduced an air quality system in the new Cayenne.

As standard, the vehicle uses predictive navigation data to detect approaching tunnel entrances and automatically activate air recirculation.

Optionally, a sensor detects the level of fine dust particles in the air and passes them through the fine dust filter multiple times if necessary. Furthermore, an ionizer removes many germs and pollutants from the air, which is particularly beneficial for allergy sufferers.

In addition, customers can use a comprehensive range of new and optimized assistance systems. These include the active speed limiter and the swerve assist, the cornering assist, and the improved Porsche InnoDrive as part of the adaptive cruise control.

This means that the new Cayenne is even better at helping its driver in dangerous situations as well as in traffic jams on motorways and main roads.

Increased range between ride comfort and performance

Porsche now equips the Cayenne at the factory with a steel spring suspension, including Porsche Active Suspension Management.

New shock absorbers with 2-valve technology and thus separate rebound and compression stages allow optimized performance in all driving situations.

Comfort at slow speeds, handling during dynamic cornering, and pitch and roll support have been noticeably improved.

The driving experience can be additionally enhanced with the new adaptive air suspension with 2-chamber, 2-valve technology. This improves the driving experience with a soft suspension characteristic, stabilizes the vehicle, and simplifies on-road and off-road handling compared to both the standard suspension and the predecessor model.

At the same time, the adaptive air suspension improves driving precision and performance and reduces body movements in dynamic driving situations. The suspension also offers an even sharper differentiation between Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus driving modes.

The all-rounder: More power and sportier

In Vietnam, the new Cayenne debuts with three different versions.

An extensive refinement of the four-liter V8 biturbo engine developed by Porsche replaces the previous V6 engine in the new Cayenne S.

With a maximum output of 349 KW (474 PS) and a torque of 600 Nm, 25 kW (34 PS) and 50 Nm more than its predecessor, it accelerates both the SUV and the SUV Coupé to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

The top speed is 273 km/h. The entry into the world of the Cayenne comes with an optimized three-liter V6 turbo engine. It now generates 260 kW (353 PS) and 500 Nm, which is 10 kW (13 PS) and 50 Nm more than before.

The Turbo GT, designed for maximum on-road performance, is still the top model in the Cayenne range in most Porsche markets.

It is available exclusively as a coupé and benefits from all the optimizations and innovations of the model series. In addition, the output of the four-liter V8 biturbo engine of the Turbo GT has been increased by 14 kW (19 PS) to 485 kW (659 PS).

The Cayenne Turbo GT accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 305 km/h. The all-new Cayenne models are available to order now from Porsche Vietnam.

The price of all 5 versions of Cayenne is VND5.56-14.36 billion. All prices are estimated and include import tax, SCT, VAT, and local service packages.

Porsche in Vietnam continues to grow with Porsche Centre Saigon in HCMC, Porsche Centre Hanoi, and Porsche Studio in Hanoi.

  • Customer locks horns with Porsche over damage

Customer locks horns with Porsche over damage

The owner of a Macan SUV claims that Porsche employees broke his VND600 million ($25,500) gearbox during maintenance, but the automaker denies the accusation.

In early December, Ho Chi Minh City resident Pham Anh Tan in Ho Chi Minh City brought his 2016 Macan to Porsche Sai Gon for a front bumper replacement after the car collided with a motorbike.

He retrieved the car nine days later and drove it back to his home, 15 kilometers away, without any problem.

Tan left the car unused for about a week. When he started using it, the screen showed several issues, including lack of oil, “engine fail,” and “gearbox fail.”

He could start the car but could not shift gears to start driving. Porsche technicians advised him to put a liter of oil into the engine, but still the car could not drive.

As it was Christmas and Porsche maintenance service was on holiday, Tan brought his car to a third-party garage, where the technicians said the gearbox oil was leaking and advised him to bring it to Porsche.

By the end of December, Tan brought the car to Porsche, and he was told that the leakage in the oil had damaged the valve body, and the whole gearbox needed to be replaced at the cost of VND600 million.

Tan said that the car never had this issue before the front bumper was fixed and therefore he suspected that the problem arose from the reparation process at Porsche.

He demanded to see the CCTV footage of the Porsche workshop, but was only shown some parts of the process as Porsche said that some footage could not be revealed as it contained business secrets.

In the footage, Tan saw that his car was connected to a tool to assess issues and some Porsche employees drove the car around for testing. “My car only needed a bumper replacement, why were those processes necessary?” Tan said.

He also said that when he received the car back Porsche employees did not provide any documents to confirm the vehicle was free of issues.

A representative of the German automaker, however, said that Porsche maintenance policy requires every vehicle to go through the same process to ensure all functions of the car operate normally.

When Tan took the car back to Porsche a second time, technicians found that the incorrect type of oil was put in the gearbox and glue was used in the reparation even though it is not needed according to Porsche standards.

The damage to the gearbox, therefore, does not fall under the responsibility of Porsche, the representative said.
Porsche, however, admitted to being wrong in the process of receiving and handing over the car to Tan without any paperwork.

The automaker therefore proposed a 40% discount on the gearbox replacement, which means Tan would need to pay VND360 million for the new part.

But Tan refused the offer and demanded that his car be returned in the Porsche workshop after three months. At the end of last month Tan came to Porsche to get the car and was asked to sign a statement saying the vehicle had no issues before employees released the car.

    Tan refused to sign.

The statement said Porsche employees dismantled the valve body to check for issues without first seeking his approval.

The service consultant working with Tan quit two days after Tan visited Porsche demanding his vehicle back. The employee informed him Tan the resignation via text message.

Porsche said that the employee had been transferred to a new position but would continue to help Tan concerning everything relating to the broken Macan.

The two parties have yet to come to an agreement.

  • Porsche Taycan Reaches 100,000 Production Milestone

Porsche Taycan Reaches 100,000 Production Milestone

The Porsche Taycan first made its public appearance as the Mission E Concept back in September 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and the final production model rolled out exactly four years later in September 2019. And in just about three years, the company has rolled out 1,00,000 units of the Taycan. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S finished in Neptune Blue is the milestone car which was assembled on November 7 and is heading to a customer from the UK

According to Porsche, the US, China, and the UK / Republic of Ireland are the Taycan’s most popular markets. That said, deliveries have slowed down this year due to supply chain bottlenecks, with 25,073 EVs shipped to customers in the first nine months of the year, or 12 percent less than in the same period of 2021. But the delays haven’t slowed down demand for the electric car as the order book continues to show good figures.

Moreover, one of the owners, a Transport entrepreneur Jean-Hubert Revolon has already clocked 1,88,119 km on the ODO of his Taycan. He bought a Taycan 4S in mid-August 2020 and lives in France in the Lyon area. Revolon often drives to neighboring countries, covering as much as 1,200 km in a single day which is rather impressive.

In fact, the company’s Head of Body Planning, Markus Kreutel did 134,911 km in a Taycan Turbo company car between February 2021 and August 2022. Distances as long as 1,500 km were swiftly covered by the performance EV during his business trips that frequently involved traveling from Zuffenhausen to Slovakia or the Ore Mountains.

Porsche To Enter Pre-Owned Car Segment In India

The pre-owned car segment is a lucrative market, especially for a luxury carmaker like Porsche as it prepares to open it’s first ‘Porsche Approved’ pre-owned car store in Kochi on June 8, 2022. Part of the Volkswagen Group, the Porsche Approved Centres joins VW’s Das WeltAuto, and Audi Approved Plus program as the German carmaker aims to strengthen its one-stop solution to buy, sell or exchange certified pre-owned cars. Porsche says buyers would get an exclusive opportunity to discover and experience Porsche cars in an innovative way. More details would be shared at the time of the launch of the new Porsche Approved centre.

Through this platform, the carmaker aims to provide competitively pricing for the used cars along with genuine accessories, insurance, and financial support to its customers. Porsche could also offer service and warranty packages.

At present, Volkswagen has close to 120 Das WeltAuto centres across India. Since its launch in 2019, VW sold close to 3,000 cars, while that figure crossed 10,000 in 2020. The number doubled in 2021 as the carmaker sold more than 20,000 units through its pre-owned car centres.  On the other hand, Audi India is ramping up its pre-owned car business “Audi Approved Plus” to enable buyers to upgrade without having to spend on a new luxury car. The company aims to start at least 20 such centres by the end of 2022, from its current 14 centres.

  • VW To Give Its Green Light For Audi, Porsche To Enter F1

VW To Give Its Green Light For Audi, Porsche To Enter F1

Audi and Porsche owner Volkswagen is likely to give the green light for the two brands to make their entry into motor racing’s Formula One at a meeting next week, two sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

“We will hopefully be able to communicate our intention to enter into Formula One then,” one of the sources said, with the second adding there was a “good chance” of a positive decision.

Volkswagen declined to comment. The news was first reported by Business Insider.

There has long been a talk of Audi and Porsche forming partnerships with existing Formula One teams, their most likely method of entry into the highest class of international racing.

Audi and McLaren denied reports last year that a partnership between the two brands had already been formed but said that it was under discussion, with a decision to be expected this year.

Audi will offer around 500 million euros ($556.30 million) for McLaren, one source said, while Porsche intends to establish a long-term partnership with racing team Red Bull starting in several years’ time.

Volkswagen has not previously been involved in Formula One but has worked with Red Bull, notably in the world rally championship. McLaren and Red Bull were not immediately available to comment.

A source told Reuters in November that Volkswagen’s ultimate decision will rest on whether Formula One follows through on its plans to switch to synthetic fuels by 2026, and on McLaren’s progress regarding electrification of its vehicles.

Volkswagen has invested the most of any global carmaker by far in electric vehicle production and batteries in an attempt to clean up its image from the Dieselgate emissions scandal and remain in line with governmental carbon reduction targets.

The decision comes as Volkswagen grapples with the uncertainty of the impact of the Ukraine war on its finances, which will also be discussed at next Thursday’s meeting.

  • Top-class Upgrade for Porsche’s Iconic Museum

Top-class Upgrade for Porsche’s Iconic Museum

The Porsche Museum at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is a big attraction for automobile lovers worldwide.  Porsche has confirmed a stunning new upgrade to this iconic museum with lasting changes. The latest additions to the museum commemorate Porsche’s work in the electric car category that dates back quite a few years. The museum now pays tribute to a lot more than Porsche’s racing models, road cars, and engines.

A lobby sits at the museum entrance, which is Porsche’s prologue. An escalator goes up to the top, and this is where visitors can journey back into the history of the chequered global brand. The Head of the Porsche Heritage and Museum, Achim Stejskal, has already stated that the prologue has been revamped and upgraded after more than one year of planning, research, and execution. He has also confirmed the installation of several interactive and brand new touchpoints for visitors along with 20+ stations, unique exhibits, and three models which are fully functional.

The first car here is the oldest surviving car that Ferdinand Porsche worked with. This Egger-Lohner C 2 model dating back to 1898 and is a whopping 123 years old! It has an octagonal electric motor rear-mounted and gets front-axle steering! The very first Porsche was an electric car which is astounding! You will then view the Ferry Porsche and the 356 No 1 Roadster, the first vehicle with the Porsche brand name. Ferdinand Porsche did not limit himself to only electric cars but also designed the first full-hybrid vehicle and wheel hub motors. Curator of the museum, Iris Haker, has also stated that the shift towards hybrid is a critical milestone in the history of Porsche, especially since the iconic founder started not with combustion engines but with electric motors instead. According to him, the wheel hub motor is an innovative exhibit and it also made the motor more steerable as per his opinion.

The Lohner-Porsche model had a couple of generators paired to gas engines that enabled power supply to the batteries, which drove the wheel hub motors at Porsche. The key objective of this museum remains more awareness about Porsche and its history. Many connoisseurs automatically equate the beginning of the brand with the iconic 911 but it goes back a lot earlier than this model.

Porsche SE Faces U.S. Lawsuit Over Dieselgate Scandal

Porsche SE, Volkswagen’s largest shareholder, is facing a lawsuit in the United States over claims related to the carmaker’s diesel emissions scandal. The suit, filed with the Supreme Court of the state of New York in April, targets Porsche SE as well as former members of the management and supervisory boards of Volkswagen, Porsche SE said in its half-year report. Porsche SE, which holds 31.4% of Volkswagen, did not identify the plaintiffs and did not detail or quantify possible claims, saying the action had not yet been served.

“The plaintiffs claim to be shareholders of Volkswagen AG and assert with their action alleged claims of Volkswagen AG on behalf of Volkswagen AG,” Porsche SE said.

The lawsuit marks the latest chapter in the “dieselgate” saga since Volkswagen admitted in September 2015 to using illegal software to rig diesel engine emissions tests. The scandal has cost the carmaker more than 32 billion euros ($38 billion) in fees, fines and legal costs so far.

Volkswagen and Porsche SE are already subject to 4.1 billion euros worth of shareholder claims in relation to the crisis, but it could take years before they are resolved.

Last month, Volkswagen shareholders approved a deal to settle claims against four former executives, including long-time CEO Martin Winterkorn, related to the crisis.

  • Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Breaks Cover

Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Breaks Cover

Porsche has revealed the new Cayenne Turbo GT and yes, it looks absolutely stunning. But let’s directly talk about the engine. The Cayenne Turbo GT gets a 4-litre biturbo V8 which pushes out 632 bhp and 850 Nm of torque. The Cayenne GT Turbo gets 90 bhp more power and an increase of 80 Nm as well compared to the Turbo Coupe. The 0-100 kmph sprint takes 3.3 seconds (0.6 s less than Turbo Coupe ) and top speed is now 300 km/h (an increase of 14 kmph). With even sportier lines and available exclusively as a four-seater Coupé, the Cayenne Turbo GT comes with all available chassis systems fitted as standard and performance tyres developed specially for this model.

The powertrain and chassis also have a unique set-up specifically tuned for the Cayenne Turbo GT. This has been proven by Porsche test driver Lars Kern, who lapped the 20.832 km Nurburgring Nordschleife with the Cayenne Turbo GT in a time of 7:38.9 minutes, setting a new official SUV record.

Compared to the Cayenne Turbo Coupé, the Turbo GT rides up to 17 millimeters lower. Based on this, both the passive chassis components and active control systems have been re-engineered and optimized for handling and performance. They also feature specific calibration to guarantee perfect interaction between them. As an example, the rigidity of the three-chamber air suspension has been increased by up to 15 percent, and the damper characteristics of the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as well as the application of the Power Steering Plus and rear-axle steering have also been adapted. The Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilisation system now operates with performance-oriented control software.

The result is even better roll stability as well as more precise turn-in behavior at higher cornering speeds. In line with this, the Porsche Torque Vectoring system allows higher torque bias ratios. The comprehensively optimized front axle also improves handling. Compared to the Turbo Coupé, its front wheels are an inch wider and the negative camber has been increased by 0.45 degrees to give the new 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa performance tyres, specially developed for the Turbo GT, a larger contact patch. Braking duties are performed by the standard-fit Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system.

The faster-shifting eight-speed Tiptronic S and the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system have also been modified. There is also additional water cooling for the transfer case. The standard sports exhaust system, with its central tailpipes, is unique to the Cayenne Turbo GT. From the middle of the vehicle, the exhaust system, including the rear silencer, is made from lightweight and particularly heat-resistant titanium. An additional weight saving is achieved through the omission of the centre silencer.

Optionally available with paintwork in the new Arctic Grey color, the Cayenne Turbo GT gets a GT-specific front apron with striking spoiler lip and enlarged side cooling air intakes, which create a unique front view. A contoured carbon roof and black wheel arch extensions, together with 22-inch GT Design wheels in Neodyme, dominate its side view. The carbon side plates fitted lengthwise to the roof spoiler are GT-specific, as is the adaptively extendable rear spoiler’s lip, which is 25 mm larger than that fitted to the Turbo. This increases downforce at the car’s top speed by up to 40 kilograms. The rear view is rounded off by a striking diffuser panel made of carbon.

Inside you get eight-way adjustable sport seats and each come GT-specific with perforated seat centre panels in Alcantara, contrast accents in Neodyme or Arctic Grey and ‘turbo GT’ lettering on their headrests. With the Turbo GT, Porsche also brings in the next-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. PCM 6.0 is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay but now also allows for in-depth integration of Apple Music and Apple Podcasts. In addition, the infotainment system now also includes Android Auto, which means that all popular smartphones can now be integrated.

  • Porsche Setting Up Battery JV With Customcells For An EV Future

Porsche Setting Up Battery JV With Customcells For An EV Future

Porsche has made waves around the world with its Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo EVs which have been dubbed as the most driver-centric EVs in the world, more so than even Tesla’s groundbreaking vehicles. To further an electrified future, like all things Volkswagen group, it is forming a joint venture with Customcells that will create high-performance batteries that will significantly reduce charge times.

Like Porsche, Customcells is also a German company hailing from the Southern German region specializing in lithium-ion batteries aiming to create packs that have higher energy density than what Porsche is already using in cars like the Taycan.

More importantly, it is part of a broadened push towards enhancing the battery supply chain in Europe which is currently dominated by Asia. The Volkswagen group has been making huge investments in this space as the EU has stricter emissions norms which means European manufacturers have to go green faster than automakers around the world.

One of the keys to achieving better battery efficacy is enhancing the energy density which in turn results in less raw material being used. It will also cut battery production costs and help make electric cars more affordable.

As a part of the JV, Porsche doesn’t disclose its investment but does say it is a number upwards of 10 million Euros and it holds an 80 percent stake in the venture. The production facility in the equation will have an aim to deliver 100 kWh of capacity which could service about 1000 cars per year. This is a tie-in from what Porsche chief executive officer Oliver Blume said in April which was indicative of the legendary German sports cars marquee ramping up its e-mobility plans for a German factory in Tuebingen for battery production. It so happens this JV with Customcells is based in Tuebingen.

Porsche parent, Volkswagen has even broader plans of building 6 battery cell plants across Europe and expand its infrastructure for the charging of electric vehicles.

  • Porsche Expands Customisation Project Division For One-Off Model Requests

Porsche Expands Customisation Project Division For One-Off Model Requests

It’s not the first time we are seeing Porsche offering customization options and it’s also a common trend among premium car buyers. But now Porsche is expanding its Exclusive Manufaktur program along with the Tequipment and Classic divisions. Now this will give the chance to its customers who want to make their Porsches exclusive and one-off. This service will be offered across range and not just for sports cars or SUVs or any specific model. And there is something for classic Porsches as well, but we’ll come to it in a bit.

Porsche has extended the range of products and services in the divisions in a way that customers can modify their vehicles to bespoke one-off units. This is an interpretation of the Sonderwunsch program, which literally translates to “special request,” Porsche’s customization from the 1970s. To be precise, it is offering exterior wrap options, individual starting numbers, prints on the floor mats, illuminated door entry guards, and logo projectors in the vehicle doors among others. The unique part about this program is that the option is not limited to just new models. Yes! The personalization also extends to used vehicles and also on the table is customizations for off-road use.

The Tequipment division in Porsche’s gallery also offers a range of accessories and retrofit options for individual customer vehicles. Now coming to classic vehicles, Porsche is currently focusing on spare parts supply and factory restorations in a bid to keep them in working condition. Now obviously, handling projects which are too radical are best for aftermarket, but the carmaker will be accepting all those projects that it finds sensible and feasible. Also, Porsche will archive every one-off request and keep them in the database.
