    Genesis Luxury takes on Coach India

    Indian fashion conglomerate Genesis Luxury Fashion has formed an exclusive partnership to New York design house Coach to introduce it to the Indian market.

    The first Coach India store will open to coincide with the brand’s 74th anniversary this year.

    “We are confident the brand’s commitment to heritage and innovative design will be warmly embraced by the growing number of Indian luxury consumers, who are innately drawn to craftsmanship, ” says Genesis Luxury MD Sanjay Kapoor.

    “Coach has tremendous potential in our market, and with our shared vision and well-defined strategies, we are focussed on accelerating its retail presence and visibility across key cities in India over the next few years. ”

    Coach international group president Ian Bickley says the company is confident its luxury store environment featuring designer Stuart Vevers will be “embraced and coveted” by fashionable Indian buyers.

    Established in New York City in 1941, Coach is known for its leather goods.

    After consolidating the Indian fashion market with such designer labels as Bwitch and Satya Paul, Genesis Colors (established in 2001) moved into marketing and distributing global luxury brands through its subsidiary Genesis Luxury Fashion in 2008. Its portfolio includes Burberry, Bottega Veneta,Canali, Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, G-Star Raw, Hugo Boss, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Paul Smith, Tumi and Villeroy & Boch.

    Tumi Japan buys out partner

    Luxury travel goods retailer Tumi has bought out its local Tumi Japan partner to gain full control of its retail and wholesale activities in what is one of the world’s largest luxury markets.

    Tumi Japan runs a network of 13 stores and an eCommerce website, as well as distributing Tumi product across an extra 150 points of sale across the country.

    CEO/president Jerome Griffith says the acquisition of the partner’s 50 per cent stake is aimed at strengthening the company’s position within the Japanese and Asia Pacific region.

    “We have been pleased with the strong acceptance of our brand among Japanese consumers, and remain excited about the long-term growth prospects of this region. We look forward to welcoming the Tumi Japan team into the family and look forward to integrating this region into the business, sharing our expertise, brand power and retail strategy to drive it to the next level,” Griffith said in a statement.

    Tumi expects the acquisition will be earnings neutral to its consolidated financial results this year, and accretive to earnings thereafter.

    New MD for Tumi Asia

    Fernando Ciccarelli has been named the new senior VP and MD of Tumi Asia.

    Ciccarelli joins the luxury travel luggage retailer after a decade and a half with Coach, Inc.

    “I have always admired Tumi’s focus on constant innovation, intelligent design and unparalleled performance,” he said in a statement.

    “The opportunity for Tumi in Asia is limitless and I am excited to be leading the next stage of growth for the brand in the region.”

    In his new role, he will be responsible for growing the brand in the region, specifically overseeing operations and overall business management in Asia Pacific.

    Based in Hong Kong, Ciccarelli will report directly to Jerome Griffith, global CEO and president of Tumi.

    “We are delighted to welcome Fernando on board at this exciting time for Tumi in Asia. He is a proven leader who brings with him years of direct retail experience in this region”, said Griffith.
