Permanent Pokemon Center opens at Nihonbashi Takashimaya Tokyo

Japanese fans can step into a whole world of Pokemon in a new experiential store in Tokyo.

The Pokemon Center brings the game franchise to life with a range of Pokemon merchandise on sale. This is the Japanese franchise’s third Pokemon Center, and by far its largest with 1300sqm of floor space. It is also the first to include a cafe, which offers a range of foods including themed curries and pancakes in the shape of the Pokemon character Pikachu.

Located inside the Nihonbashi Takashimaya Department store, it serves as another example of how traditional department stores are embracing new experiential concepts to make up for declining sales in traditional categories.

The store opened yesterday and a special promotion will run until April 22 offering shoppers giveaways, including assets to use in the smartphone-based Pokemon game.

Merchandise on sale at the Pokemon Center include soft toys and accessories.

Earlier stores are in Sapporo, which was recently upgraded, and at the Tokyo Skytree complex, which opened in July 2016.

  • 8 best citie to live on this side of the world

8 best citie to live on this side of the world

Time Out’s City Life Index, a survey of 15,000 people in 32 global cities, has been released, and it shows which ones promise the most fun and excitement in 2018. Eight of them are on this side of the world.

The survey, conducted by Tapestry Research, questioned residents on a variety of aspects of city life.

It ranked cities in categories across food, drink, culture, friendliness, affordability, happiness, and liveability.

It also “found the key factors that make residents find their city exciting,” from dining out often to feeling proud of where they are from.

Here, their ranking in ascending order along with their overall scores:

    31. Singapore (98.7) — Those from Singapore may not rate its culture scene highly, but they do value the city’s safety and are perfectly comfortable walking around at night.

    28. Sydney (106.1) — While they may think the city is lacking in things to do and good restaurants, Sydney residents live a healthy life, with 66% having exercised in the past week and 38% never having taken drugs. They know how to party, though, and are the world’s No. 1 vodka drinkers.

    26. Hong Kong (109.6) — Seventy-five percent of residents said the public transport in Hong Kong was great, contributing to the city’s overall score. They’re also among the biggest restaurant-goers in the world.

    24. Bangkok (111.0) — The survey revealed Bangkok as the world’s street-food capital, with more people eating on their feet than anywhere else — 42 times a year, on average. They’re also the biggest restaurant-goers, with 94% of respondents having visited a restaurant in the past week.

    22. Beijing (113.0) — The city may be exciting, but the commute is long, with 6% of Beijing residents even commuting for two to three hours a day.

    19. Tokyo (117.7) — Tokyo residents love their food — they visit restaurants more than most other cities on the list.

    16. Shanghai (119.5) — It may not come cheap, but there’s plenty to do in Shanghai, where residents say that while it is tough to find love, 79% believe it is easy to find a more casual encounter.

    4. Melbourne (132.3) — This Australian city came out above all others in terms of happiness, with nine in 10 residents saying they felt happy within the past 24 hours. They also find it easy to make friends and think the food-and-drink scene is one of the city’s best features.

  • Mori Building and teamLab to launch “MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM teamLab Borderless” in Odaiba, Tokyo this summer

Mori Building and teamLab to launch “MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM teamLab Borderless” in Odaiba, Tokyo this summer

Mori Building, a leading urban developer in Tokyo, and the art collective teamLab today announced that they will jointly open “MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM teamLab Borderless,” a full-scale digital art museum in the Palette Town complex of Odaiba, Tokyo in the summer of 2018. The all-new museum concept is a collaborative initiative between Mori Building, a noted supporter of culture and art, and teamLab, an interdisciplinary creative group that utilizes the digital technologies to express art.

The museum, teamLab’s first permanent exhibition and flagship facility in Tokyo, will boast a massive 10,000 square meters of labyrinthine floor space. The word “Borderless” expresses the museum’s aim to tear down the borders between “one art and another,” “art and visitors” and “oneself and others” by allowing visitors to melt into the art and become part of it. Mori Building and teamLab hope that their groundbreaking museum will inspire people to create enlightened new values and innovative new social frameworks.

Mori Building actively works to integrate art in cities, including by staging important cultural activities. In the view of the company, cities vitally need culture and art to expand their magnetic power to attract creative people and enterprises from throughout the world.

teamLab aims to explore a new relationship between humans and the world through art. The collective’s collaborative practice seeks to liberate art from physical constrictions and transcend boundaries in contemporary society, where the border between technologies and creativity is coming fuzzy.

Through their collaboration, Mori Building and teamLab aim to create a unique destination that enhances the magnetic power of Tokyo toward 2020 and beyond.

The moves included the transportation of 45 yachts in one consignment, as well as the safe delivery of two oversized barges and three tugs.

“We see much potential in the floating unit market. Our very adaptable heavy lift ships and engineering know-how ensures we are able to meet our customers’ bespoke requirements globally, no matter the challenges,” said Emek Ersin Takmaz, Head of Projects, Engineering Department, HANSA HEAVY LIFT.

The consignment of 45 yachts was recorded as the largest number of yachts shipped on a single vessel for Peters & May, and took place aboard HHL New York, with the journeys originating in the USA and the Caribbean and concluding in the UK and Germany, coordinated by bespoke logistics provider Peters & May.

HANSA HEAVY LIFT crews worked with Peters & May’s expert loadmasters to load the yachts with their masts up at Port Everglades in Florida, USA, St Thomas, and Antigua, and delivered them to the ports of Southampton, UK, and Bremerhaven, Germany.

“Working with a trusted partner, such as HANSA HEAVY LIFT on key projects such as this, means all stages of the operation – from planning to execution – are flawlessly executed. Both teams’ high attention to detail allowed us to provide the optimum service our clients expect. We look forward to working with HANSA HEAVY LIFT on exciting projects in the future,” said Simon Judson, Global Operations Director, Peters & May Group.

“This project was a race against time, which required us to find an efficient and cost-effective solution to be able to lift the tugs and transport them safely on our vessel,” said Takmaz.

“Tailor-made steel structures were designed and suitable lifting solutions developed for each tug by our in-house engineers.”

  • Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN.’ pop-up travels to Asia

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN.’ pop-up travels to Asia

After hitting 17 cities across North America, Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN. pop-up tour heads to Asia. First stop: Tokyo, Japan, at monkey time‘s flagship store in Harajuku.

Monkey time’s clean neutral interior was filled with vibrantly-hued DAMN. merch pieces such as lime green and yellow T-shirts, burgundy hoodies, and a range of streetwear staples in essential black, white and grey colorways.

The product designer Jide Osifeso joined the opening of the pop-up  and shared bit more about the DAMN. collection.

The DAMN. Tokyo pop-up took place at monkey time’s Harajuku location from 18 TO 19 November 2017, and it will travel to monkey time’s Osaka store on 26 November  2017.

The product designer explained how this pop-up is aimed to bring the damn stuff to the fans who were not able to see the shows, especially people in Asia with the first one being in Tokyo. The pop-up will travel to Korea next and China afterwards.

The graphics are all inspired by the music. The album has so many layers and textures.

It is easy to draw inspiration from Kendrick and there is so much depth to everything he does.  What the merch was going to look like and how it would be represented is the result of a close collaboration. It is an easy process when you have the kind of music that Kendrick makes.

Jide Osifeso’s favourite piece is the “Pray For Me” t-shirt, more specifically,  the “Nobody Pray For Me” verbiage throughout the album and how it was done.

“At the live show”, Jide explains, “it really translates because there’s this echo of different people saying “Nobody Pray For Me” between two songs in the set. That’s just really gripping and amazing”.

  • Valentino Is Opening Sport-Themed Pop-Up Shops Around The World

Valentino Is Opening Sport-Themed Pop-Up Shops Around The World

Athleisure cannot stop, will not stop, and probably will never, ever stop, the proof is on the runway.

More specifically the Valentino Resort 2018 runway, which saw a parade of athletic-inspired looks featuring everything from silk tracksuits to fuzzy slides to cheerleader-inspired midiskirts.

Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Resort 2018 collection puts a luxurious spin on streetwear and the combination does not feel forced.

The show, which took place in New York’s Bond Street, drew inspiration from one of the best American exports – hip hop.

Sporty zip-up hoodies and tracksuits were given a Valentino touch, with the brand’s signature midi-dress silhouette with pleated details.

Embroidered varsity jackets were paired with feminine calf-length skirts.

Piccioli worked with graphic designer Zandra Rhodes again on special prints for dresses and jackets in the resort collection.

Models carried micro versions of Valentino’s iconic “Matelasse” bags as clutches. We also love the heart-shaped novelty bags with iconic Rockstud straps.

The collection also elevated flip-flops to runway chic, applying duo-tone fur trims on the thongs of the flip flops for a luxury touch.

The show was attended by celebrities the likes of Olivia Palermo, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Marisa Tomei.

Needless to say, the collection was a must-see. And now, lucky for us, here’s our chance to finally buy.

In a series of pop-up shops in Tokyo, New York, and Hong Kong, Valentino fans will be able to shop the resort 2018 collection  in retail spaces designed to resemble gyms. But, like, chic gyms.

A release for the new pop-ups even mentions “imaginary metropolitan basketball nets.”

Aside from the gymnasium aesthetics, expect to be able to shop the resort collection plus more.

Limited-edition items such as basketballs, yoga mats, and sneakers round out the sport-themed aesthetic.

  • Kith Treats arrives in Tokyo

    Kith Treats arrives in Tokyo

This week, founder/designer Ronnie Fieg opened the doors to Tokyo’s very first Kith Treats located in the world-famous shopping district of Shibuya.

Fieg teased the newest location on Instagram earlier this month by sharing a sketch of the shop’s exterior with caption, “Kith Treats Tokyo. See you soon.”

The new space upholds the clean, monochromatic aesthetic of the original Kith Treats in Brooklyn.

Carrara marble panels and stainless steel millwork dominate the inside, while the storefront features stainless steel tiles—a contemporary take on the classic ice cream parlor floors—and a large metal gate with a graphic of pouring milk.
“Kith Treats is a childhood dream of mine. It’s a space where we’re able to relive our youth over again,” Fieg told Hypebeast in 2015. “[…]

I’ve always believed that the footwear/apparel/retail business would act as a stepping stone for me. I’m looking for Kith Treats to evolve into many things in the future.

Our Specials menu is comprised of artists and athletes that are personally close to me because I honestly just wanted to know their favorite cereal—because that’s how I judge people.

In addition to the original Brooklyn bar, Kith Treats is also located in Manhattan and Miami. Each shop offers an extensive menu of cereal-based treats, like cereal ice cream swirls and cereal milkshakes.

Many Fans came early to queue to get their Treats.

    Kith Treats Tokyo is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. at 1-19- 14 Jinnan, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
