Ramen Cubism Launches Exclusive ‘Instagrammable’ Twin-Bowl Shio Ramen

In celebration of brand expansion of his trendsetting new ramen mecca RAMEN CUBISM in Central to his home town in Osaka, Japan’s ‘celebrity’ ramen champion Hayashi Takao is celebrating the phenomenal success story with a unique “twin-bowl” ramen concept in Hong Kong this July.

Soon to launch at RAMEN CUBISM on 2 July, The Eden Shio ramen collection is inspired by the phrase ‘The Forbidden Salt’.

In unique handcrafted ‘Figure of 8’ bowls, the master ramen is inviting fans to indulge in both hot and cold styles of a new specialty named The Eden Land (Hot) and The Eden Sea (Cold), currently a stellar dish sold at Chef Hayashi’s newly opened RAMEN PURISM in Osaka.

The novelty concept is additionally ‘instagrammable’ because lucky diners also have the opportunity to buy another rarity – his new aromatic Majimori-Style Hayashi Cup Noodles with secret spices, which sold-out in Japan within a month of launching the first batch of 100,000.  300 cups were put aside for Hong Kong, and are now reserved exclusively with customer with single spending of HK$300 – for an extra HK$25, with a limit of just two.

New snacks are also launch on the evening menu, featuring Hand-made Japanese Radish Pickle with Pomelo (HK$28), Sliced Pork Belly with Miso and Scallops (HK$38) and Hand-made Crispy Sweet Potato Ball (HK$38), serving daily from 5:30 pm.

Having attracted a cult following since opening in Hong Kong in January, RAMEN CUBISM is meanwhile fast-tracking expansion – opening a second branch brand RAMEN PURISM in Chef Hayashi’s home town of Osaka, to be followed by a sister Hong Kong branch in Tsim Sha Tsui in September.

“From the start, we envisioned Wellington Street as the flagship for an international brand, and the plan has already moved into top gear due to overwhelming popularity, with Macau and mainland China now on the radar,” said collaborating partner Eric Ting, CEO of Hong Kong’s Bird Kingdom Group, renowned for putting Lai Chi Kok’s D2 Place on the dining map.

To launch the opening campaign for RAMEN CUBISM’s expansion to Tsim Sha Tsui, ‘teaser’ tasting of the brand’s specialties is being promoted at Bird Kingdom’s D2 Place Japanese restaurant UMAI for a month from today to 18 July.  Featured ramen include the signature Premium Cubism (HK$118) and Sea Soy Soup (HK$88).

Merging vivid images of historic ramen masters and the two celebrity chefs with Japanese anime characters, the vibrant mural is inspired by parallels between the influential creativity of cubism art and minimalist simplicity of Japanese culture.

The cosy interior of RAMEN CUBISM features a predominant wood finish, invoking the sense of natural, fresh, and authentic ingredients sourced from environmentally-friendly places.  The authentic ambience is amplified by Japanese pottery specially commissioned for the chefs’ signature noodles marrying traditional cooking technology and innovative ideas – bringing a one of a kind ramen ‘comfort food’ experience to Hong Kong.

Eminently ‘instagrammable’ ramen creating the biggest buzz on social media are headlined by Premium Cubism – White Broth (HK$118 / Large), an extra-hearty larger option of a regular HK$88 version, especially renowned for Chef Hayashi’s signature slow-cooked pork belly and a half soft-boiled egg in a ‘secret recipe’ broth.

RAMEN CUBISM is in the basement of Yuen Yick Building, No. 27-29 Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong.

Opens from Sunday to Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Friday to Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight; payment are accepted by cash, Octopus, Alipay and WeChat Pay.

  • AirAsia prepares for budget long-haul flights

AirAsia prepares for budget long-haul flights

Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia launched the first of 66 new long-haul aircraft during the annual Paris Air Show on Monday, as it began to expand in Australia and could revive its Europe service to keep with the burgeoning market for budget long-haul flights.

The new Airbus A330-900 aircraft, showcased during the 2019 Paris International Air Show, is expected to take off on June 25 on the Bangkok-Brisbane (Australia) route via AirAsia’s long-haul affiliate, Thailand X.

AirAsia declined to provide a definite timetable for the other 65 to take flight, saying it depended on Airbus. It also remained cagey about the other planned routes. But AirAsia X Group CEO Nadda Buranasiri said they were eyeing more destinations to and from Bangkok and other parts of China.

With this purchase, AirAsia would become the first airline in Asia-Pacific to operate the A330-900: a wide-body 377-seater aircraft that could fly 12,000 miles over a 10 and a half-hour power range, said AirAsia X chair Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.

The planes boasted of comfort, with more legroom, larger cabin bag storage spaces and power sockets in every seat, she added.

“Our destination reach is not limited because of the capabilities of the plane,” she said. “We can strategize now about where we want to go beyond what we have right now.”

AirAsia was named the world’s best low-cost airline during this year’s Skytrax World Airlines Awards, the aviation industry’s Oscars, marking its record-breaking 11th win in a row.

The Malaysian airline has always wanted to expand its footprint, but it has only gone so far as Hawaii in the United States.

It earlier tried to operate in Europe via London, but the AirAsia chief said, “the fleet that we used to go to London, that was not the right plane. The cost factor killed us.”

“Maybe now seems like an opportunity for us to start again in London, but I cannot say that yet,” she said. “So perhaps this plane (A330-900) could give us an advantage. We have to look it up very carefully.”

  • Google adds new Maps features that offer some users rewards and perks

Google adds new Maps features that offer some users rewards and perks

Google has just announced a new set of features for business owners that will allow them to give Maps users an incentive to follow and, eventually, buy from them. Five years after launching Google My Business, which supposedly helped more than 150 million local business connect with people who are looking for them online, Google has decided to evolve it by adding new features and brand new design for mobile.

The most important changes are aimed at Maps users who will now be able to find a business much easier. For example, business owners can now claim a short name and URL for their business, and in the coming months, people will be able to search short names directly in Maps.

Moreover, starting today, businesses will be allowed to reward customers who follow their business on Google Maps with welcome offers, including discounts and other rewards. To make their businesses more appealing to potential customers, Google introduced the option to set the preferred profile cover photo.

Also, businesses will be able to add photo captions to their profiles, which will tell the stories behind the pictures. A new logo feature has been revealed as well, which will allow businesses that completed their core info to have their logo displayed at the top right-hand side of their profile.

Maps is one of the first apps that gets these new features for businesses, but Google might bring some of them to other apps or devices like Assistant and smart speakers, which would be in line with the company’s voice strategy.

  • Kia Seltos India Launch Details Out

Kia Seltos India Launch Details Out

Kia Motors India has unveiled the Seltos compact SUV and yes, we all are waiting for the company to launch the car. The Kia Seltos will be launched in India in August 2019. We still do not have a confirmation on the date but it will be in the second half of that month. The company has invested more than $2 billion in India and the Seltos is the first of many product offerings to come to the country. The Seltos will be exported to other markets too from India including Latin America, the Middle East and other parts of Asia, which shows how important a product it is for Kia Motors globally. It is also equipped with a host of segment-first features which should give it an edge in its segment.

The Kia Seltos enters a very crowded segment which has seen more players enter than ever before. Of course it has to deal with contenders like the Hyundai Creta, which has been the segment leader, but there are newer challengers to deal with too, the Tata Harrier and even the first connected compact SUV – the MG Hector.

But while the Seltos too is a connected car, there are a host of segment first features that it brings to the table. To begin with, it’s the first carmaker to make a car available in a dual trim option. It also gets a first in segment 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. Adding to the premiumness, is an 8-speaker sound system by Bose. Kia has also provided an air purifier which has been placed between the front two seats and provides for an AC vent for rear seat passengers. There’s a 360 degree surround camera added to the segment first list as well which provides for better visibility.

So, the Seltos becomes the second connected compact SUV after the MG Hector. Kia calls it UVO and you can, just like we’ve seen in the Venue, use your phone to operate the car’s ignition, AC controls and more. There’s also Apple Carplay and Android Auto on offer. That’s not the end of the segment first features yet, the Seltos SUV also gets an 8 inch heads up display which gives you all the information you need without being distracted. There’s also a sound mood lamp, rear sunshade curtain and a 7-inch colour TFT unit for the instrument console, which add to the premiumness of the Seltos.

With all these features expect the Seltos to be priced competitively and that’s because of the local content that it gets. The Seltos is expected to be priced between ₹ 11 lakh – ₹ 17 lakh when it’s launched, but we’ll know more about the car when we drive it and also at the launch.

  • Fossil to launch new Emporio Armani, Diesel and Michael Kors smartwatches

Fossil to launch new Emporio Armani, Diesel and Michael Kors smartwatches

Each year Fossil refreshes its stylish lineup of smartwatches with new models that feature updated hardware and, sometimes, different designs. This is year is no exception and a new set of Fossil wearable devices are expected to arrive as early as fall.

A fairly sizable number of unannounced Fossil smartwatches have been recently spotted at FCC, and their codenames have been deciphered by Droid-life as belonging to brands like Michael Kors, Emporio Armani, and Diesel. There’s also one Fossil-branded smartwatch among those listed at FCC, but there might be additional ones that haven’t popped up yet at the Federal Communications Commission.

Along with the listing of their codenames, we also have some pictures showing the Wear OS app drawer and settings, but aside from that, no exciting new info revealed in the documentation filed at FCC.

We’re not even sure whether or not these will be equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, which would be an upgrade from the current Fossil smartwatch. The good news is we’ll most likely learn more about Fossil’s upcoming smartwatches pretty soon now that they’ve been listed at FCC.

First off, the all-new Kindle Oasis includes Amazon’s best Paperwhite display. It has a 7-inch size, 300ppi and features a new color adjustable front light. The latter will allow users to adjust the color tone from cool to warm depending on the environment.

The third-generation Kindle Oasis features a thin and light design, especially created for one-handed use. The device includes dedicated page turn buttons, as well as the most recent e-ink technology to enable fast page turns.

Furthermore, the new e-reader is IPX8 rated to protect against immersion in up to two meters of water for up to 60 minutes. But it’s also been designed to withstand accidental drops.

Potential customers can pre-order the all new Kindle Oasis starting today for $250 for the 8GB, and $280 for the 32GB model. The ereader is available in two color options – Graphite and Champagne Gold, and will ship on July 24.

  • AirAsia Goes Big And Converts 253 A320neo Orders To A321neos

AirAsia Goes Big And Converts 253 A320neo Orders To A321neos

AirAsia bosses chose the second day of the 2019 Paris Air Show to announce that they are converting an order for 253 A320-200neos to the larger A321-200neo.

Malaysia’s largest low cost carrier, AirAsia Berhad, today decided to ramp up the type it has on order in response, a spokesperson said, to “ongoing strong demand across its network.” One of Asia’s largest budget airlines, AirAsia intends to convert 253 A320neo on order to A321neos. The move will make the AirAsia Group the world’s largest customer of the type.

AirAsia’s Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said in a statement, “We have spent a number of years reviewing what the future of our operations will look like and today, we’re proud to become the world’s largest customer for the A321neo.

The change will be applied to almost 90% of the Group’s current order of A320neos. Previously, the order was for 304 A320neos of which 37 had been delivered.

The Group says it expects deliveries of the A321neo in the latter part of this year. The first four aircraft of the new type will be brought into play with AirAsia and jointly-owned Thai AirAsia.

Following its up-sizing (and the purchase of its first A321neo at the start of 2019), AirAsia will become the world’s largest customer of Airbus’ New Engine Option jetliner.

The Malaysian LCC intends to use the A321neo on its high-frequency routes. It is believed the alteration will result in the augmentation of overall seat capacity by almost a third without adding flights to an already packed manifest, according to CAPA.

AirAsia currently has 230 A320 aircraft in service. The Group’s primary hub is at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The Group’s subsidiaries (of which there are eight) have hubs in various parts of the world including India, the Philippines and Japan.

The A321neo is a member of Airbus’s best-selling A320 family, the first of which was launched in 1984. In 2006 the type underwent extensive remodeling. Changes of the original design included measures intended to make the A320 more economically viable.

Sharklets, aerodynamic refinements and weight reduction made the plane 15% more fuel-efficient. Airbus hopes to capitalize on this with a further 5% rise in operating efficiency by 2020.

The family has since been further enhanced under the “neo” programme of changes.

The A321neo’s extra capacity is due to Airbus’s optimizing its use of the cabin space. The “cabin-flex” option allows the manufacturer the ability to produce a narrow-body jet with a capacity of 244 seats compared with the A320neo’s 150 to 180.

As reported by ch-aviation AirAsia’s Chairman Meranun said,

We have spent a number of years reviewing what the future of our operations will look like and today, we’re proud to become the world’s largest customer for the A321neo.

With its numerous efficiency benefits and the operational flexibility this aircraft brings, the A321neo will be the new backbone of our operations as we continue to expand to meet growing air travel demand across Asia.”

We previously reported that AirAsia’s sister company AirAsia X last year ordered 34 A330neo wide bodies ; an order it has yet to execute. Some industry insiders believe it may be the next type to be replaced with Airbus’s expansive narrow body neo.

  • Upcoming NVIDIA Shield TV to feature Google Stadia support

Upcoming NVIDIA Shield TV to feature Google Stadia support

News about NVIDIA working on a new Shield TV set-top box emerged over the weekend, but not many details on the device were mentioned at that time. We only learned that the Android TV box will include a more powerful processor and that it will run Android 9.0 Pie. NVIDIA’s plans that the upcoming Shield TV will be centered on Google’s Stadia service, which allows users to stream games on just about any device with a display.

On top of that, NVIDIA wants to release a new controller with the upcoming console and a more advanced remote. Also, the cheapest version of the console will come without the controller to allow those who ordered the Stadia controller to save some money when they buy the new NVIDIA Shield TV.

Embracing Google Stadia’s game streaming service is a bold move from NVIDIA, as the company will most likely see a decrease in market share for its own GeForce NOW cloud gaming service that aims to do the same thing for subscribers.

Finally, while we don’t have a price for the upcoming NVIDIA Shield TV, it appears that the new console is expected to be launched on the market by the end of this year, so there’s still time for NVIDIA to change its strategy for whatever reason.

UPS Enhances Asia Trade Connectivity As Region Looks Toward Growth

The series of service enhancements UPS  revealed today impact almost 1.4 million postal codes in 41 countries and territories across the Asia Pacific region, enabling worldwide connectivity for over 22 million businesses.

“At the root of the investments in our Smart Logistics Network is a simple desire to make global commerce easier for Asian businesses—because when they grow, we grow too,” said Ross McCullough, President, UPS Asia Pacific Region. “More UPS customers in the region will now be able to have their shipments sent and received in less time; they’ll be able to find us easily in more cities and towns, and they’ll be able to send shipments later in the day than before—all of which will open new opportunities for businesses in the region to trade more efficiently with the rest of the world.”

In the first half of 2019, UPS completed the following as part of its strategy to bolster economic development in the region, which is projected to account for 63 percent of global GDP growth in 2019[1]:

    • Shenzhen Asia Pacific Air Hub upgrades increase the hub’s processing capacity by nearly 50 percent in preparation for volume gains in the coming three years.
    • Transit times reduced across 2,300 trade lanes: Intercontinental transit times reduced by up to 4 days, while shipments with destinations in Asia see transit times improved by up to 2 days.
    • Improved the geographic reach of UPS Worldwide Express®services, offering international shipping with time-definite deliveries in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea; Customers in Xi An, China and new provinces in Vietnam can now access UPS Worldwide Express Freight, a guaranteed door-to-door service for palletized shipments over 70kg.
    • Extended pick-up times by up to five hours for export shipments from China, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea, widening production windows and giving businesses additional time to fulfil customer orders.
    • Strengthened supply chain flexibility with Saturday pick-up services in the U.S. enabling import shipments destined for eight markets in Asia to be delivered one day earlier than before.

“We’re seeing new realities in this region that demand not only inventive solutions, but also higher levels of service,” said Wilfredo Ramos, Vice President of Strategy, UPS Asia Pacific Region. “Businesses have come to rely on UPS’s extensive experience to help them navigate the volatile highways of trade today. Together with our brokerage capabilities, upgrades like the one at our Shenzhen Hub will give UPS the flexibility to support increases in intra-Asia trade volumes in the coming years.”

UPS’s Shenzhen Hub serves as a transfer point for shipments moving within the region, and the enhancements improve both reliability and quality of service provided to UPS customers in Asia. About 550 employees maintain round-the-clock operations at the hub, which houses separate sorting and handling facilities for express and cargo shipments, on-site customs office and processing – including China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ) clearance for import commodities – and a dedicated 150,000 square meter ramp with 13 aircraft parking positions. Self-operated aircraft ground-handling provides UPS, as a logistics integrator, with greater control over the 86 weekly UPS flights in and out from the hub.

UPS has operated in the Asia Pacific region since 1988, and has grown to service 41 countries and territories in the region over the past 30 years. In 2018, the company implemented the largest expansion of the UPS My Choice service since its launch, offering users enhanced visibility in 96 new countries and territories, including Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam in Asia Pacific.
