Cebu Pacific to launch flights Between Clark, Philippines and Narita

Cebu Pacific has unveiled plans to launch flights from its rapidly growing hub in Clark, Philippines to Narita Airport.

The airline will operate four flights per week between Clark and Narita on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, beginning Aug 9.

Cebu Pacific will also begin direct flights between its hubs in Clark and Iloilo; as well as between Clark and Bacolod on Aug 9; as well as daily flights between Clark and Puerto Princesa in Palawan by Oct 9 October 2019.

The four new routes will boost Cebu Pacific’s total capacity in Clark by 40% in 2019 alone, following a 75% increase in 2018 with the launch of direct flights to and from Davao and Panglao (Bohol); as well as additional frequency for the Clark-Macau route.

“There is so much untapped potential in Clark, and we are committed to expanding our Clark hub to expand tourism, trade and investment opportunities. This will open up the areas around Clark to more investors and entrepreneurs,” said Candice Iyog, Vice President for Marketing and Distribution of Cebu Pacific.

With a population of over 23 million in its catchment area, Clark International Airport is one of Asia’s fastest-growing airports, with passenger volume reaching about 2.5 Million in 2018.

Cebu Pacific has been operating flights in and out of Clark since 2006 and today has direct flights to Cebu, Caticlan, Tagbilaran, Davao, Singapore, Macau and Hong Kong.

“With direct air service between Clark and Narita, it will be easier for Japanese tourists to access destinations in Pampanga, Pangasinan, Baguio, La Union and the rest of Luzon. Conversely, it will also be easier for residents in these areas to enjoy Tokyo, with a direct flight from Clark,” added Candice Iyog.

Japan is one of the Philippines’ top sources of inbound tourists, with 631,801 Japanese visiting the country in 2018.

In 2018, Cebu Pacific flew 20.3 million passengers on over 2,130 weekly flights across 37 domestic and 26 international destinations.

Available since 19th February, the new collection offered in Business Class promises sleep as comfortable as your home, only above the clouds.

Produced with the successful collaboration between Turkish Airlines and Zorlu Tekstil while carrying the signature of expert designers, the collection aims to offer a healthier and higher quality sleep environment.

Combining elegant lines with comfort, all of the new set’s pieces are developed considering the expectations of passengers who want to enjoy a relaxing sleep to finish their flights in a happy and fit state. The design of the collection reflects Turkish Airline’s “Flow” philosophy that represents the airlines’ dynamic brand identity and continuous service concept. Our passengers will now experience the quality improvement, brought by these innovations, in their sleep with our ‘Flow Sleeping Set’. • Benoy completes design work of Jewel Changi

Benoy completes design work of Jewel Changi

International architecture and design firm Benoy has completed work on the interiors for Singapore’s new airport shopping centre, Jewel Changi.

Opening its doors on April 17, the new 137,000sqm space connects three of Changi Airport’s current four terminals, making it easily accessible to the public and passengers. With more than 65 million passengers passing through Changi Airport last year, Jewel is designed to establish a new airport typology as a destination promoting community, commerce and entertainment.

“We are incredibly proud of the work we have done for Jewel,” said Benoy director and head of Singapore studio Terence Seah. “We’ve created a dynamic environment that becomes a unique place for travellers and residents alike. This addresses the important question of place making in the aviation context.

“In the process too, Jewel has enhanced the Changi experience. We are confident that other cities will be inspired to rethink the future of airports.”

Benoy has drawn its capacities in retail, mixed-use, hospitality and leisure to deliver an experience-led destination for the city, offering a renewed sense of place for locals and visitors in connecting the city to the airport. The interiors navigate the many interfaces between aviation facilities and the retail centre.

Celebrating the natural light offered by the forest valley at Jewel’s core, the retail design enables visitors to experience the vastness of the open space and the intimacy of nature throughout their elliptical journey of the building, reinterpreting the traditional sense of the commercial space.

The expanded Terminal 1 also offers new pedestrian linkages to other terminals and the MRT via Jewel, improving connectivity and accessibility for all.

Liquid Group partners Changi Airport to roll out world’s first integrated QR Platform

Liquid Group is pleased to announce today that it has entered into an agreement with Changi Airport Group to roll out the integrated acceptance of multiple major QR payment apps by merchants located across all four terminals at Changi Airport.

The integrated payment platform by Liquid Group will allow retailers at Changi Airport to accept e-wallets such as GrabPay, Liquid Pay, Singtel Dash, Ezi Wallet and PayNow QR bank payment apps, as well as international payment app partners such as WeChat Pay, UnionPay and Alipay.

Liquid Group’s payment platform will roll out a unified point-of-sales (POS) for QR payments that enable merchants to accept multiple local and international QR payment apps using a single device. Furthermore, with a standardized merchant workflow, participating Changi Airport retailers can accept multiple QR payment apps without additional infrastructure, integration or cashier training when Liquid Group and Changi Airport expand the network to include additional local, overseas and card scheme QR payment apps.

The platform also enables Changi Airport to launch multiple marketing campaigns with participating payment apps without the need for additional cashier training or verification during checkout.  This provides for a frictionless user experience.

“Changi Airport strives to continually enhance our passenger’s shopping experience. With the rise in QR payments, launching Liquid Group’s unified QR payment platform not only provides a frictionless payment experience, it will also provide more partnership opportunities with local and overseas e-wallet issuers. In addition, the unified QR payment platform will improve our tenant’s productivity in the areas of staff training, reporting and settlement for QR payments. We are pleased to partner Liquid Group to introduce this convenient payment option at Changi Airport.” – Ms Teo Chew Hoon, Group Senior Vice President at Changi Airport Group

“Alipay welcomes this initiative and looks forward to further improving the user experience for our consumers at Changi Airport.” – Ms Cherry Huang, General Manager, Alipay South & South East Asia

“At Grab, we are about providing real choices and more convenience to our customers. As travel gets bigger in Southeast Asia, we are pleased to have GrabPay accepted at all merchants in Changi Airport. Our users from across the region who are already using GrabPay to pay for their transport, food and other daily needs, can now enjoy the same seamless payment experience at the airport and have more opportunities to accumulate GrabRewards points for perks and benefits.” – Mr Gary Wong, Head of GrabPay Singapore

Changi is the world’s seventh busiest airport for international traffic with over 65 million passenger movements. With the rapid proliferation of QR mobile payment apps across ASEAN, North Asia and South Asia, Liquid Group’s payment platform will enable Changi Airport to spearhead the seamless acceptance of such apps and offer deals to shoppers from different countries.  Retailers and consumers can look forward to an exciting and innovative e-payment journey ahead at Changi Airport.

This is also in line with the Government’s Smart Nation objective to provide an open, accessible and interoperable national e-payment infrastructure, as well as the adoption of SGQR as the single, standardised QR code for e-payments in Singapore.

“As one of the world’s leading airports, WeChat Pay is both excited and proud to be part of Changi Airport’s efforts to enhance its merchants’ payment experience. We believe this initiative will help Changi’s merchants gain greater access to the billion users that are active on the WeChat platform” – Team of WeChat Pay, Southeast Asia

“We’re excited to have Dash accepted at the many merchants in Changi Airport, bringing even more dining and retail choices to our customers. This is an especially perfect fit for us, as we continue to expand our VIA cross-border mobile payment alliance and connect more merchants to travellers. Overseas customers that are part of VIA would be able to enjoy the ease, familiarity and convenience of using their local wallets at Changi Airport, greatly enhancing their retail experience.” – Mr Gilbert Chuah, Head of mCommerce at Singtel

“The use of QR Code for payments is gaining momentum in Singapore and all across Asia. According to The Future of Payments Study conducted by UnionPay International and Nielsen last year, QR was the most widely-adopted mobile payment method among Singapore consumers, with two-thirds of Singaporeans having used it at least once in the past three months. Our vision is to expand this network across the region and create a cross-border platform to facilitate large-scale QR payment transactions and accelerate the adoption of QR payment apps.”

The SPC Group is a 74-year-old food company with 51 subsidiaries and 35 brands around the world including USA, France, China and Singapore. In 2016, SPC Group launched the first Shake Shack in Korea and is currently operating 8 Shake Shack restaurants across Seoul.

Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers (no hormones or antibiotics – ever), griddled flat-top beef hotdogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. A fun and lively community gathering place with widespread appeal, Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following around the world. In its fifteen-year history, Shake Shack has been recognized with countless accolades, including Bon Appétit’s “The 20 Most Important Restaurants in America” (ranked #16), TIME Magazine’s “17 Most Influential Burgers of All Time” (ranked #7 for the ShackBurger) and winning “Best Burger” in 2007 and 2014 at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival’s Burger Bash.

After three summers of fans lining up daily for the cart, Shake Shack opened a permanent kiosk in the park, and Shake Shack was officially born. An instant neighbourhood fixture, Shake Shack welcomed people from all over the city, country and world who gathered together to enjoy fresh, simple, high quality versions of the classics in a majestic setting.

Fine dining roots are a unique part of Shake Shack’s beginnings. That fine dining heritage remains a core tenant of Shake Shack today – from its premium ingredients to its sourcing practices to the acclaimed chefs Shake Shack collaborates with around the world like Dominique Ansel, Missy Robbins, Rosio Sanchez, Chef Zaiyu Hasegawa, Daniel Boulud, David Chang, and more. Shake Shack sources only high quality, premium ingredients from the best ranchers, farmers, bakers and food purveyors.

The fries are crinkle cut with zero artificial ingredients and the vanilla and chocolate frozen custards use only real sugar, no corn syrup, and milk from dairy farmers who pledge not to use artificial growth hormones. Shake Shack’s fine dining heritage and commitment to community building, hospitality and the sourcing of premium ingredients have helped pioneer a new “fine casual” restaurant category. Fine Casual couples the ease, value and convenience of fast casual with the high standards of excellence grounded in fine dining heritage: thoughtful ingredient sourcing and preparation, hospitality and quality. As a pioneer in this new category, Shake Shack strives to maintain the culinary traditions of the classic American burger stand, while providing guests with a menu of inspired food and drinks, made with carefully sourced and quality ingredients, and always cooked to order

  • King Power monopoly ending at Bangkok’s airport

King Power monopoly ending at Bangkok’s airport

Thailand’s much-maligned airport duty-free monopoly appears set to be nearing an end.

For years, major Thai retailers have complained that incumbent operator King Power has controlled the retail offer – and prices – at Thailand’s largest airports, especially Suvarnabhumi outside Bangkok. Frequent travellers often comment that airport ‘duty-free’ prices are higher than at other airports in the region, including Singapore and Hong Kong.

On Wednesday, state-owned Airports of Thailand (AOT) approved guidelines for concessions for duty-free and commercial activities at its airports, the first step in opening up retail spaces to other companies.

According to Reuters, AOT will offer three retail licences at an upcoming auction, clearing the way for Thai retail giants Central Group and The Mall Group, along with South Korea’s Hotel Shilla, to enter the fray.

King Power’s current licence ends next year.

AOT says contracts will cover duty-free retail, commercial businesses such as food and beverage outlets and pick-up counters for shoppers who buy goods in town and collect them at the airport after clearing customs and immigration.
