    Utilizing ZTE’s microwave technology, the partnership aims to provide reliable, high-speed communication to remote islands and rural regions, granting more Indonesians access to IOH’s 4G network.

    Indonesia faces significant challenges in building communication infrastructure due to its rugged terrain and high costs. Traditional wired communication solutions often fall short, leaving many areas disconnected and limiting economic and social growth.

    To address this, Indosat and ZTE have deployed more than 550 ultra-capacity backbone microwave links nationwide, connecting nearly 80% of major cities and remote regions. The R2300 G6 single-socket high-performance server, powered by Intel Xeon 6 with P-cores, delivers improved computing performance and 18% energy efficiency enhancement.     FCC bans new telecom gear from Huawei and ZTE

    For years, even before 2019 when Huawei was placed on the Entity List banning it from access to its American supply chain (including Google), the company was considered a national security threat along with ZTE. The Chinese phone and telecom equipment makers were often accused of putting backdoors in their handsets and equipment, allowing them to obtain confidential information and send it to servers in Beijing. Both firms denied the allegations multiple times.

    Axios reports that the FCC announced new rules banning U.S. sales and imports of new telecommunications equipment made by both Huawei and ZTE.  In a tweet, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr wrote, “Today, the FCC takes an unprecedented step to safeguard our networks and strengthen America’s national security. Our unanimous decision represents the first time in FCC history that we have voted to prohibit the authorization of new equipment based on national security concerns.”

    To be clear, the ban affects new equipment only. Gear that has already received FCC approval can still be shipped to the states.
    FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel added, “These new rules are an important part of our ongoing actions to protect the American people from national security threats involving telecommunications.” Huawei told Axios that it had no comment and ZTE had yet to respond. Huawei and ZTE are among the largest suppliers of telecom equipment worldwide. Last year, the FCC voted to spend $1.9 billion to rip out Huawei and ZTE equipment already used by rural wireless firms.
    In 2019, a law was passed forcing carriers that receive federal subsidies to purge their networks of equipment supplied by companies considered threats to U.S. national security. Most rural carriers are subsidized by the Universal Service Fund (USF). The USF is funded by fees charged to subscribers of wireless providers and is managed by the FCC.
    The FCC was given one year after the passage of the Secure Equipment Act last November to vote on the order to ban Huawei and ZTE gear. Besides the two familiar names to phone enthusiasts, three lesser-known Chinese firms are affected by the order. These companies include telecom firm Hytera Communications, surveillance equipment producer Dahua Technology, and video surveillance firm Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology.
    Hikvision released a statement that says, “This decision by the FCC will do nothing to protect U.S. national security, but will do a great deal to make it more harmful and more expensive for U.S. small businesses, local authorities, school districts, and individual consumers to protect themselves, their homes, businesses and property.” The company will continue to do business with its U.S. customers “in full compliance” of U.S. regulations.
    This year the four bipartisan FCC commissioners have voted unanimously on robocall enforcement and on plans for spectrum-sharing. And now, the four have all voted in favor of banning new Huawei and ZTE telecom gear from entering the U.S.

    ZTE has signed a 5G innovation cooperation agreement with True Group, a leading digital lifestyle enabler in Thailand.

    Under the agreement, both parties will focus on the 5G joint innovation center to develop 5G networks, digital services, smart islands, intelligent manufacturing, research innovation, talent training and other fields, with a great commitment to comprehensively carrying out 5G-oriented innovative technology and business cooperation.

    According to the agreement, both parties will set up a joint innovation lab in Bangkok’s True Digital Park to test and verify 5G technologies and applications. The innovative products, solutions and applications developed by these joint efforts will be directly deployed in the “Super South+” test field in Phuket, bringing the latest digital service experiences to local users.

    AIS and ZTE to Launch ‘5G A-Z Center’ in Thailand

    ZTE and AIS have jointly launched Thailand’s first 5G innovation hub, named “5G A-Z Center.” Both parties have signed an MOU of a strategic partnership to develop 5G tech and enhance the digital infrastructure construction, to bring excellent 5G experiences to Thailand, and strengthen the country’s competitiveness on 5G.

    “We are here because 5G is a technology to power the country,” said Somchai Lertsutiwong, CEO of AIS. “As the network service provider with the most frequency spectra and the best network coverage in Thailand, we prioritize sustainable innovation for the country.”

    Currently, AIS has strategically partnered with ZTE on three components. Firstly, they are upgrading Thailand’s 5G network, not only in terms of speed, but also intelligence, to make the network control itself in real-time. At the same time, both parties have jointly developed solutions for business sectors and enhanced competitive capabilities under Thailand 4.0. In addition, they have delivered a vast range of 5G services to improve the quality of people’s lives in Thailand.

    At the center, ZTE has released a series of next-generation RAN products. The AAU (Active Antenna Unit) for 5G mmWave bandwidth, first jointly developed by ZTE and AIS, can support 1.2GHz and increase data throughput by 50%. The power consumption of the next-gen sub-6GHz TDD massive MIMO has decreased by 25%, reflecting the demand of Thailand to provide excellent user experiences. Moreover, the next-generation FDD 3G/4G/5G multi-mode Massive MIMO, with its performance improved by 100% compared to the previous generation, is going to be verified in the center and will be deployed in the network of AIS.

    In terms of 5G industrial applications, ZTE and AIS, with the aim of empowering various industries and promoting digital transformation through 5G, have demonstrated several industry application scenarios at the “5G A-Z Center,” including 5G AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle), 5G machine vision, 5G XR, 5G Holography and so on.

    In addition, both parties have launched the new 5G ZTE Blade A72 handset, which is expected to hit the market in October 2022, alongside other smart terminals such as 5G CPE and 5G Pocket Wifi.

    The cooperation between AIS and ZTE is a crucial step in achieving the goal of becoming a Cognitive Tech-Co by developing the 5G smart autonomous network.     DITO and ZTE Launch Super Core Data Center in Philippines

    DITO Telecommunity, one of the major telecommunications corporations in the Philippines, has launched the DITO Super Core Data Center in Batangas, Philippines, powered by ZTE.

    The data center complies with the Tier III design standard and will become the first center in the Philippines to pass such standard certification. The DITO Super Core Data Center is designed to further improve local digital infrastructure and enhance data services.

    The design of the data center focuses on the security of network transmission through resiliency against natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes. The facilities also pay more attention to the growing concern of the telecommunications industry on energy efficiency and environmental protection in such design and operations.

    As the major partner of DITO Telecommunity in this project, ZTE has shared its rich end-to-end expertise, from analyzing local process specifications in the early stages of the project, consultation on construction solutions, to the design of solutions, and project delivery, ensuring the smooth and timely turnover of the data center.

    ZTE’s iDCIM intelligent management system has been adopted in the building’s equipment management to improve the operation efficiency of the data center and achieve green energy savings. The system manages operation parameters of the data center in real-time to provide data support for efficient energy saving and O&M.

    Compared to the traditional data center featuring multiple interfaces, complex procedures and a long construction period, the DITO Super Core Data Center employs ZTE’s micro-module solution, which is modular and standardized. Multiple modules can be installed in parallel, enabling the delivery time to be shortened by 60%.

    “We can regard the DITO Super Core Data Center as the heart of the body. Only a safe and healthy beating heart can support the business. The data center adopts the advanced and innovative technology in the industry. Through its multiple-level protections, the data center is truly reliable ,” said Wan Min, president of ZTE Philippines. “It will also become the first Uptime Tier-III data center in the Philippines. By adhering to energy conservation and emission reduction, it has achieved a lower PUE with an intelligent energy management system, which is efficient and environmentally friendly.”

    ZTE Launches Industry’s Smallest 5GC Product

    ZTE Corporation has unveiled the industry’s smallest 5GC product, dubbed the Mini5GC.

    ZTE’s new Mini5GC features miniaturization, lightweight, simple networking, and ultra-high integration. The company states that it can well facilitate safe production, flexible adjustment of work sites, and efficient and accurate emergency rescue in mining areas.

    This is part of its continued innovations in 5G core network products to boost the in-depth development of 5G private networks.

    For Mini5GC, the number of general network functions is customized from more than 10 to just four, and the network communication and resource occupation are optimized. Thus, a lightweight 5GC can be deployed on one 1U server.

    Moreover, the size of the server is reduced to A3 paper, and its weight is reduced to less than 5kg. With high integration, the 5GC product has 5Gbps forwarding capability and excellent performance for the same size in the industry.

    With simple deployment, the Mini5GC can adapt to any rack, and its power consumption is about 100 watts. Also, through pre-installation of software and hardware upon delivery, on-site one-click modification, and plug-and-play the required services can be quickly launched in several hours.

    To date, ZTE’s Mini5GC has carried out pilot verification in five typical fields, including mining, transportation, manufacturing and government affairs. ZTE and SHAANXI ZHIN TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. have jointly built a mine-use 5GC based on the Mini5GC to provide in-place data distribution for underground mining, so as to improve mining service efficiency and provide a high-availability network to ensure safe production in the mining area.

    Moving forward, ZTE says it will work with more industry partners to integrate product innovation and business model innovation to help operators explore intelligent digital development and boost the prosperity of the 5G industries.

    China Mobile Partners With ZTE to Unveil World’s First 5G NTN Field Trial

    ZTE Corporation has announced its collaboration with China Mobile Research Institute, China Transport Telecommunications & Information Group, the Beijing Branch of China Mobile and other partners to showcase what it calls the world’s first 5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) field trial at the 5G-Advanced Industry Development Summit in Beijing.

    The company said in its press release that this brings achievement breakthroughs in two aspects, ultra-long distances as far as 36,000 km and direct connection between mobile phones, that are enabled by two innovations including dynamic compensation of big latency and RF data conversion between the satellite and terrestrial.

    The trial was end-to-end and demonstrated services such as short messages and voice services, both with satisfactory performances. The trial included a comprehensive set of tests of the direct connection between the mobile phone and the satellite, which supports a network with ubiquitous connectivity, more use cases, highly integrated industry chains and low O&M costs.

    The trial was based on the 3GPP R17 and on a network architecture using high-orbit satellites for transparent forwarding to implement end-to-end link interconnection among terminals, satellites, terrestrial gateways, base stations, core networks and servers.

    The L-band satellite and terrestrial gateways, located between the NTN terminal and the base station, were responsible for air-interface message transmission. The terrestrial gateways were interconnected with the 5G NTN base station. The terminal was connected to the terrestrial core network and service platform through the satellite, gateways and NTN base station in turn to implement end-to-end service interconnection.

    During this trial, communication cases such as synchronization, broadcasting, accessing and data transmission, and services such as short text messages and voice messages were successfully tested. The latency of 64-byte ping is about 4s. The performance met the expectations, indicating the solution is very likely feasible. In the future, there will be emergency communication service pilot projects in Beijing, Yunnan and other provinces.

    Together with the terrestrial network, the 5G non-terrestrial network (5G NTN) forms an integrated ubiquitous network with a variety of use cases, highly integrated industry chains and low O&M costs. It uses satellite communication for powerful coverage to meet people’s demands for better accessibility of the mobile internet around the world and provide emergency, marine, remote areas and IoT communication services, facilitating the comprehensive development of CHBN (Customer, Home, Business, New).

    The satellite telecommunication network can reuse the cellular network and significantly reduce terminal cost. In addition, the number of cellular network base stations and centralized deployment can significantly reduce deployment and O&M costs.

    In this new stage of 5G-Advanced, this end-to-end 5G NTN field trial’s success helps build a solid foundation for a direct phone-to-satellite communication business model. This service provides users with more reliable and consistent experiences and connects space, air, ground and sea, forming an integrated ubiquitous network.

    ZTE Reports Double-Digit Gains in Revenue and Profit in H1

    ZTE has posted its financial results for the first half of 2022. According to the results, for the six months ended 30 June 2022, ZTE achieved operating revenue of RMB 59.82 billion, 12.7% higher than a year earlier. During the period, net profit attributable to holders of ordinary shares of the listed company reached RMB 4.57 billion, an increase of 12.0%, and net profit after extraordinary items attributable to holders of ordinary shares of the listed company amounted to RMB 3.73 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 65.8%. Basic earnings per share was RMB 0.96.

    In the first half of 2022, ZTE, despite the challenges of the pandemic and complex external environment, has ensured the security and stability of its own supply chain, realized continuous delivery to its global customers and continuously improved the company’s operational quality and efficiency, leveraging its advantages of being an ultimate cloud company, rich experience in digital transformation, mature business continuity system, and its own self-developed cloud platform that can support tens of thousands of people across the globe to work online.

    ZTE has been committed to strengthening its end-to-end R&D investment and innovations. In the first half of 2022, the company’s R&D spending reached RMB 10.15 billion, accounting for 17.0% of its total operating revenue.

    From January to June of 2022, ZTE’s operating revenue in both domestic and international markets and its three major businesses (carriers’ networks, government and enterprise, and consumer business) all achieved double-digit increase year on year. For the domestic market, the operating revenue reached RMB 40.60 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.9%, accounting for 67.9% of the total operating revenue, while for the international market, the operating revenue amounted to RMB 19.22 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.3%, covering 32.1% of the total operating revenue.

    In terms of carriers’ networks, ZTE achieved an operating revenue of RMB 38.72 billion yuan, an increase of 10.5%, compared with a year earlier. In the operators’ traditional network market, ZTE proactively participated in the global 5G constructions including 5G network, Gigabit fiber network and 5G transport network, and continuously strengthened the competitiveness of its products and solutions, building excellent cost-effective networks for its customers and optimizing the market structure accordingly.

    To date, ZTE has entered into 5G cooperation with over 110 operators across the globe, covering major markets including Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Meanwhile, the company has actively seized the opportunity of domestic operators’ cloud-network transformation, and deeply integrated its own capabilities with their requirements while providing its well-matched products and solutions. ZTE has secured the domestic operators’ centralized procurements for multiple years.

    In terms of government and corporate business, ZTE’s operating revenue increased by 18.3% year on year to RMB 6.71 billion during the period. Focusing on the internet, finance, electric power, transportation, government affairs and the industry, and relying on its “Precision Cloud Network” and “Digital Nebula”, the company has deeply cultivated the digital transformation of the industry, promoted the deep integration of 5G and the industry, and fully participated in major projects such as the east-data-west-computing project in China.     In consumer business, ZTE harvested revenue of RMB 14.39 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.5% in the first half of 2022.     During the period, ZTE, while consolidating the businesses in the first curve represented by wireless and wired products, has been rapidly expanding its businesses in the second curve, including server and storage products, terminals, 5G industry applications, automotive electronics, and digital energy. In H1, the company has achieved around 40% increase year on year in terms of the operating revenue from its second curve business.

    China Mobile and ZTE Complete Commercial Trial of Co-Routing Detection

    ZTE, together with the Yunnan Branch of China Mobile, has completed the commercial trial of co-routing detection in China Mobile’s existing optical network in Yunnan province, China.

    The trial involves two scenarios: co-cable routing detection and co-ditch routing detection. The trial result shows that there will be an early warning of active/standby paths in the same optical fiber or route so that it can be bypassed in time based on fiber sensing. In addition, the originally dumb fiber resource will be visualized. Thus, the operator’s service reliability and network O&M efficiency can be greatly improved.

    As digital transformation is developing rapidly in all industries, the optical network is facing a systems intelligence need. And intelligent O&M emerges as one of the main focuses when addressing the problem of low service survivability caused by co-routing.

    To resolve this, China Mobile has cooperated with ZTE to verify the feasibility of co-cable and co-ditch routing detection of service paths on the existing network, including active/standby service routing detection and inbound/outbound service route detection at specific sites.

    According to the verification, ZTE’s optical network co-routing detection function can specifically detect co-cable routing of 14 optical cables and 54 fiber cores by dynamic parameter optimization, AI algorithm and experience threshold adjustment. Also, ZTE takes contrast analysis and on-site specialist inspection to exactly detect co-ditch routing of 12 optical cables and about 20 ditches in 4 core equipment rooms. The verification proves that ZTE can provide the operator with flexible optical network co-routing detection methods, along with real-time, accurate and reliable intelligent O&M measures, which well guarantees service survivability and alleviates the difficulty in dumb fiber resource management.

    “The function can effectively solve actual problems in production and operation. Before this, active/standby routes are planned on the resource management map and routing is determined manually, which leads to high error rate. Additionally, the accuracy of resource management information is hardly under control, thereby increasing routing risks,” said a spokesperson at the Network Management Center of China Mobile Yunnan.

    “In the original routing detection, people pulled or pushed the cable underground manually, which resulted in low efficiency and service interruption. However, the co-routing detection now leverages dumb fiber resources without service switching. The innovative function remarkably reduces manpower and ensures service survivability while allowing resource management information modifications and route re-planning to avoid service interruption losses,” he added.

    The trial will further promote the growth of the operator’s autonomous optical network and lay a strong foundation for its intelligent network in the “east-data-west-computing” project.

    ZTE has passed the industry-first GSMA NESAS (Network Equipment Security Assurance Scheme) 2.1 audit for network equipment vendor development and product lifecycle processes with its 5G New Radio (NR) and 5G Core Network (5GC) products.

    The audit is implemented by ATSEC, a Swedish independent information security company designated by GSMA, based on the latest GSMA NESAS 2.1 released on January 28, 2022.

    The increasing dependence of society and business on networks brings more complexity to network convergence, and the supply chain security of network equipment vendors has become paramount. The security requirements for “sourcing of third-party components”, which have been added in the latest version of NESAS, stand out in the supply chain. As an industry security assurance framework, GSMA NESAS is constantly iterating on the basis of application experiences, new security needs and feedback from all stakeholders.

    ZTE announced that it has entered strategic partnerships with two well-known universities in the Philippines as it aims to cultivate young talents in the telecom industry under its program called the “Ultimate Service, Leading Ecosystem”.

    The global telecommunications giant has signed an agreement with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

    In a press release, ZTE said that this cooperation involved a wide range of programs including internships, faculty immersion, career consultancy and campus recruitment, online seminars and forums, training camps, a scholarship program and joint research exploration in emerging technology fields, among others.

    ZTE, together with Zong, Pakistan’s digital services front-runner, has commercially launched the dual-band FDD Massive MIMO in Zong’s existing 4G network, well satisfying the expansion requirements necessary for increasing 4G users and traffic.

    With ZTE’s FDD Massive MIMO solution, the deployment area’s 4G data traffic capacity has jumped by 21% while the average user throughput has increased by 40%, resulting in a 60% reduction in high-loaded cell counts.

    Zong has been leading the data market in Pakistan with its rapid growth in 4G users and data traffic. Total 4G data traffic in the year 2021 increased nine times over that of 2018, while the proportion of high-load cells increased from 3% to 17%. Therefore, Zong’s network effective solutions to meet its expanding network requirements.

    Zong is also a pioneer of exploring new technological solutions. It is known that FDD Massive MIMO is one of the key 5G technologies. It has now been successfully applied in the 4G network, bringing about great advantage. In September 2021, Zong together with ZTE successfully commercialized the first FDD Massive MIMO site in Peshawar. The FDD Massive MIMO has been operating well on 4G for both 1.8GHz and 2.1GHz dual bands, with the highest output power of 320W in the industry. In addition,, it has enabled the industry’s unique Smart Spatial Cell Groups (SSCG) technology, which realizes intelligent cell coverage adjustment based on user distribution, and improves cell capacity and spectrum efficiency.
