Binance Halts Crypto Trading for Singapore Users

Binance announced a new round of curbs for its Singapore business, restricting crypto trading for users in the city-state.

Users in Singapore will no longer be able to deposit fiat money, trade or purchase crypto via Binance.com from October 26, according to a statement.

Advisers were also told to cease all related trades, withdraw fiat assets and redeem tokens by the deadline.

We will be restricting Singapore users in respect of the regulated payments services in line with our commitment to compliance, said Binance. Our aim is to create a sustainable ecosystem around blockchain technology and digital assets, and we hope that such efforts will help the industry grow in the local market in the long-run.

While the Monetary Authority of Singapore has issued warnings about potential breaches of the Payment Services Act at Binance.com, which is operated by Binance, it is currently reviewing a license application from Binance.sg, which is operated by Binance Asia Services (BAS).

Binance.sg is viewed by some users as the lighter version of Binance.com with a smaller offering and significantly less liquidity.

  • Another forex trading platform swindles hundreds of thousands of dollars

Another forex trading platform swindles hundreds of thousands of dollars

Yet another fraudulent foreign exchange trading platform that cheated people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars has been exposed in HCMC. Nga, a resident of HCMC’s District 7 spends most of her time these days reading updates about FXTradingMarkets in a Facebook group with 4,200 members.

On June 25, the group received a screenshot of a notice believed to be from the Lion Group, which ran the platform, that it would cease to operate from the next day onwards. Nga has invested VND1.4 billion ($60,700) in the platform; and many others have also invested billions of dong. Now, they do not know how they can get back the money.

A month earlier, the HCMC police had warned people not to trade on currency trading platforms, saying there was a high risk of losing their money. They had found that four people from the Lion Group were hosting forums in various places to talk about how to get rich quick.

Since 2019, the group has been advertising FXTradingMarkets as a platform headquartered and licensed in the UK and linked to another platform called UKTrade.

An investor had to deposit at least $1,000 and would get its equivalent in FXT, a cryptocurrency the platform uses to trade.

Investors would bet on whether a currency would rise or fall within the next 30 seconds. If they were right, they got 95 percent of the bet as profit, but lose everything if they were wrong.

However, the platform also advertised that everyone could earn one percent a day on their investment if they allowed “experts” to make the bet on their behalf.

Investors also got a commission if they introduced new clients.

At first, the investors could trade the FXT currency with their leader for cash, but starting at the end of February, the platform no longer allowed this trade, and investors had to trade in other cryptocurrency markets with a rate of 1 FXT equals $0.3, meaning a 70 percent loss.

“When similar platforms crashed, we were concerned, but the managers told us not to worry,” Nga said.

Many celebrities endorsed FXT and so investors continued to place their trust in it, she said.

Earlier this month the platform posted a notice saying “upgrade ongoing” and did not allow investors to see their account balance. On June 25, when the leaders gave their final notice, 1 FXT was worth $0.0022.

That means Nga’s investment of $60,000 was then worth only $133, or a 99.78 percent loss.

The other platform UKTrade also crashed on June 26.

Tam of Thu Duc District said he invested VND2.8 billion in UKTrade in April but “most of the money is now gone,” adding that thousands of investors lost 95 percent of their money on May 10.

“Because of the pandemic, our experts were not able to analyze the market,” the leaders told investors, asking them to either pour more money in to recover the loss or be removed from the system.

Tam and around 10 other investors joined together to report the platform to the police. Together, they have lost a total of VND6 billion.

Vo Thi Dieu Hien in the central province of Binh Thuan in early May invested VND319 million, but in less than a week she saw all her cryptocurrency gone.

The leaders asked her to submit another 30 percent of her capital to “save” her account and promised higher profits. She did not, and her account was locked right after.

“That’s when I realized I was tricked, so I reported it so others won’t fall into the same trap.”

HCMC and Binh Thuan police said they have received the reports and have done initial investigations. They found that FXTradingMarkets was registered and has servers in the U.S.

There are signs that the administrators are setting up a new website with similar user interface and functions at sp500stock.com, the police said. The website was no longer available at the time of publishing.

This is the latest of many of forex trading platform frauds that have been uncovered in Vietnam of late. Thousands of investors have been duped, even though authorities have repeatedly warned them that these platforms are illegal and highly risky.

DBS Expands Trade Financing Via Contour

The bank, which made its first deal on the platform last year, has moved from Contour’s beta network to its production network.

DBS will offer streamlined digital letters of credit transactions, including the transfer of electronic trade and title documents, for customers across Australia, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore from this month on Contour, according to an announcement on Thursday.

Other members of the Singapore-based blockchain trade finance network include BNP Paribas, Bangkok Bank, ING, HSBC, Standard Chartered and Citi Ventures.

Traditional paper-based LC processes have been a major obstacle to trade growth and created unnecessary complexity, cost and delays, DBS said.

The bank noted that Asia pacific is a «key region» leading the digitization of trade finance as banks and corporates seek to mitigate risk and enhance cost efficiency in the wake of the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) has resumed regular operations on Friday after a technical outage that lasted all day Thursday.

TSE is currently planning to replace the hardware and taking steps, including other maintenance, to ensure normal trading from tomorrow onwards, bourse operator Japan Exchange (JPX) said on Thursday evening.

There was no indication that the exchange’s biggest glitch in a decade was caused by hacking or other cybersecurity breaches.

JPX explained that Thursday’s outage was the result of a hardware failure. «The switchover from the failed device to the backup device did not work properly, and as a result, market information could not be distributed, JPX said.

JPX has been on the receiving end of criticism over its crisis management and poor communication to investors regarding the outage.

The matter has also raised questions over Japan’s digital systems and infrastructure, particularly as the country seeks to boost its status as an international financial hub.

  • Economy VN-Index gains for fourth consecutive session

Economy VN-Index gains for fourth consecutive session

The VN-Index edged up 0.14 percent to 897.47 points Wednesday, with trading volume significantly down compared to the last several sessions. The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the VN-Index is based, saw a fairly balanced session with 183 stocks gaining and 198 losings.

Total trading volume fell around 20 percent compared to the previous session, to VND5.05 trillion ($217.57 million), after two weeks when daily liquidity consistently surpassed the VND6 trillion mark.

Although the benchmark VN-Index had been in the red for most of the session, a surge in buy orders within the final 15 minutes of trading, also known as at-the-close orders, brought the index up above its opening.

The VN30-Index for HoSE’s largest caps also rose 0.14 percent, with 11 tickers gaining and 11 losings.

Topping gains was PLX of petroleum distributor Petrolimex, up 2.6 percent. Results in the oil and gas sector were mixed, with POW of electricity generator PetroVietnam Power keeping its opening price, while GAS of energy giant PetroVietnam Gas shed 0.4 percent.

Of the VN30, most oil and gas stocks rose Wednesday. PVC of PetroVietnam Chemical and Services surged 7 percent, PVB of PetroVietnam Coating added 5.4 percent, OIL of PetroVietnam Oil 2.6 percent, and PVD of PetroVietnam Drilling 2.25 percent.

Gains in this sector seem to be in line with the rise in global oil prices. The threat of a hurricane to America’s coastal refineries is causing oil prices to surge on the threat to fuel supplies. As of 5.13 p.m., U.S. benchmarks WTI Crude and Brent Crude were up 2.27 percent and 2.10 percent respectively, to $39.15 and $41.38 a barrel.

On the VN30, the next major gainers were MWG of electronics retailer Mobile World, up 1.8 percent, PNJ of jewelry retailer Phu Nhuan Jewelry, up 1.3 percent, FPT of IT services group FPT, 1 percent, and SSI of top brokerage Saigon Securities Inc., 0.6 percent.

VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup, the HoSE’s largest cap, added 0.5 percent this session. VHM of its real estate arm Vinhomes also gained 0.5 percent, while VRE of retail arm Vincom Retail remained flat.

Leading losses this session was MSN of food conglomerate Masan Group, down 0.9 percent.

Most banking tickers were in the red this session. CTG and BID of state-owned banking giants VietinBank and BIDV slipped 0.8 percent and 0.5 percent respectively.

In the private sector, STB of Sacombank, VPB of VPBank, and HDB of HDBank dropped 0.4 percent, 0.2 percent and 0.2 percent respectively.

Other major losers were VNM of dairy firm Vinamilk, TCH of truck dealer Hoang Huy Group, and ROS of construction firm FLC Faros, all down 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the HNX-Index for the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid- and small-capped stocks, fell 0.05 percent, and the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market rose 0.34 percent.

Foreign investors were net sellers again, to the tune of VND202 billion on all three bourses. The most net sold stocks were VHM of Vinhomes and VNM of Vinamilk.

  • How to Trade Online

    How to Trade Online

Learn to Trade Online- It’s an Intricate Affair

Trading online may not be as easy as you think. Also, it is riskier than many perceive it to be, especially if you are involved in guess work, and haven’t done your homework. Many of us have capitalized on online money making opportunities, leaving no stone unturned. For those who are net savvy or perhaps just more entrepreneurial, taking a step into trading online requires sound trading skills. You may be privy to some of this information, or be using a renowned company for the same. Either way, it is not a trade for the weak at heart as there will be grave losses without informed decisions.

    Take Courses on Online Trading

Before we get to the nitty-gritty on how to trade online and go about perfecting this art (if at all that’s possible), let’s examine the options available to you

    Foreign Exchange Trading

This is the first type of trading amateurs look at to make a buck. If you are not familiar with online trading at all, this may be the perfect starting point for you. It involves buying and selling popularly used and traded currencies. Making a profit is easy once you learn when to buy and/or sell

    Trading in Shares

This is what you ordinarily come across when you catch a glimpse of NYSE or NASDAQ on CNN. It is buying and selling of company shares and usually attracts the richest investors. Take ample time to learn this trade prior to considering putting any money in

Traders Buy and Sell Shares on the Stock Exchange

    Binaries

Are you a gambler by any chance?  Ever placed an all-or-nothing bet? It’s basically going all out and expecting to either win, or end up broke. Based on predictions of how a certain event will pan-out, it is quite simple and only requires some insight, or instincts regarding an event.

How Can One Prepare for Online Trading?

    Financial (market) literacy

For starters, you will not be gambling a few pennies to the dollar, nor will you be gauging weak odds for marginal profit-making. This form of trading revolves around buying and selling financial securities. That being the case, you need to invest A LOT into learning about commodities, equities and currency indices. You may need to read on more than you planned to- it is essential because trading transcends different market sectors and may require knowledge from your college diploma. Read literature on how to win on Wall Street, analyzing financial markets, and of course, how trading online can help you earn a living.

Many of these learnings can be achieved for pennies on the dollar (unlike trading online). You should make use of online shows and television programs oriented toward financial markets. Yahoo Finance, CBS Market Watch and the like all cater for novice, as well as professional traders. For those seeking top notch insight from the comfort of their living rooms, Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal will not disappoint.

     Market Literacy is Important

    Seminars on Trading

Find professionals, no matter how much they cost, to guide you along the way. Most people (unfortunately) take their first trading steps with money allotted for something else. This, by the way, is not recommended nor endorsed by any of us. However, seeing as we have no control over which funds are spent for this endeavor, we can only recommend that you find specialists in the same. Also, while in the process of attending seminars, it would be beneficial to find a mentor- specifically, someone who has worlds of experience trading. They should also be trading in the field YOU want to participate in, otherwise their insight may be superficial.

    Practice makes perfect

There are online games that get you heading in the right direction. These simulations may allow you to play with a little bit of cash, which is a great way to ensure you are not spending thriftily and losing embarrassingly. This paper trading removes the psychological effect of losing money. Once you move on to trading with your own cash, the emotions will kick in, but it helps a great deal if you have some foresight as to what may/ may not happen.

To finalize your lessons and find your footing in the trading world, use credible and renowned firms to engage with. Forums can help you find the right ones, or if you have a mentor, they will undoubtedly link to one- or two worth checking out. If you are up for it, and your trading game is witnessing growth, take on a diverse portfolio. The more options you have to trade with, the more you can spread your risk and reduce your losses.
