  • Vietnam to cap coal exports at two mln tons in 2022

Vietnam to cap coal exports at two mln tons in 2022

Vietnam will cap its coal exports at 2.03 million tons this year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
That represents a 22.5 percent increase from last year’s 1.55 million tons. But Vietnam also imported a lot of coal and its net exports were 50,000 tons.

The ministry said coal exporters must first ensure there is adequate supply for domestic use.

There are two coal exporters, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group and Dong Bac Corporation, both state-owned.

On the global market, coal prices reached a 14-year high of US$401 per ton Wednesday, driven by the effect of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on supply.

  • TWG holding V3 Group to launch Hong Kong IPO

TWG holding V3 Group to launch Hong Kong IPO

V3 Group, which owns brands such as Osim and TWG Tea, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) on the main board of Hong Kong’s stock exchange.

V3 Brands Asia, an investment holding company wholly owned by V3 Group – made an application to the Hong Kong Exchange for a global offering on Monday (Feb 28).

The application proof redacted pricing details, the size of the offering, and the number of shares up for grabs.

Osim listed on the Singapore Exchange in 2000, but delisted in 2016 when its founder, Mr Ron Sim, took the company private.

Mr Sim lamented then that the stock had not been fairly valued due to a lack of financial depth and liquidity in the Singapore market.

In 2018, he shelved plans for V3’s Hong Kong listing, letting its application lapse, amid intense volatility and weakness in the global stock market.

Monday’s application to the Hong Kong bourse comes after the lifestyle products group posted a surge in profit for the nine months ended Sept 30 last year. Profit after tax for the period stood at $72.7 million, 2.5 times the $28.7 million recorded in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 32.8 percent to $332.8 million, from $250.6 million previously.

For the full year ended Dec 31, 2020, revenue was 15.6 percent higher year on year at $377.8 million, from $326.9 million in the financial year 2019. Profit after tax stood at $43.4 million, 58.9 percent higher than $27.3 million in the year-ago period.

V3’s higher revenue during the two years ended Dec 31, 2020, and nine months ended Sept 30, 2021, was attributed to higher sales due to increased consumer demand for lifestyle and wellness products, targeted marketing and sales activities, and the success of blockbuster products.

V3 owns the Osim brand, known for its massage chairs and relaxation products, luxury tea brand TWG Tea, nutritional supplement retailer ONI Global and Futuristic – a Singapore-headquartered manufacturer of store fixtures.

Mr Sim opened his first store in Singapore in 1983 and later in Hong Kong in 1986. The company also expanded to Taiwan and Malaysia before officially launching the Osim brand name in 1993 and entering China.

  • Amazon to close physical bookstores

    Amazon to close physical bookstores

Amazon is closing most of its physical stores, the company announced today, with all 68 of its Amazon Books, Amazon 4-Star, and Amazon Pop Up locations across the US and the UK set to close while the company refocuses on its grocery and fashion stores.

Amazon Books was one of the primarily online storefront’s first physical retail experiences when the first location opened in Seattle in 2015. Amazon has since expanded to 24 bookstores across the US, all of which are now slated to be closed down.

The company would go on to expand its retail efforts with Amazon 4-Star in 2018, with a more generally focused store that sold products with a four-star or higher rating curated from Amazon’s digital storefront, along with — of course — Amazon’s own first-party products (including Echo, Kindle, and Fire TV devices).

Amazon Pop Up stores, on the other hand, were smaller, more focused mall experiences that offered to rotate themed products (March is a printer collaboration with Brother, for example).

All of Amazon’s retail locations, however, helped serve as a physical contact point to return Amazon products, in addition to offering lower prices and perks to Amazon Prime subscribers.

The news isn’t entirely shocking: Amazon’s retail ambitions have largely felt like small-scale trials compared to the massive scale of its online operations. And, the company’s physical locations have performed far worse than its digital storefront in recent years.

Amazon isn’t exiting brick-and-mortar stores entirely. The company will continue to operate its Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods grocery stores, as well as its Amazon Go convenience stores. Amazon’s experimental “Amazon Style” clothing store is also sticking around, too.

Amazon has yet to say when exactly it’ll be closing up its physical shops, although Reuters reports that timing will vary from store to store.

  • HTC shares details about first flagship phone in more than 3 years

HTC shares details about first flagship phone in more than 3 years

Around a decade back, HTC was one of the biggest smartphone makers in the world but has almost sunk into oblivion in recent times. The company never announced a retreat from the market, and even though it scaled back operations after selling a chunk of its business to Google in 2018, it still quietly sells affordable phones in select markets. The Taiwanese manufacturer has now revealed plans to release a flagship smartphone in April.

Vice President of HTC’s Asia-Pacific Region, Charles Huang said during the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) that the company will introduce a high-end smartphone next month.

The company last released a flagship smartphone, the Exodus 1, in 2018. It was a blockchain-focused handset and was powered by Qualcomm’s premium Snapdragon 845 chip. HTC, which was the first to make both an Android device and a Windows Mobile handset, has been in the red since 2015 and has shifted focus to virtual reality headsets and accessories.

During MWC, the company announced Viverse, which is its version of the metaverse and will make use of the in-house Vive VR headsets. It comes as no surprise that HTC is planning on integrating some metaverse features into the phone. It looks like the company wants to target consumers who would like to use their phone for augmented reality and virtual reality applications.

Other details are still under wraps, but more information will likely be coming soon. Whether it will help HTC turn things around and give a tough time to the best phones of 2022 remains to be seen.

  • First cargo airline gets aviation authority green light

First cargo airline gets aviation authority green light

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has recommended that the Ministry of Transport should issue an air transport license to Vietnam’s first proposed cargo carrier, IPP Air Cargo.

It said the airline meets all requirements, including 100 percent funded ownership by Vietnamese entities.

IPP Air Cargo has a charter capital of VND300 billion ($13.13 million), with Imex Pan Pacific Group holding a 70-percent stake and the family of Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, the company chairman, the rest.

Nguyen had mooted the establishment of the airline last year, but the CAAV said it was not considering applications amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

With Vietnam now resuming international flights, IPP Air Cargo is set to become its first full-fledged cargo airline.

After the air transport license, the company has to get other permits to fly, including the aircraft operator certificate.

IPP Air Cargo plans to start with five freighters (Boeing 737 or 777 or equivalent) and double the number in the fifth year.

It targets revenues of $71 million in the first year of operation.

  • Vietnam gold prices surge to new peak

Vietnam gold prices surge to new peak

Vietnam gold prices rose to another new peak Wednesday, continuing its climbing trend in recent weeks as the Russia-Ukraine tension remains high.

The state-owned Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) sold its gold at VND67.4 million ($2,951.61) per tael Wednesday, up 1.35 percent from Tuesday. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Phu Nhuan Jewelry raised its gold up by 1.05 percent also to VND67.4 million.

Global rates slipped marginally to $1,941.46 per ounce Wednesday from the one-year high Tuesday as investors continued to seek the safe-haven assets as U.S. and Europe put more sanctions on Russia for attacking Ukraine.

Vietnam was Southeast Asia’s largest gold bullion and coin market last year and among the top 10 globally.

The demand in the country exceeded 31.1 metric tons compared to 28.7 tons in Thailand and 19.8 tons in Indonesia, according to the World Gold Council.

Gold continued to be the top asset class for 72 percent of Vietnamese investors, the WGC said citing a study of 2,000 investors last year.

  • Airlines resume hiring as they embark on recovery

Airlines resume hiring as they embark on recovery

Bamboo Airways, Vietjet and Vietravel Airlines have started hiring again after an extended recruitment freeze due to Covid-19. Bamboo Airways has posted hiring announcements for many positions, including pilots, flight engineers and cabin crew aid plans to expand its fleet and destinations.

The airline is offering captains a monthly salary of US$13,300 for flying wide-body Boeing 787s and $10,450 for narrow-body Airbus and Embraer jets, which are higher than pre-pandemic levels. Nguyen Ngoc Trong, its deputy general director, said the carrier is seeking permission to expand its 30-strong fleet by five to 10 aircraft each year.

It operated at maximum capacity during the nine-day Tet, or Lunar New Year, holidays in early this month, and plans to launch new services to the US and Europe in the second quarter of this year, he added.

Budget airlines Vietjet has also posted notices seeking captains and co-pilots for Airbus A320Fs and A330s.

Vietravel Airlines is hiring pilots for its Airbus A320/A321 fleet as well as cabin crew.

Representatives of Vietravel Airlines said the recruitment is to “ready for the expansion of the fleet” and “launch new routes to northeast and southeast Asian nations in the third quarter.”

But human resources could be scarce this year as airlines resume hiring after their Covid-19 woes, they added.

Vietnam has resumed commercial flights to 20 of 28 countries and territories that it operated direct flights to before the pandemic.

The country also ended all restrictions on international flights on Feb. 15.

From March 15, Vietnam will reopen inbound and outbound tourism under new normal conditions, with foreign tourists allowed to visit the country without booking tour packages.

In the best case scenario, Vietnam’s aviation industry would transport 42-43 million passengers in 2022, or around 50 percent of pre-pandemic numbers, Bui Minh Dang, deputy head of the air transportation department at the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said.

  • UBS Bankers in Spain Jumping Ship

UBS Bankers in Spain Jumping Ship

UBS sees bankers and managers depart from its Spanish unit prior to its sale to a local competitor. A decision by UBS last year to sell its Spanish unit to Singular bank appears to have led to an exodus of at least eight private bankers and managers, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

Two of the departing bankers are said to handle very wealthy clients, while another investment manager with over 16 years experience is joining them.

The departures add to those who left since UBS announced the sale in October. They include Jose Maria Abril Taboada, who joined Spain’s Bankinter in February, and Jose Maria Gil de Santivanes who in January left for Credit Suisse, the report adds.

UBS’s European bank led by manager Christine Novakovic, is selling its Spanish branch to Singular Bank, which specializes in digital solutions. Investment banking and fund sales activities in the country are not part of the sale, however.

The sale, which is expected to be concluded in the third quarter of this year, was to include all client assets and the UBS team in Madrid. In that respect, some new calculations might be due.

  • If you receive a Facebook email for enabling Facebook Protect, don’t worry

If you receive a Facebook email for enabling Facebook Protect, don’t worry

If you receive an email or have recently received an email from Facebook telling you to enable Facebook Protect, or you will be locked out of your account, don’t worry. The email is indeed from Facebook, and it isn’t a phishing attempt, as many have thought. Facebook recently began sending such emails to some of its users. Facebook Protect is an additional level of security for higher-risk accounts like journalists and activists, and is currently available only for some users.

In the email you received or may receive, Facebook requires you to activate Facebook Protect before/by March 17, 2022. Facebook further explains that it wants you to enable Facebook Protect because your account ‘has the potential to reach a lot more people than an average Facebook user,’ and, because of that, you might become a target for hackers. As the email says, “Hackers are often motivated to attack accounts that have a lot of followers, run important Pages, or hold some community significance.”

Because many people thought that the Facebook Protect emails were phishing attempts, Nathaniel Gleicher, Meta’s head of security policy, confirmed in a tweet that the emails were indeed coming from Facebook. He said, “Confirming that it’s an enrollment notice from us.”

As to why Facebook sends emails that make you enable Facebook Protect, Gleicher stated, “Because this is mandatory for highly targeted users like journalists, activists, etc., we’re also sending notices off-platform to the people who may not use the platform as often so they don’t miss the notice and lose access to Facebook.”

The Facebook emails contain a link that, when clicked, takes you to the Facebook Protect setting. But, although it has been confirmed that these emails are coming from Facebook, you may not want to click on any links, just for safe measure. If you’ve received such an e-mail, you can go to the Facebook app and then go to Settings & Privacy. After that, click Settings and go to the settings within Facebook “Settings & Privacy,” then click “Settings,” and after that, “Security and Login.” Find Facebook Protect and click “Next,” and follow the on-screen instructions until the process is completed.

  • The next Apple event is set for March 8, and the first 5G iPhone SE is expected

The next Apple event is set for March 8, and the first 5G iPhone SE is expected

It’s finally happening, ladies and gents, and although invitations didn’t go out quite as early as some may have expected, the next Apple event is indeed taking place when Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted it would almost a month ago.

If you like affordable iPhones and mid-sized iPads with non-Pro specifications, you might want to circle March 8 in your calendars… or simply bookmark and set a reminder for the YouTube live stream embedded below.

Naturally, this (not so) mysterious “special Apple Event” will be broadcast in real-time starting at 10 a.m. PST next Tuesday, allowing the entire world to tune in and check out the first live demonstrations of the 5G-enabled iPhone SE 3 and fifth-gen iPad Air.

If you’re the least bit familiar with how the Cupertino-based tech giant operates ahead of these shindigs, you won’t be shocked to hear that those two devices haven’t been confirmed, teased at, or alluded to in any official capacity yet.

You should also not expect any revealing or exciting buzz-building material between today and March 8. Then again, there’s certainly plenty of (unofficial) buzz surrounding the iPhone SE (2022) anyway. This has been long and widely expected to add 5G speeds to an already hugely popular budget-friendly equation including a lot of raw power and a terribly outdated design.

Unfortunately, that latter part is pretty much etched in stone after the latest reports from a number of trustworthy sources, insiders, and publications no matter how badly you want to believe in the accuracy of those sketchy renders leaked back in January.

Instead of going down the notch path this year, it looks like Apple will opt to keep the iPhone 8 memory alive with yet another set of massive bezels surrounding a tiny (by 2022 standards) 4.7-inch screen. The good news is that might allow the company to also keep the $399 base price unchanged despite the aforementioned 5G upgrade and a predictable but more than welcome bump from A13 Bionic to A15 Bionic “peek performance.”

Curiously enough, Apple’s next big tablet has yet to show its face (or rear, or sides) in any renders or prematurely revealed real-life photographs. That can only mean one thing, and it’s actually the thing that also explains the absence of (legit) visual iPhone SE 3 leaks.

That’s right, we fully expect the iPad Air (2022) to look virtually identical to its 2020 predecessor on the outside while hiding a hot new Apple A15 Bionic chip and (optional) 5G modem under its undoubtedly premium aluminum hood.

Obviously, the 5G-capable fifth-gen iPad Air won’t come cheap, as suggested by the $649 and up iPad mini (2021) with next-gen cellular connectivity on deck. That thing is 150 bucks costlier than its entry-level Wi-Fi-only counterpart, which probably means the first-ever 5G iPad Air will also start at $150 more than a non-cellular-enabled variant likely to fetch around $600.

At $750 or so, the 5G iPad Air 5 would be just 50 bucks pricier than a Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab S8, which sounds like a battle Samsung can never in a million years win. Of course, the 10.9-inch iPad Air (2022) is likely to start at 64 rather than 128 gigs of internal storage space, with no microSD card slot in tow… or complimentary stylus.

Like the sixth-gen 8.3-inch iPad mini, this bad boy could rock a 12MP front-facing camera with Center Stage functionality, and like its 10.9-inch forerunner, the fifth-gen iPad Air will probably rely on a top-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric recognition instead of joining the iPad Pro (2021) duo in the hip Face ID club.

  • Why You Should Read Online Casino Reviews

Why You Should Read Online Casino Reviews

You should research online casino reviews before deciding whether or not to bet online. If you’re new to online gambling, the stakes may be a little greater. But let’s say this is your first time playing a casino online game on your home computer. In such instances, you should rely on folks who have been there and done that, especially if they know what they’re talking about.

Online casino reviews are a terrific approach to learn about the terms and concerns of a new online casino in Thailand. It will also assist you in determining if it is worthwhile to gamble with a casino online that you have never heard of before, even if the reviews are positive.

    Customer Service

Online casino at TopCasinos777.com evaluations frequently reveal whether or not the customer service is as fantastic as they claim. You can’t afford to squander your time on a website with poor customer service. Some people spend as much time and energy online gambling as they do at their careers, and they can’t afford to waste too much of it dealing with difficulties like these.

The reviews will inform you how effective its customer service is, which is critical for any casino. It demonstrates how well they reply to emails, phone calls, and other messages from gamers. Simply put, it is an important aspect of the whole online gambling experience for gamers.

    Player-Friendliness and Security

You may also come across online casino reviews that indicate whether or not their sites are user-friendly. You must be able to trust a site, and it must make you feel secure while you are on it. Reviews will inform you whether or not it is a good site for you.

It should also be simple to operate. There are several things that might go wrong when you first begin using a website, and it must function properly from the start. Before you start gambling online, be sure to perform a malware scan on your computer. This assists in resolving issues that may emerge when playing real money online casino games.

Reviews should also say something about the site’s legality. For example, Thailand’s online casino scene is in hot water right now as the country’s strict laws on physical gambling, which is quite vague on the online ones.

    Software and Software Providers

More and more online casinos are switching to software that is well-known in the business. It takes more than a few individuals to create a decent online casino; there is also a lot of labor involved in everything that happens with each site. You should talk to software vendors and find out what they have to say about the sites they deal with.

You want to ensure that you receive the best possible gameplay. It’s one thing to be able to have fun, but a decent online casino should feature cutting-edge software.

    Reviews From Other Players

Another advantage of reading reviews is getting input from other gamers. These individuals share their knowledge of the casino and how effectively it functions with other gamers and gamblers. They will offer you a solid indication of what you may expect from particular online casinos. It also informs you of similar worries shared by other gamers.

Examine some of the greatest online casino reviews to determine whether they agree with the facts you discovered on your own. Keep in mind that this is just as essential as any other element to consider when deciding whether or not to play.

    Random Number Generators

Online casino reviews in Asia can also help you learn about the random number generators used by casinos, which will allow you to increase your odds of winning. This is especially significant for big rollers who want to achieve a lifetime gambling record with a single game. If the casino’s RNGs are down, it’s likely that this is your last opportunity to win.

RNGs employ software that ensures you never acquire the same winning combinations twice in a row. This is especially helpful for those who don’t have a lot of free time. If you have the same lucky streak as the previous time, you may be more tempted to start betting higher and higher.

  • Coding For Kids: The Ultimate Guide For Parents

Coding For Kids: The Ultimate Guide For Parents

Most children these days love computers and electronic gadgets. It wouldn’t be a surprise if coding (or computer programming) for kids would come in naturally as an interest or as a passion for them.

Society has become more productive because of technology and it is but expected that coding for kids Singapore would be a perfect base for your children to learn this advanced skill and way of thinking which will equip them professionally for a lifetime.

Most parents (who are themselves computer literate) have this hidden desire for their kids to be passionate about coding. In recent surveys, 90 percent of parents in the USA would want coding to be a part of the general school curriculum.

Most parents of a generation ago have had this idea of devoting a life to computers which were just in their infancy but their own parents rejected the idea because they didn’t see that the programming revolution would take over the world.

Now it’s their chance to see this desire passed down to their own kids.

When your youngsters start to learn code at a very early age, you are setting them up to a life of professional and financial stability. As online learning becomes more the norm, almost all kids are amenable to the idea of learning coding through online classes after their traditional school hours or during weekends.

Get ready because we are going to discuss why coding as part of your children’s computer literacy is so vital for them as they create lives of their own as they grow up.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CODING?

If you think that coding would prepare your kids well for their future, you should understand it deeply.

The other name for coding is programming. It is an elaborate process with both opportunities for creativity and routine to work hand in hand. The computer programmer, in this case, your kid, tells the computer to execute a specific task by writing workable scripts with the use of programming languages like Python or Java. In the future, expect more programming languages to be created and make your kid more excited to learn.

Your child will give the computer instructions through a specific language which the computer understands. The computer then works on carrying out the command.

There are a lot of possibilities with coding. Your kid can create games, websites, apps, software and even interactive digital content. It is an endless realm of potential which will come from the hearts and minds of your incredible kids! That’s why, if your child loves digital games and mind twisting games, it will be no problem to transform them into coders.

IS CODING BENEFICIAL FOR YOUR KIDS?

Definitely. Their minds are still malleable and open to be filled up, like a sponge. When they are exposed to the rudiments of coding at ages as early as 5, they have the advantage to critically evaluate for themselves scenarios, choose from different options, and create surprisingly effective solutions.

Best of all, they learn to undergo failure and then attempt repeatedly until they can create coding that is productive and usable. In effect, they experience the trial and error process of getting up every they fall down (in this case, when their coding process is erroneous, they simply have to try again).

When they’re very young when they start, especially at Maker Kids Camp in Singapore, the easier it will be for them to master the coding skill, no matter what new languages in the future come their way.

AT WHAT AGE CAN YOUR KIDS START LEARNING TO CODE?

Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget concluded that when children teach the age of 5 which is the preoperational stage, they begin to understand the world through mental symbols like words and pictures.

If we stand by this theory, kids can learn coding by the time they are 5.

Coding basics at the Makers Kids Camp in Singapore are simplified and even explained through games so that these young kids can understand the foundations of coding.

CODING MAKES KIDS THINK LOGICALLY AND CRITICALLY

There have been several studies that discovered the positive connection between coding and cognitive skills. Kids who have learned or acquired computer programming skills scored higher on cognitive ability exams than those who have little or zero coding experience.

KIDS LEARN A SKILL CALLED DECOMPOSITION

Decomposition is a process wherein the children are taught how to break down complicated problems into smaller and better to manage chunks so that they can write functional scripts. Kids will find this skill applicable when they confront hard to comprehend situations in the world.

    THE YOUTH LEARN PROBLEM SOLVING

When they code, a problem is identified, then analyzed, created a workable solution. Then the said solution is tested and retested and revised until the problem is solved.

In technical terms, the kids write, rewrite, troubleshoot, debug lines and lines of code until they get the program working right and productively.

CODING ENHANCES BOTH CREATIVITY AND FOCUS

Coding has a reputation of being a routine activity and not aligned with creativity because it is methodical and process oriented.

But that is far from the truth and true blooded programmers can attest to that. This is especially true when the kids create programs from scratch.

Think about it. How else could kids create new digital games, apps, animation, websites and more if they don’t have innate creative skills which could be nurtured through coding?

They are made to write down lines of codes or snap together blocks (note: block coding is an alternative form of coding for kids), but the actual idea came from depths of their imagination.

But parallel to execution of their imagination, coding requires rigid focus so that all the details of the program are not neglected and infused directly so that the end result will be perfect.

When kids acquire experiences from the real world or from other digital concepts, they piece them all together and unify them through the coding skills that they will learn from Maker Kids Camp in Singapore. The result is a new app, a brand new video game or an exciting animation – all unique results from the coding which the kids will work on. They make hypothetical ideas into workable coding masterpieces.

CODING IS AN ALTERNATIVE OUTLET FOR THEIR UNIQUENESS.

To express themselves, some kids paint, sketch, sing, draw, play a musical instrument, build things or indulge in sports.

But some children excel in coding which can enable them to create digital and physical (like robots) products which express their own unique personality.

EXAMPLE OF THE CHALLENGES OF CODING TO THE KIDS

Let’s say for example your kids will be developing a video game. They are required to write code that will make their character do all kinds of movements.

Walk forward, go backward, move from side to side, jump or crouch. The kids also need to write code so that the character can interact with the digital environment. Plus also code for the possible outcomes from that interaction. For examine, when the character drops an object or when the character bumps into a wall, etc.

There is a lot of thinking involved. So, if the children don’t have the patience to analyze it through or to organize their thoughts, they may end up coding in fillers or bugs into their scripts.

YOU CAN LEARN CODING WITH YOUR KIDS

To make your kids feel secure, you can accompany them to the Maker Kids Camp for Coding.

It will be a new learning experience for you too! Even though the children will want to feel that they are all grown up and independent, they will still always crawl up to you when they feel any insecurity.

Most kids would prefer that you spend time with them in this challenging and fun endeavor. Coding would seem less daunting and less intimidating when they see in the premises people they trust like you.

CODING IS A WORTHY INVESTMENT INTO YOUR KIDS’ FUTURE

Even if your kids will not become professional computer programmers eventually, coding will still be a skill that is much valued in all kinds of industries. This is because, each sector will continue and will heavily rely on the internet and technology for their continue growth and your kids’ coding background will come in handy.

  • AirAsia partners with Avolon to create ride sharing platform in Southeast Asia

AirAsia partners with Avolon to create ride sharing platform in Southeast Asia

AirAsia has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to lease a minimum of 100 VX4 eVTOL aircraft from Avolon. The eVTOL aircraft is expected to enable AirAsia to further revolutionize air travel by providing advanced air mobility to a whole new range of passengers.

In addition to the eVTOL aircraft, Avolon, through its investment and innovation affiliate Avolon-e, will partner with AirAsia to commercialize zero-emissions eVTOL aircraft and develop an industry-leading urban air mobility (UAM) platform in Southeast Asia. Avolon and AirAsia will form a working group to pursue local certification, research potential market opportunities and infrastructure requirements for UAM. AirAsia will also leverage its successful travel and lifestyle mobile app, the AirAsia Super App, to help support and build an eVTOL ride-sharing platform with Avolon.

Tony Fernandes, CEO, Capital A, formerly AirAsia Group, commented: “Innovation has always been in our DNA and using technology to look at more efficient and sustainable ways of doing things is a core focus across Capital A (formerly AirAsia Group). We are now much more than just an airline with over 20 products and services on our super app leveraging off each other including flights, hotels, food, retail, delivery, ride-hailing and more. I am truly excited about this partnership between Avolon and AirAsia and the potential for zero-emissions ultra-short-haul air travel in Southeast Asia. The digital era is now. In the VX4, we have identified what we believe will be the eVTOL aircraft of choice and we are thrilled to be the launch airline for the aircraft in Southeast Asia. We are also delighted to extend our long-standing relationship with Avolon, which has a proven track record of delivering for its customers and is in sync with our goal to become the leading one-stop travel and delivery platform in Asean.”

Dómhnal Slattery, CEO, Avolon, added: “Tony Fernandes is an aviation pioneer who has built AirAsia into one of the leading airlines in the world and has now also created Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing Super App anchored on travel. We are delighted to partner with AirAsia and share our vision of revolutionizing the future of air travel. We look forward to working with Tony, and the AirAsia team, on their eVTOL journey. Together we will develop a ride-sharing platform and bring the zero-emissions VX4 aircraft into service, positioning AirAsia as the operator of choice for sustainable air travel in the region.”

In June 2021, Avolon ordered 500 VX4 eVTOL aircraft from Vertical Aerospace, valued at US $2 billion. Since announcing that order, Avolon placed 250 VX4 aircraft with Gol and Grupo Comporte in Brazil, up to 100 aircraft with Japan Airlines in Japan, and a minimum of 100 aircraft with AirAsia. As a result, Avolon has now placed up to 90% of its initial order book, underlining the demand for VX4 aircraft from the world’s leading airlines.

  • Safari on iPhone and iPad might soon get much needed quality of life improvements

Safari on iPhone and iPad might soon get much needed quality of life improvements

Who doesn’t love a well-made Dark Mode on their screen? But let’s be honest, not all websites have a decent one and what do we normally do in that case? Well, one option is to use your device’s internal Dark Mode feature.

On iPhones and iPads, as with other phones and tablets, whichever of the two modes you choose is applied to all of the systems, apps, and therefore—websites.

More specifically, the report states that new code was found inside WebKit, the browser engine powering Safari, indicating the app might soon get support for per-website Dark Mode. In other words, no matter the color scheme of a website or your device, you will be able to control in which of the modes (Light and Dark) said website appears.

What’s more, an equally, if not even more useful feature has also been found inside the new code. Apparently, Apple is also working on a way to give users the ability to block modal pop-ups for specific websites. These pop-ups are usually disguised as system alerts with the aim to trick you into tapping on them.

If it really comes to fruition, being able to block these pop-ups would serve as a welcome boost in security while browsing through Safari. In addition to that, Apple is also seemingly preparing a new API for managing “Cookie Consent.”

All of the features mentioned above, however, have not been commented on officially by Apple in any way. For now, they have a “to be announced” status in the WebKit code. That said, Apple’s Spring Event is probably nearing, with WWDC following after, so it shouldn’t be too long for us to find out. There is some probability that the tech giant is saving those for the release of iOS 16.
