    Country’s top telecom digital services provider, Telenor Pakistan, and the country’s leading food delivery service, foodpanda, have announced collaboration in three key areas namely marketing, operations, and cash management with an aim to offer exclusive discounts to their mutual customers in Karachi, Hyderabad, and other cities in the southern region.

    Continuing their pursuit to the shared mission of empowering the Pakistani society, Telenor Pakistan and Telenor Microfinance Bank have partnered with the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to facilitate its beneficiaries across Pakistan in several ways that include creating business opportunities, granting microcredit, and extending support in education and health in the long run.

    As per the agreement, Telenor Pakistan and Telenor Microfinance Bank will select BISP beneficiaries as potential retailers for GSM & Financial products.     Li-Ning Pakistan has made its debut with a flagship in the capital city of Lahore.

    The Chinese sportswear and accessories giant says the new Gulberg flagship, opened late last month, signals a nationwide expansion in the territory following the introduction of Li-Ning products in resellers earlier this year.

    Pakistan’s international badminton champion Mahoor Shehzad has been made the face of the brand in this market.

    Li-Ning was founded by its namesake, a prominent Chinese gold medallist athlete in 1990, before becoming one of the world’s largest sports apparel brands.

    Li-Ning operates more than 6400 stores and outlets worldwide.

    Axiata’s share price dip after edotco cancels Pakistan deal

    Axiata Group Bhd’s share price fell as much as 11 sen this morning after its subsidiary edotco Group Sdn Bhd canceled a US$940 million deal in Pakistan.

    The stock fell as much as 11 sen to a low of RM4.50 this morning from its last adjusted closing price of RM4.61. At 11.06am, the stock fell 1.3% or 6 sen to RM4.55 with 584,700 shares traded.

    Trading in Axiata’s securities was halted for an hour from 9am earlier before resuming at 10am.

    On Monday, edotco said it will not go ahead with the acquisition of 13,000 towers from Pakistan Mobile Communications Ltd, which would have made it the eight largest independent tower company globally.

    The US$940 million (RM3.9 billion) deal, which was in the works for more than a year, was terminated due to the non-fulfilment of a number of conditions within the timeframe stipulated under the sale and purchase agreement.

    Singapore online retailer Ezbuy has expanded, opening Ezbuy Pakistan.

    And already local media are tipping the site to be twice the size of Pakistan’s existing online retailer Daraz.pk, offering 3 million products, ranging from apparel through to electronics.

    Ezbuy Pakistan will offer products from local and overseas suppliers, with overseas orders shipped direct in much the same way Alibaba’s Aliexpress serves regional customers.

    “Our main agenda is to provide great value quality products to Pakistanis at their doorstep,” said co-founder and chief strategy officer at ezbuy.com, Vincent Xue Bin.

    “We would have three platforms; first, ezbuy cross-border and local products; second, Haute Shop fashion products, and a third, B2B serves businesses,” he said in a local media interview.

    “China is manufacturing good quality products at great value rates compared to other countries including Pakistan and we can deliver it to the Pakistani people, schools, universities, hospitals with minimum delivery charges. Our trust with the Pakistani buyers is our main asset.”

    Ezbuy Pakistan is a joint venture between the Singapore operator and a group of Pakistani investors, led by Kamran Shaukat, who says the response to the site since it went live on August 1 has been “overwhelming”.

    Another advantage Shaukat points out for Pakistani suppliers selling on the site is that the platform opens doors to customers abroad. Ezbuy currently operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan, but products are shipped worldwide.

    Axiata to sell loss-making Pakistan unit

    Axiata Group Bhd is planning to sell its entire 89% stake in Multinet Pakistan (Private) Ltd for a sum of US$1 on a cash-free and debt-free basis.

    The group told the stock exchange that its unit Axiata Investments (Labuan) Ltd (AIL) had entered into a share purchase agreement with Adnan Asdar Ali, who currently holds the remaining 11% stake in Multinet.

    It noted that Multinet’s financial performance has been declining for the last few years with accumulated losses of PKR754 million (RM25.64 million) for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2017.

    Accordingly, the group said Multinet’s contribution to its financial and business performance is immaterial.

    Axiata assured that the exercise will not have any material effect on the group’s consolidated net assets, gearing and consolidated earnings for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2018.

    Multinet is engaged in the business of providing telecommunication and electronic media services including internet services, design, development, implementation of networks including a wide range of non-mobile telecommunications services with a focus on the business-to-business (B2B) segment of the market.

    Axiata gained 2.7% or 11 sen at RM4.17 with 5.75 million shares being traded.

    Alibaba buys Pakistani online retailer Daraz

    Alibaba has bought Pakistani e-commerce firm Daraz, as the Chinese tech giant looks to increase its presence in South Asia.

    Financial details of the transaction, which was announced on Tuesday, were undisclosed.

    Daraz, founded in 2012, is backed by European tech incubator Rocket Internet. It operates in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Nepal as well as Pakistan.

    The deal marks another foray for billionaire entrepreneur Jack Ma’s Alibaba into the South Asian market. The e-commerce titan invested in India’s popular payment app Paytm in 2015.

    “Together with Daraz, we can now empower entrepreneurs to better serve consumers in the region through our technology and expertise,” Alibaba CEO Daniel Zhang said in a statement Tuesday.

    Daraz will continue to operate under the same brand, Rocket Internet said in a statement.

The two day event brought together innovators, key industry players, startups and experts to witness and participate in the historic event where Telenor Velocity partnered with Plan9 and DIY Geeks to provide passionate developers the opportunity to innovate and present one click digitized solutions for everyday problems.

    The IoT Hackathon took place at Arfa Software Technology Park, the province’s hub of technological innovation. At the event Waqar Nayyar, Head of IoT at Telenor Pakistan, introduced the new IoT Platform and IOT products to the participants along with sharing Telenor Pakistan’s vision of fostering a digital revolution in the country and the company’s extraordinary initiatives in the IOT ecosystem.     Telenor Pakistan will continue to work with the winners of the Hackathon to help them refine and scale their products and solutions. The event also provided developers the opportunity to connect with similar startups, likeminded entrepreneurs and investor for potential future collaborations.
