  • Google Maps bug prevents useful feature from working perfectly

Google Maps bug prevents useful feature from working perfectly

Google Maps has a location-sharing feature that allows you to share your location with others. Users can set a time limit that shuts down this peek at your current location after the set time period has been reached. Or, the user can decide to keep this information available by choosing the setting that shares the current location “Until I turn it off.”

However, it appears that there is a problem, and some Google Maps users on the app’s support page are complaining that they are no longer able to select the “Until I turn it off” option. This bug is preventing Google Maps users from allowing someone to continue to monitor their current location until they turn off the location sharing feature.

A member of the Google Maps support page, Loes Frank, wrote, “Hi! I am sharing my location for a long time with my parents and brother. Always ‘until I turn it off’ instead of a limited time. For a while I shared my location with my boyfriend without a time limit but it suddenly doesn’t work anymore.”

Loes continues, “I am still sharing my location with my family without a time limit but with my boyfriend it’s impossible. Also with new people, it’s impossible. How can I fix this?” In other words, she complains that the option to keep sharing her location until she’s done is still showing up on her phone, but it is not working when she presses on it.

A Google Platinum Product Expert tried to blame the problem on Loes’ lack of verification which he says prevents Google from knowing her age which blocks her from using “features like enabling location history and browsing your Google Timeline. These features are only available for users whose accounts have been verified to meet the minimum age requirements.”

But the expert was quickly proven wrong when another Google Maps user wrote, “This is happening for me too, no option to verify the account so it’s already verified. On other family members’ phones they can still see the option saying ‘until you turn it off.’ Any ideas, Google?”

And another post in the Google Maps support page says, “My fiancés’ phone has been sharing locations with me for years and it stays on, on my phone, but every day his location sharing is set to ‘until I turn it off.’ When he gets near his own home maps, location disconnects yet he can see mine when neither one of us touched it.” The location-sharing feature is a handy tool for those who would like to be tracked as they travel just in case a situation arises where they need help.

Every person complaining about this issue says that Google Maps runs perfectly on their device with the location sharing issue the only problem that they are having with the navigation and mapping app. The problem started earlier this month and this timing has led some to believe that the bug was introduced via a recent software update. Whatever the cause of this issue, it seems to prevent the ‘until I turn it off’ option from working with certain contacts.

Google continues to work on Maps as it continues the evolution of the app which started as an application tasked with getting users from point “A” to point “B” safely, and in the fastest possible time. Besides additions to the navigation part of the app that warn you of delays, accidents, speed traps, tolls, and speed limits, Google Maps now helps you find places to eat, places to see, hotels where you can stay and famous landmarks to visit once you get to “B.”

  • Microsoft Joins Google, Amazon, Others In Canceling In-Person Presence At CES

Microsoft Joins Google, Amazon, Others In Canceling In-Person Presence At CES

Microsoft Corp said on Friday it will not participate in person at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas, joining a list of companies opting not to have a physical presence at next month’s event on concerns over the rapid spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

The U.S. software giant added that it will continue to participate at CES remotely, according to an emailed statement. The Verge was the first to report on Friday that Microsoft will not participate physically AT CES.

Several other companies including U.S. automaker General Motors Co, Alphabet Inc.’s Google, and its self-driving auto-technology company Waymo, Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc, Twitter Inc, Lenovo Group, AT&T Inc, and Amazon.com Inc dropped in-person attendance plans earlier this week.

CES officials on Thursday said the event will still be held in person Jan. 5-8 with “strong safety measures in place,” which include vaccination requirements, masking and availability of COVID-19 tests.

  • Which Cryptocurrencies Are Best for Gambling Online in Singapore?

Which Cryptocurrencies Are Best for Gambling Online in Singapore?

Online casinos have swept through the world like a storm, and Singapore has been no exception. The state has seen a huge influx of online casino sites in recent years, and many of them come with brand-new and exciting features. Even though officially online gambling is banned in Singapore, offshore casinos offer their services to players from the state.

The best Singapore online betting sites offer plenty of bonuses and promotions, thousands of games, and safe and secure payment methods. While many players ignore the importance of fast payment options, they’re vital for a proper online gambling experience. In recent times, more and more casinos have been jumping on the crypto hype train. And rightfully so. Cryptocurrencies are fast and very easy to use, and considering the number of people that own cryptos in Singapore, it’s no wonder why they’re so popular in casinos.

    Why Are Cryptocurrencies So Popular?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve surely heard about Bitcoin and Ethereum. The two biggest names on the cryptocurrency market, both have soared to incredible heights in 2021. By many accounts, Bitcoin is just as worth, if not more than gold.  This is a big win for cryptocurrencies after the 2017 bubble burst that all but made them obsolete. With financial instability and inflation rampaging traditional markets, people are looking for promising assets to invest in.

The price of cryptocurrencies is much more volatile than gold or crude oil. That’s a big problem for governments and financial organizations, yet it doesn’t faze investors around the world. Everyone’s willing to invest in Bitcoin instead of trading stocks or investing in bonds or gold. Even people who have never invested money in anything before are pouring money into cryptos now. Bitcoin has infiltrated nearly any aspect of our lives, including gaming online.

Online casinos have been looking for reliable payment methods with fast transactions for a while. E-wallets were and still are a great option, but they can’t compete with the speed Bitcoin offers. Deposits made with cryptos in online casinos are instant, and so are withdrawals for the most part. Fees are almost non-existent. The blockchain is a piece of technology that’s perfect suitable for the online gambling market, offering fast and safe transactions.

Cryptocurrencies are not just another payment method in online casinos. They aim to completely revolutionize the market, and so they will in the future. If you’re looking for the best cryptos to play in online casinos, check our list below.

    Bitcoin

The world’s leading cryptocurrency by market volume and popularity, Bitcoin is the most commonly used crypto. It’s available across all crypto casinos and can easily be bought on legit exchanges such as Binance. Its price is 10 times higher than the second cryptos on the list, Ethereum. Bitcoin is the world’s first cryptocurrency that started the trend. It offers fast deposits and withdrawals and a price over $50,000, which no other crypto will reach anytime soon.

Of course, the main problem is that it’s highly volatile, but that’s the trade off for the price. Still, it remains a highly popular payment option in online casinos, and that won’t stop anytime soon.

    Ethereum

Ethereum was first thought of as a Bitcoin killer, but it never really became that. That wasn’t its purpose at all. By ‘fixing’ some of the original Bitcoin mistakes and adding features such as smart contracts, it’s in a league of its own. Currently the second-most valuable cryptocurrency in the world, it’s a very popular crypto to use at the best online casinos in Singapore.

It’s fast, can be used with ease, and most importantly, many altcoins are built on an ETH network.  The gas (transaction) fees are a bit higher than expected, but if you own a lot of Ether, that shouldn’t be a problem.

    Litecoin

Another coin that exceeded all expectations, Litecoin is a very popular crypto in Singapore casino sites. Most sites will accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin deposits all in tow, so you’re welcome to use the one you want. The great news is that just like the others, Litecoin is a fantastic option for online casinos.

It allows instantaneous deposits and withdrawals for much lower fees when compared to Ethereum. If you invested in it years ago, you’re probably reaping the benefits of Litecoin’s record price now.

    Ripple

Ripple is a cryptocurrency, but also a stablecoin. Stablecoin’s have a 1:1 price ratio with USD, so it’s always worth $1 (with small variations). This is the best crypto to use in Singapore online casinos if you want to use cryptos, but are afraid of the volatility. You can buy XRP for dollar a coin, and connect your wallet to the casino for fast deposits and withdrawals.

All on the blockchain, of course, so you won’t have to worry about the security.

  • AirAsia sets best performance

    AirAsia sets best performance

Airasia Philippines has recorded its best performance yet since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, its officials said yesterday.

Topping the list of AirAsia’s most preferred domestic flights within the peak Christmas travel period between December 20 to January 05 are Manila to Caticlan with 24 percent of total passenger booking, Manila to Tacloban with 15 percent, and Cebu to Manila with 14 percent.

The recently resumed Hong Kong to Manila route, meanwhile tops the list of the airline’s current international flights.

“We believe that it is important we enable our kababayans to travel to see their loved ones this holiday period to help boost their morale and make their Christmas celebrations even more special after almost two years of battling and living in a global health crisis. We look forward to increasing our flight frequencies and broadening our destinations as the situation improves. But for now, we are thankful to be among the preferred airlines of Filipino travelers,” AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson Steve Dailisan said.

Dailisan said the significant rise in flight bookings is attributed not only to the relaxing of protocols but also to the longing of Filipinos to be with their families this Christmas season — some of whom have not seen each other for almost two years

He said they continue to by strict safety protocols mandated by the government and as advised by medical experts

“Guests are asked to follow implemented stringent safety measures on ground and in flight, such as physical distancing and the wearing of face masks,” Dailisan said.

  • Phishing attacks are deceiving Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp users

Phishing attacks are deceiving Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp users

In an attempt to stop ongoing phishing attacks, Meta, formerly known as Facebook, filed a federal lawsuit in California court. Meta says that the attackers were trying to steal the login credentials of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp users.

The attackers created fake login pages that looked like Meta’s social media platforms to obtain Meta’s users’ login credentials. The goal was to deceive the users into entering their credentials, like usernames and passwords.

Here’s what Jessica Romero, Meta’s director of platform and litigation, said about the phishing scheme: “Reports of phishing attacks have been on the rise across the industry, and we are taking this action to uncover the identities of the people behind the attack and stop their harmful conduct.”

According to Meta’s lawsuit blog post, the phishing scam included more than 39,000 fake websites. In order to mask their attack, the deceivers used a relay service that redirected the internet traffic to their phishing pages while simultaneously concealing their real location and identities. The relay service also masked the online hosting providers of the defendants.

In a statement about the case, Meta noted that phishing assaults have increased since March and that Meta has suspended thousands of URLs to such phishing sites. Although Meta doesn’t know who made the phishing sites, the lawsuit, according to Meta, is another step in its actions to protect people’s safety and privacy. The filed lawsuit by Meta shows the position of the company against those trying to abuse its platforms.

In its blog post about the lawsuit, Meta stated that it would continue to fight the phishing attacks that try to deceive its customers and that it shares the phishing sites with other platforms so that they can block the attackers as well.

  • Vietravel sells majority stake in airline

Vietravel sells majority stake in airline

Tourism company Vietravel has sold a 55.58 percent stake in Vietravel Airlines to an unspecified investor as it seeks more funding amid Covid financial pressures.

“Vietravel is no longer the parent company of Vietravel Airlines,” it stated recently.

In a filing last month, Vietravel revealed it held a 99.5 percent stake in the carrier.

Chairman of the leading tourism firm Nguyen Quoc Ky said in early May that selling a stake in Vietravel Airlines was part of a plan to restructure Vietravel into a holding company.

He called for investors to fund the airline.

As the airline only began to operate this year, it is still recording losses, which could affect Vietravel’s business figures, which are also low due to Covid-19, the company stated.

Vietravel posted a loss of VND293.3 billion ($12.78 million) in the first half this year, tripling year-on-year.

Its stock is limited to trading on Fridays due to its delay in publishing results.

  • Chuk Chuk speeds up expansion plans with Central Retail

Chuk Chuk speeds up expansion plans with Central Retail

Kido Group-owned gelato and tea chain, Chuk Chuk, has joined hands with Central Retail to roll out between 300 and 400 stores in Go! malls and Tops Market supermarkets in Vietnam, as well as eyeing international expansion.

Chuk Chuk said it will open 10 stores across Central Retail’s shopping malls ahead of February. Under the partnership, the chain plans to expand its presence into Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries in the coming years.

The brand currently operates 10 brick-and-mortar stores across Ho Chi Minh City, with 40 stores scheduled to launch this month. Kido Group is to increase its store number to 1000 in the country by 2025 while expanding into international markets, including Thailand, China, and South Korea.

The partnership with Central Retail follows Chuk Chuk’s recent agreement with Son Kim Retail, under which its products will be sold across all GS25 locations in the country by the end of next year.

Founded last June, amid the Delta lockdown, Chuk Chuk marks Kido Group’s foray into the retail industry, directly competing with major local F&B players such as Starbucks, Trung Nguyen Legend and Phuc Long. The brand name was inspired by Thailand’s famous vehicle Tuk Tuk.

  • Vietnam Airlines scores $1 bln discount on jet lease

Vietnam Airlines scores $1 bln discount on jet lease

Vietnam Airlines and Air Lease Corporation have agreed on a leasing discount exceeding $1 billion for 18 aircraft while the former face financial challenges amid the pandemic.

U.S.-based ALC, one of the biggest aircraft leasers in the world with 450 jets, will reduce leasing charges by $420 million for the rest of the contract duration of existing jets while the remaining $600 million will be discounted on new leases.

Vietnam Airlines is leasing 16 jets from ALC, comprising 12 narrow-body A321 Neo and four wide-body Boeing B787-10.

With the biggest fleet in Vietnam of over 100 jets, the national flag carrier is facing financial pressure in retaining its aircraft, with many routes suspended due to Covid-19.

Restructuring its fleet and cutting costs are its main goals to overcome the Covid-19 crisis, the airline stated.

CEO of the carrier Le Hong Ha said Tuesday the airline would have an oversupply of jets until 2025, and plans to sell 27 over the next two years.

  • Google threatens to fire employees who refuse to get vaccinated

Google threatens to fire employees who refuse to get vaccinated

Almost two years have passed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, but that does not mean that things have cooled off. That is why companies, including those in the tech industry, are still practicing the work-from-home approach when it comes to their employees.

It seems, though, that some of the major players in the game, such as Google, are starting to tighten their grip over the rules revolving around the pandemic. A report on an internal Google memo reveals the tech giant telling its employees they could get fired if they don’t follow the company’s COVID-19 vaccination rules.

Exceptions would be made for those with a granted special exemption based on medical or religious reasons. Each exemption would be approved on a case-by-case basis. Based on what the report says, Googlers (the way Google refers to its employees) had up until the 3rd of December to present their vaccination status.

In the case of denied exemption and no uploaded proof of their vaccination on the internal systems, Google would then start contacting those employees. January 18th, 2022, would then be the final date until which a Googler would have to comply with the vaccination rules. If not, they would then be put on “paid administrative leave” for the next month.

Further refusal to comply with the rules would result in “unpaid personal leave,” which could last up to six months. For the initial 92 days, said employees would still have access to their work benefits. However, if the six months passed and their vaccination status remained the same, the result would be them getting dismissed from Google.

“We expect that almost all roles at Google in the US will fall within the scope of the executive order. Anyone entering a Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved accommodation that allows them to work or come onsite. Frequent testing is not a valid alternative to vaccination.”

As one might guess, not all Googlers agree with this mandate. A few hundred of them have written a manifesto in opposition to the vaccine rules and requirements and signed it. As a reply to this, Google has suggested that the employees look at different roles at the company, which wouldn’t conflict with the executive order.

  • Vietnam Airlines to sell 27 planes

Vietnam Airlines to sell 27 planes

Vietnam Airlines plans to sell 15 planes this month and 12 others in the next two years, its CEO said.

“Vietnam Airlines plans to sell nine A321s and six ATR-72s in December. From 2022 to late 2023, an additional 12 A321s will be sold,” CEO Le Hong Ha told the extraordinary general meeting of shareholders Tuesday.

The plan is aimed at reducing the number of aircraft Vietnam currently owns and accelerating its fleet modernization, replacing planes aged over 12 years, he explained, predicting that there would still be an aircraft surplus by 2025.

Vietnam Airlines is estimated to have an excess of eight wide-body planes and 22 narrow-body equivalents next year. It currently has 106 aircraft, including 29 wide-body planes, and seven ATR-72s. It has sold two A321s in the last five months.

With the civil aviation industry hard hit by Covid-19, Vietnam Airlines has removed seats from eight wide-body passenger planes and seven A321s to use as cargo- aircraft.

The national flag carrier recorded a net loss of over VND3.5 trillion ($154.3 million) in the third quarter, a decrease compared to the first two quarters.

As of September, the airlines’ total assets were valued at more than VND67 trillion, up more than VND4.5 trillion over the beginning of the year.

Vietnam’s domestic aviation market in 2022 will be 70-75 percent of that in 2019, before the pandemic’s onset, and fully recover in 2023, he predicted.

  • WhatsApp is crashing on iOS

    WhatsApp is crashing on iOS

Several tweets on Twitter today were about issues that some iPhone users were having with the WhatsApp app. Those suffering from this bug just could not open the messaging app on their iOS-powered handset as it would crash immediately after the icon was tapped on their iPhone home screen. With no recent WhatsApp updates to speak of, and with the beta version of the app crashing on Test Flight, the problem could be Facebook’s fault (the company is the parent of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger).

While some users made a connection between the bug and yesterday’s release of iOS 15.2, WhatsApp has been having problems with previous iOS versions putting the kibosh to that theory. Regardless of what is causing it to crash on iOS, WhatsApp hasn’t even made a public statement of any kind regarding the app’s inability to stay open for iPhone users. The bug is affecting both the regular version of WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business.

With end-to-end encryption maintaining your privacy, WhatsApp sends texts through your phone’s internet connection similar to how Apple’s iMessages and Google’s Rich Communication Service (RCS) works. The ability to send larger video files and messages, support for large group chats, Read Receipts, and more features have made WhatsApp the most popular messaging app in over 100 countries. The app has been installed over 5 billion times.

While Facebook doesn’t break out financials by individual apps, “experts” believe that WhatsApp helped generate between $5 billion and $10 billion in revenue for Facebook last year. It is estimated that the app has 2.3 billion daily active users (DAU), second behind parent Facebook’s 2.9 billion daily active users. As of this past July, the number of Monthly Active Users on WhatsApp was calculated at 2 billion.

If you’ve been experiencing these same problems with WhatsApp on your iPhone, let us know by dropping your comment in the comment box below.

  • Elon Musk Named Time’s 2021 ‘Person Of The Year’

Elon Musk Named Time’s 2021 ‘Person Of The Year’

Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk was named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” for 2021, a year that saw his electric car company become the most valuable carmaker in the world and his rocket company soar to the edge of space with an all-civilian crew. Musk is also the founder and CEO of SpaceX, and leads brain-chip startup Neuralink and infrastructure firm The Boring Company. Tesla’s market value soared to more than $1 trillion this year, making it more valuable than Ford Motor and General Motors combined.

Tesla produces hundreds of thousands of cars every year and has managed to avert supply chain issues better than many of its rivals while pushing many young consumers to switch to electric cars and legacy automakers to shift focus to EV vehicles.

In 2021, Tesla’s market value soared to more than $1 trillion this year, making it more valuable than Ford Motor and General Motors combined.

“For creating solutions to an existential crisis, for embodying the possibilities and the perils of the age of tech titans, for driving society’s most daring and disruptive transformations, Elon Musk is TIME’s 2021 Person of the Year,” the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Edward Felsenthal, said.

“Even Elon Musk’s spacefaring adventures are a direct line from the very first Person of the Year, Charles Lindbergh, whom the editors selected in 1927 to commemorate his historic first solo transatlantic airplane flight over the Atlantic.”

From hosting Saturday Night Live to dropping tweets on cryptocurrencies and meme stocks that have triggered massive movements in their value, Musk has dominated the headlines and amassed over 66 million followers on Twitter. Some of his tweets have also attracted regulatory scrutiny in the past.

According to the magazine, “The Person of the Year” signifies somebody “who affected the news or our lives the most, for better, or worse.”

Time magazine named the teenage pop singer Olivia Rodrigo as its “Entertainer of the Year”, American gymnast Simone Biles “Athlete of the Year” and vaccine scientists were named “Heroes of the Year”.

Last year, U.S. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were jointly given the “Person of the Year” title. Time began this tradition in 1927. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos have also received the title in the past.

  • Moleskine opens its first retail store in SEA

Moleskine opens its first retail store in SEA

It’s been a big year for Brioni. The fashion house has marked its 65th year by collaborating with us on our ’Wallpaper* Handmade… in Italy’ exhibition, opening several new stores and – of course – throwing a large party. And now it is celebrating the milestone with a commemorative Moleskine notebook, which it’s giving to friends of the brand, illustrated by the whimsical hand of the artist, Carlo Stanga.

Eschewing fashion’s customary glossy images, Stanga has created a series of playful and informal vignettes depicting the tailoring brand’s history and identity. On one page, a team of tiny characters spills from the pockets of a giant suit jacket as they carry out its finishing touches. And on another, there are a series of Brioni-clad Oscars, with a caption that reads: ’Brioni conquers Hollywood.’

’We were attracted to Carlo’s work by his fresh and modern stroke,’ says Brioni. The brand has a large archive of illustrations. From its inception in 1945, up until the 1970s, it collaborated with artist, Luigi Tarquini. ’We feel that illustration is a warmer art form than photography,’ the fashion house explains.

Next up for Brioni is the opening of its new stores in China and Düsseldorf, plus September will see its first fashion show with Alessandro Dell’Acqua at the creative team’s helm.
